How would you use Pantone’s Color of the Year 2014, Radiant Orchid, in a living space?
Radiant Orchid is a charmingly bold color that can add excitement to any room. When adding a color like this in a living space, the key is to not over use it. Small accent pieces such as pillows or a tray is all you need to brighten up the room. And if you’re too scared of colored accessories, you can always just use a bouquet of flowers or some orchids!
What’s one cool new trend you predict for 2014?
In 2014 we will be seeing more window sheers and light window linens. The days of heavy, overly droopy drapes are out and they will be replaced with drapes that will let in more light!
But for those who like to sleep in a dark room during the nights, a simple solution is to add blackout shades behind your window drapes. They are a great and very discrete way to have the best of both worlds!
If you had an unlimited budget, what is the first change you would make to your own home or personal space?
The first purchase I would make would be a bold chandelier for my dining room. In the past chandeliers were just used for lighting a room, but now they can be seen as art. Designers such as Frederik Molenschot, Jeff Zimmerman and Taher Chemirik have created pieces that exceed the basic design ideas of chandeliers. A bold and daring chandelier will make your dining room memorable!
What is the most difficult type of client to work with? What is your best advice for dealing with this type of client?
One of the biggest issues you can have with a client is indecisiveness. Clients that constantly change their mind make it very difficult to proceed with orders. However, a great way to help your client make decisions is to help them visualize objects in their space by various presentations containing all the components going into the room. If possible, taking the considerable elements on approval to see how they look and feel in space is a great way to have your client acquire the true sense for it. Many “to trade" dealers and showrooms provide that service.
