Haute Residence caught up with Kachko to discuss Key Biscayne and what to see if you're around for a weekend.

For those looking to visit Key Biscayne, can you tell us where it is?

Key Biscayne is an idyllic island community located just 15 minutes south of Miami and is comprised of a total area of 1.4 square miles. Being so close to the downtown of one of American’s most cosmopolitan cities, it comes as a surprise to many visitors that Key Biscayne has a unique identity that draws in tourists and the locals who call the village their home. Visitors can reach Key Biscayne by traveling via the Rickenbacker Causeway which is located just south of downtown Miami.

How long have you lived in the area?

I have been a resident of Key Biscayne for over 10 years now. It is the true sense of community and the quality of life that has led me to call it home for all these years. With such a short commute to work and an abundance of amenities located on the island itself, you really get the best of both worlds. You don’t have to settle for remote island life away from modern convenience or get lost in the hectic city life, Key Biscayne is a world of its own.

What do most people come to Key Biscayne for?

There is a lot to see and do in Key Biscayne. Most people are allured by the lifestyle, weather, and beaches. There truly is something for everyone. Most people who arrive in Key Biscayne are seeking an escape from the city without sacrificing convenience. Key Biscayne is a warm and welcoming community. The village is perfect for families for many reasons such as being virtually crime-free, community-centric and with lots of parks and attractions.

Do you have any favorite restaurants or activities?

If you are just looking for a relaxing weekend getaway, be sure to check out Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. Located at the southern tip of Key Biscayne, you can experience stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean from the top of the 200-year-old Cape Florida Lighthouse. If you are seeking something livelier, there are several eateries and nightlife spots along Crandon Boulevard. Seafood is one of the more popular choices for both locals and tourists with Rusty Pelican and El Gran Inka being my favorites.

Why do you think people prefer to visit Key Biscayne beaches compared to other surrounding beaches?

Every beach has a unique character that makes it special. The visitors who like to check out the beaches of Miami Beach are looking to be in the heart of the action. They love the vibrant culture that brings in millions of tourists each year. Key Biscayne, on the other hand, offers something much rarer. The peace and tranquility which surrounds the beaches of Key Biscayne are seldom found so close to an international tourist city. This is what makes Key Biscayne so distinctive. The clean and well-maintained surroundings make it much more inviting for families and those who want to enjoy life at a slower pace.
