Tom Cruise's Colorado Compound
Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise is now asking a cool $59 million for his 298-acre estate in Telluride.
The famed actor—best known for starring in blockbuster hits such as Top Gun and the Mission: Impossible film series—helped design the 10,000-square-foot, stone-and-cedar home, which was completed in 1994 and is located minutes away from one of the world's most famous ski resorts.
The property's main house has four bedrooms, a gym, a recreation room, and a library. The guesthouse also has an additional three bedrooms, meaning the estate has a total of seven bedrooms and nine full baths. Outside there's a sports court ideal for tennis, basketball, or ice hockey, along with a private trail system with access to—and views of—the 14,000-foot mountains looming in the distance. In addition, there's a private gate leading into the Uncompahgre National Forest, and a slew of hiking and riding trails that snake through the compound.
Golden Gate Views at $49 Million
Belvedere Island—one of the most exclusive and wealthiest residential areas in the San Francisco Bay Area—is peppered with beautiful, extravagant homes, most of which were built during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of the isle's grand estates is currently on the market for $49 million, after originally being listed for $65 million.
Built by C.O. Parry in 1895, the compound has undergone extensive restoration under its current owner, who has invested over $32 million—including $8 million on landscaping—to bring the estate back to its former glory.
Bronze gates designed by Hearst Castle architect Julia Morgan guard the entrance to the estate, while its porte-cochere—boasting 15-foot-high ceilings—leads into a foyer with a bronze balustraded staircase. The dining room has hand-glazed walls and mahogany wainscoting, while the great room showcases herringbone floors, alabaster pendant lamps, and coffered ceilings. The home's master suite features a spa tub, and mahogany doors and marble baths can be found throughout the residence's upper level. The property has 10,000 square feet of living space, including four bedrooms, six full baths (including one in the pool house), and three powder rooms. Accompanied by a one-bedroom, one-bath apartment and a two-car garage, the house features a veranda with Corinthian columns, bronze sconces, and teak decking.
Updated New York City Townhouse
Dating all the way back to 1765, Beekman Place—a mansion that temporarily housed British soldiers during the Revolutionary War, and was frequented by George Washington during his presidency—is certainly teeming with history.
Today, the brownstone stands as a nine-story, four-unit structure, after having undergone a redesign by architect Paul Rudolph and restoration by Jared Della Valle and Andrew Bernheimer. Each apartment features its own private terrace, which wraps around the entire width of the building and frames stunning views of the river. The lower residence is a spacious one-bedroom, two-bath apartment, while the second and third units are multi-level two-bedroom, two-bath homes. The award-winning penthouse—which touts 3,000 square feet of living space—is comprised of three bedrooms and three baths. To the east and south, grand multi-level entertaining areas are enveloped in floor-to-ceiling glass walls. The home—whose four levels feature cantilevered floors, mezzanines, bridges, floating stairs, steel I-beams, and pergolas—also has terraces on each floor overlooking both eastern and western exposures. Other features include a wood-burning fireplace and a large chef's kitchen equipped with a Gaggenau six-burner stove and two Subzero fridges.
Chianti Castello Reale
Sited on five acres in the Chianti region of Italy, Castello Reale sits on high ground, hovering over erstwhile Medieval battlegrounds.
Surrounded by polished formal gardens with olive orchards and vineyards, the 23,680-square-foot, Tuscan-style castle—currently priced at $11.82 million—was once a part of Castello di Panzano, a fortress erected during the 1300s to protect the town of Panzano from the wars between Florence and Siena. Today, it is a peaceful and lovely three-story residence comprised of seven bedrooms and eight baths, along with a grand living room and a large formal dining room that opens through French doors to a south-facing loggia overlooking the surrounding formal gardens and picturesque valley views. Outside, there is also a terraced swimming pool and tennis court.
The hilltop home is just minutes away by foot from the closest town, where a weekly market operates in the main square on Sundays.
Rye Mansion with Peninsula
Located in Rye—a distant suburb of New York City, poised on the Long Island Sound—this mansion sits on a historic 4.5-acre peninsula that once served as the landing spot for the Oyster Bay-Rye ferry. Comprised of six bedrooms and nine baths, the 10,441-square-foot home—presently on the market for $22 million—rests on a high elevation and comes with 1,100 feet of private shoreline as well as a two-sided dock complete with a large sunning platform.
Designed by acclaimed firm Shope Reno Wharton, the mansion's interior architecture features rustic stonework, imposing columns, domed and coffered ceilings, cherry and mahogany millwork, a barrel ceiling, and cove lighting. The home's family room has an open galley library, accessed by an antique French staircase. The formal dining area—which seats up to 30—is separated from a 4,000-bottle, temperature-controlled wine room by a glass wall. A finished walk-out on the lower level includes a recreation room with a fireplace, a fitness center, an indoor pool with skylights, a sauna, and a full bath.
