On the market for the first time since 1957, an extraordinary equestrian estate just outside of Los Angeles is asking $20.95 million, according to press materials.

Purchased in 1957 by Roy Ash, creator of the Environmental Protection Agency, the ranch residence has hosted many prominent guests, including former President Nixon.

It is located in Hidden Valley, an exclusive celebrity enclave containing about 40 properties, each with a minimum of 20 acres. David Murdock, Tom Selleck, and Jamie Foxx are current residents of the community, and Ellen Degeneres, Sophia Loren, Sylvester Stallone, and Robert Wagner are among celebrities who are rumored to have once lived there.

The approximately 2,500-square-foot main residence is situated on nearly 126 acres.

Three seasonal creeks run through the grounds that are surrounded with oak trees.  There is a stone walled garden, a separate vegetable garden, and large enclosed grassy area.

Other amenities include a manager’s cottage, a staff residence, a guest house, a pool, a four-stall shed barn, a four-stall converted milk barn, a four-stall mare-motel, a round pen, a riding arena, a tack room, a feed room, a seven-car barn, several sheds, chicken coops, six pastures, and two fields. Two original adobe buildings date back to the 1930s.

Several movies, such as Seabiscuit and It’s Complicated, were filmed in Hidden Valley, while the ranch has been used extensively for filming movies, such as How to Make an American Quilt and TV shows, such as Bones, as well as various Porsche commercials.

The community was also used as a training facility for the 2000 Olympics.

“Hidden Valley is simply magical, and this ranch is utterly enchanting,” says listing agent Kristin Regan of The Agency. “It has an unrivaled location in the valley, remarkable privacy, overflowing shade, and cool ocean breezes.”
