Commercial real estate tycoon Don Abbey is generating buzz in the world of luxury listings after putting two of the most expensive mansions in the United States on the market - and, yes, they're both his. Abbey, who founded The Abbey Group, is parting with the two custom built properties; his California mansion is on the market for $78.8 million, while his Montana mansion is on the market for $78 million.
The first property, which is known as the Bradbury Estate, is located on 8 acres of land just outside Los Angeles. The sprawling 30,0000-square foot home boasts 7 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and a custom $1 million Italian marble fireplace. Abbey, an avid outdoorsman, equipped the Bradbury Estate with a million-gallon trout pond with temperature control for optimal fishing conditions.
The second property is located on a private island on Montana's pristine Flathead Lake. Known as the Shelter Island Estate, the development of the 24-acre compound was a 10-year labor of love, with intricate construction details that likely will never be reproduced. Not only did Abbey buy the rare Flathead Lake Island, the tycoon also bought up property on the mainland to use as a staging area for the delivery of materials and equipment during construction of the fortress. At 24,000 square feet, it is the largest private home for sale in Montana.
Both properties also feature an EPA-certified, 25-yard shooting range, one of which was apparently used by actress Lucy Liu during her preparation for her role in Southland.
