Two years ago, the then-75-year-old listed his 16,000-square-foot residence at $100 million under the condition that he could retain exclusive use of the home for the remainder of his life. After a brief period off the market, the home has just become available for purchase once again—this time at just $39.9 million, and without the exclusive-use condition.

The five-bedroom, seven full-bath, two half-bath, Mediterranean-style home was built in 1912 by acclaimed architects Bliss & Faville. The grand mansion includes a ballroom, a flower arranging room, and a servants’ wing with additional bedrooms. Several rooms feature Anthony Hail’s interior designs from the 1960s. Outside, famed landscape architect Thomas Church designed the pool and surrounding grounds to showcase the areas stunning views.
