Gilbert Haroche, co-founder of popular travel agency Liberty Travel, just unloaded his full-floor co-op at the Sherry-Netherland—located on the corner of 59th Street and Fifth Avenue—for a jaw-dropping $70 million.

Though the figure is $25 million less than its initial asking (Haroche and his wife, Charlene, first listed the property in 2012), it's still one of the priciest co-ops ever sold in New York City, raking in nearly as much as financier Israel Englander's "crash pad" for his grandchildren at 740 Park Avenue (which sold for $71.3 million), and just as much as Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiri's purchase of late Edgar Bronfman's former home at 960 Fifth Avenue. Comprised of seven bedrooms and eight baths, Haroche's 8,000-square-foot posh pad—which was represented by Douglas Elliman Real Estate in the sale, and costs $60,000 per month to maintain—features views of Central Park from its three large terraces.
Its new owner is reportedly from China, which is rather unexpected given that the co-op board has been known to strongly favor Americans over foreigners. Residents of The Sherry-Netherland—a luxury hotel—enjoy twice-daily maid service, room service from Cipriani, and access to The Doubles Club (a private club downstairs).
