International culinary cuisine is the spirit of a new tableware collection by Italian research studio Fabrica, currently on display at the Paris trade show Maison & Objet.
All the objects in the collection are made in Italy, but inspired by the various eating traditions by which the young Fabrica designers were reared.
Fabrica collaborated with the Italian design brand Atipico on the project.
""The table is the perfect place for meeting up. At Fabrica, place of exchange and interchange par excellence, we love to mix our different cultures and backgrounds to create design projects which are a pure manifestation of the daily creative work and which become a source of personal growth and enrichment for our residents," said Sam Baron, Fabrica's creative director.
Fabrica residents come from China, Egypt, England, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Morocco and Scotland, to name a few. A set of glasses resembles Japanese tea cups; an aperitif set encourages Indian-style food sampling; a cutting board is ridged like a round of Italian schiacciatina bread.
Together, the objects transcend their cultural derivatives to form a cohesive set. At the same time, the pieces highlight diverse customs by way of multi-functionality. Ceramic, wood, metal, glass and fabric were used for the collection, which includes linens, crockery and kitchen equipment, too. Part of the Benetton Group, Fabrica is based in Treviso and offers scholarships to young creatives from all over the world.
The collection will be on view at Maison & Objet from January 23 to January 27.
