Briar Patch is the Hamptons’ Priciest Listing at $140 Million

Education entrepreneur Chris Whittle is selling his massive six-bedroom East Hampton waterfront estate—"Briar Patch"—for $140 million, making it the priciest listing currently in the Hamptons.

 According to Curbed, The  11.2-acre property on Georgica Pond has already been subdivided into 7.5 and 3.7-acre parcels.

"Briar Patch"—on Georgica Pond in East Hampton Village—is perched upon 11.2 acres, with a sweeping lawn, gardens, mature sycamore, maple and linden trees, trails, and a private pond habitat to local swans, egret, and heron.

The property is comprised of a 10,300-square-foot six-bedroom main residence; a 3,500-square-foot, four-bedroom guesthouse (with its own private driveway); a secluded tennis court; a 60-foot swimming pool (with changing cabana), an outdoor sundeck with views of the water, and a private pond.

The  main residence—called "Shepard Krech House"—was built in 1931 and renovated in 1990 by architect Peter Marino. It has a three-story living room, sunken library, gourmet kitchen, dining area, and third-story gym.

Details include two-foot-wide reclaimed floorboards, handmade wallpaper, and hand-stenciled ceilings. Each of the ground-floor rooms feature French doors opening to large porches.

The guest house—built in 1990—was also designed by Peter Marino. Similar in style and quality to the main house, this house includes a living room, kitchen, and four bedrooms.
