Billionare John Paulson Adds Hala Ranch to Properties

Billionaire John Paulson has purchased the Aspen ranch formerly owned by Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan.

The compound known as Hala Ranch was originally listed in 2006 for $135 million. As real estate values deteriorated, the property was pulled from the market. Paulson secured the holding at the comparatively low price of $49 million. The transaction includes the 90-acre Hala Ranch property at $41 million and the adjacent 38-acre Bear Ranch property for $8 million.

Hala Ranch boasts a 56,000-square-foot main house with 15 bedrooms and 16 baths. Many of the bedrooms open to a reflecting pool cloistered in an interior courtyard. The property also features tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool and a car wash.

Bandar bought the property in 1989 and over the following years added the home and amenities. Paulson's purchase represents what is believed to be the most expensive real estate transaction in Aspen history.
