Fresh off the cover of Architectural Digest, actress Meg Ryan’s loft in SoHo, New York City has sold for $9.85 million, according to press materials. The stunning 4,100-square-foot apartment on 84 Mercer Street boasts a classic, spunky design that provides both a reprieve from city living and a backdrop for entertainment.
In an interview with Architectural Digest, the When Harry Met Sally star said this was the ninth home she upgraded. Upon purchasing it from fellow A-lister, Hank Azaria, in 2014, Ryan hired architect, Joel Barkley, and interior designer, Monique Gibson, to gut-renovate the fifth-floor residence.
The actress first set foot in the apartment, which was once owned by Cindy Sherman, at a party over a decade ago, when she was immediately drawn to its “cinematic” character and expansive vistas of New York. Years later, her house hunting led her back to it. Reached by a key-lock elevator that opens into a private 40-foot foyer, the apartment flaunts a gorgeous blend of black and white finishes that let the thoughtful details pop.
A floor-to-ceiling French door leads to a large, 12-foot-high living room with six architectural columns and ebony-tinted wood floors. Adjacent is a formal dining room with a decorative fire place and storage cabinetry.
Off the dining room and anchored by an architectural column, the master bedroom exhibits an industrial, yet homey style, with an exposed brick wall.
The kitchen is equally impressive with marble countertops, a six-burner Viking range and grill, a Bosh dishwasher, and a couple of stainless steel refrigerators.
Ryan’s three-bedroom, three-bathroom loft first hit the market several months ago for $10.9 million. It was listed by The Corcoran Group’s Barbara Hochhauser and Jennifer Henson of The Stein Team at Sotheby's International Realty.
