#1: Benny 'King of Swing' Goodman's Pad
Credited for giving birth to swing, big bandleader and jazz clarinetist, Benny “King of Swing” Goodman, is considered to have been a trailblazer throughout his lifelong music career. This California tri-level estate on the highest stand-alone pinnacle of Paint Mountain in San Diego County was the brainchild and design of a wealthy physician, inventor, and investor. The 360-degree views overlook the Elfin Forest and Escondido to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and practically the entirety of southern California. The exterior, which has also been carefully restored, was made up of multicolored rectangles above a modernist wall mural designed by artist Alexander Calder. #4: Lake Placid Log Cabin
