Sir Paul McCartney just shelled out $15.5 million for a trophy penthouse at 1045 Fifth Avenue—a postwar, glassy high-rise overlooking Central Park.

Enveloped in over 800 square feet of balconies, the five-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bath duplex—which was featured in the New York Times not too long ago—sits on the top two floors of the 15-story building in the Upper East Side, designed by architectural firm Horace Ginsbern and Associates.

The address' crown jewel features a private elevator landing and white marble floors in its foyer and formal dining room, plus a two-tier gallery lit by an antique crystal chandelier and punctuated by a floating marble-glass-and-bronze staircase that connects the living/entertainment story to the upstairs suites. A marble bar also rests on the corner of a den/library, which showcases built-in bookshelves and a wall of custom cabinetry.

The master bedroom is blessed with western and northern park views visible through 10-foot, floor-to-ceiling windows, and is accompanied by a master bath equipped with a double-marble vanity, marigold-hued sunken soaking tub, and access to a narrow back balcony.
