New York Jets owner Woody Johnson just won big in the world of luxury real estate.
According to the New York Daily News, the well-known businessman—who purchased the NFL team in 2000 for $635 million—managed to unload his duplex at 834 Fifth Avenue to Ukrainian billionaire Leonard Blavatnik for a record-shattering price of $77.5 million, a stunning figure that easily tops financier Israel Englander‘s $71.3 million purchase at 740 Park Avenue, claiming the title of most expensive co-op ever sold in New York.
The Johnson & Johnson heir, who originally listed the Upper East Side home last year for $75 million, never actually resided in the luxe pad (which reportedly boasts an open layout ideal for entertaining, along with three maids' quarters), instead opting to stay at his One Central Park West digs.
The five-bedroom is far from Blavatnik's first real estate grab in the City. Even prior to the sale, the 32nd richest man in the world had already doled out well over $100 million for a handful of other residences in Manhattan, including 2 East 63rd Street (the city's widest mansion), and 15 East 64th Street (a townhouse he purchased from Edgar Bronfman for $51 million).
