A new two-full floor penthouse at Jean Novel's Chelsea Nouvel tower at 100 Eleventh Avenue has been listed on the market for a whopping $39 million. The 14-room, 9,493-square-foot unit is listed with Antonio Cosentino, vice president and associate broker with the Corcoran Group.
The unit, hitting the market for the first time according to Streeteasy.com, offers panoramic views of the city skyline via 14-foot, floor-to-ceiling windows and terraces, the listing says, and features eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms, as well as dens, study, dining rooms, living rooms and custom gourmet kitchens.
Nouvel Tower has had a somewhat tumultuous history since sales launched in 2007. More than 70 percent of its units sold at record prices when the financial crisis hit in 2008 but, as the recession forced the building into delays and cash shortages, buyers began demanding their money back.
While some may balk at the steep price tag, luxury home sales in New York City have been on the rise, even as the economy remains unsteady.
"Relative to everybody else, the higher-end market is where we're seeing record purchases and where we're seeing traction," Jonathan Miller, president of appraisal firm Miller Samuel, recently told Forbes.
