#1: Jean-Claude Van Damme's Marina del Rey Home
Priced at $10 million, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Marina del Rey home is currently on the market. The Belgian movie star purchased the property in 2012 for $6 million. Nicely situated on the water, it has canal, city, and ocean views. The three-story, 7,500-square-foot home includes a home theater, gym, wine cellar, chef’s kitchen, and an elevator. The master suite has his-and-hers bathrooms, and there are five fireplaces with a sixth outside. The roof deck has a swimming pool and 360-degree views. Multiple deck terraces open from the main living areas, and the home is within short walking distance of the marina, shops, restaurants, and the beach.
#2: Dramatic Park City Ski Home
Now for sale is Cascade, named for its impressive flow of zinc roof lines following the lay of the land and maximizing the sky-high views. Designed by Los Angeles architect Wallace Cunningham, the structure of steel, concrete, glass, and stone also has its own water cascading over boulders in a granite block “river” at the entrance. Sited on 5.63 acres, the four-bedroom, eight-bath home of approximately 8,000 square feet includes a three-room master suite with sitting areas, media areas, a floating fireplace, master bath, and his-and-hers dressing rooms and closets. Also included are a media room, three guest suites, a yoga room and glass elevator. The outdoor terraced patio is large enough to entertain a large number of guests. Cascade, designed by Wallace Cunningham in the exclusive enclave of The Promontory above Park City, Utah, is the highest priced home in ski land. The asking price is $25 million.
#3: Red Lily Estate and Vineyard
Available in Oregon’s Applegate Valley is Red Lily Vineyard. With 3,300 feet along the Applegate River, this award-winning boutique vineyard and estate offers a buffet of options for use or for expanding the vineyard. The state-of-the-art, 5,200-square-foot winery facility with a maximum annual capacity of 5,000 cases is only a year old, and currently reaches 3,000 cases that include Tempranillo, Tempranillo Reserve, Rose, Tempranillo/Cabernet Sauvignon blend, and Verdejo (white). Wine production at Red Lily Vineyard has found its niche in growing Spanish varieties, which thrive in the valley’s soil. The building contains a fermentation room with six stainless steel wine tanks, barrel storage room, case storage room, exterior covered crushpad, a conference room, and a spacious tasting room with fireplace where large gatherings can be held.
Included in the estate is the 4,470-square-foot main residence with four bedrooms, three baths, two fireplaces, gourmet kitchen, 600 square feet of outdoor living space, cathedral ceilings, travertine marble floor tiles, formal rooms, family room, office, media room, and game room with covered patio. There is also a second 1,800-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bath home, which had been remodeled and upgraded in 2012. Other structures on the property include a large 100-year-old hay barn, horse barn with stalls, a 1,200-square-foot shop and a storage building in the vineyards.
#4: Historic Maine Estate
The 1815 John Peters Estate, which includes 22.3 acres with a classic Federal-style main house, two-story cottage, and barn is on sale. Beautifully located on the shores of Blue Hill Harbor with its own dock for swimming, fishing or docking boats, the estate has a swimming pool and room for horses and outdoor recreation. Between the main house and large cottage, there is room for 20 people with 15 bathrooms. Though updated for modern use, the historical features have been well-preserved. All buildings show detailed attention to maintenance. The barn retains four horse stalls, but the remainder has been upgraded to include two conference rooms, a bathroom, and a prep area for caterers.
#5: America's Most Original Home
Boulder House, which graced the cover of Architectural Digest in 1983, is a home built on nine acres of land within an ancient archeological site of billion-year-old granite boulders. The dream home for archaeologists, historians, artists and those who love living close to nature is now for sale. Located next to the Phil Mickelson-designed PGA Whisper Rock Golf Course, the home includes 4,380 square feet, three bedrooms, two and a half baths, a great room with massive fireplace, Douglas fir beam ceilings, guest quarters with separate entrance, library with built-in bookcases, kitchen with highend appliances, and polished concrete floors tinted to blend with the natural stone color. The exterior has multiple terraces on different levels and large areas both inside and out for entertaining on a large scale. The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation currently owns the property, which is priced at $4.2 million. It is available for tours and events.
