Our friends at TopTenRealEstateDeals.com have rounded up a cool mix of multimillion-dollar homes presently up for grabs, from the priciest abode in the country, to award-winning performer Bob Hope's Palm Springs estate.
America's Most Expensive Home
Palazzo de Amore—an ultra-extravagant Mediterranean villa situated on 25 acres in Beverly Hills—presently holds the title of "most expensive home in the nation," thanks to its jaw-dropping $195 million price tag.
Developed by Mohamed Hadid in conjunction with prominent architect Bob Ray Offenhauser and high-end interior designer Alberto Pinto, the vibrant, 53,000-square-foot estate—currently owned by property investor Jeff Greene and represented by renowned broker and HLRN partner Joyce Rey—is comprised of a main house, a full guesthouse, and a slew of outdoor amenities including a pool and spa, an outdoor barbecue station, a tennis court, and a 27-car garage.
Surrounded by beautiful landscaping, the main house consists of twelve bedrooms, 23 baths, formal living and dining rooms, a breakfast room, a game room, an office, and a family room that opens up to the grounds. There is a lower-level, temperature-controlled wine cellar that can house around 10,000 bottles and barrels, including samples of vino produced by the large, on-site vineyard, which generates 400 to 500 cases every year. The home also boasts a Turkish spa and discotheque/ballroom space complete with a laser light system and revolving dance floor—not to mention a two-lane bowling alley.
New York Glass Penthouse
Perched atop the Seven Harrison Building in Tribeca, this 4,229-square-foot penthouse—one of a dozen residences within the formerly a converted warehouse redesigned by famed architect Steven Harris—is now up for grabs for $25 million.
Enveloped by a 2-351-square-foot, tree-lined terrace, the modern four-bedroom, five-bath condo features floor-to-ceiling glass walls and hydronically-heated limestone slab flooring. It also touts a long reflecting pool off its dining room (which is connected to its outdoor kitchen via a stone path), overlooking breathtaking cityscape views. The home's numerous living and dining rooms are drenched in sunlight during the day, creating leaf shadows that dance around its interior.
Colorado Lodge on 15,000 Acres
Built to serve as a getaway spot for the Kessler family—a clan of avid hunters—this 1880s ranch features a 20,000-square-foot homestead lodge and a 7,000-square-foot, two-story guesthouse, on top of two existing refurbished cabins and the original main house.
Rich with wildlife (particularly game such as elk and mule deer, bears, mountain lions, bobcats, lynx, and moose), the Colorado Kessler Canyon Ranch—presently asking $35 million—also comes with a large headquarters installation of storage spaces, maintenance structures, dog kennels and bird houses, a game cleaning and prepping room, and parking space for a fleet of specialized hunting jeeps, ATVs, snowmobiles, and other vehicles. A rainbow trout- and native cutthroat-filled Brush Creek also cuts through the estate, which nowadays serves as a family-friendly hunting retreat (though it can easily be transformed into a private residence). Among the resort's features include the Poseidon Spa, a movie theater, a game room, an exercise room, a shooting pavilion and gun range, a 12-target archery station, and a 10-station geocache orienteering course.
Kansas City Penthouse at The Walnuts
The Walnuts is arguably the most elegant residential in downtown Kansas City. Its three structures rest on top of a 10-acre, heavily-wooded city block of park land with views of landscaped English gardens.
The home's Jacobean architecture features include incorporating brick and stone into parapet walls, corbeled oriel windows, and its numerous terraces and balconies. A longtime Missouri landmark due to its history of hosting prominent figures such as Margaret Thatcher, the Ronald and Nancy Reagan, and Prince Charles, the 9,000-square-foot, two-story penthouse possesses an old-world charm, despite being one of the most high-tech houses in the city.
The home's current owner—Ambassador Charles Price of Britain—paid $3 million for the residence and spent another $6 million on revamping it to include details such as gold-plated hardware, brass and copper floor inlays, padded silk-upholstered walls, and rich silk window dressings. Every door in the home boast black-lacquer finishes and gold-leaf hardware, as are all of the house's fixtures. The property is set to be auctioned off and will go to the highest bidder over $1.5 million at the end of this month.
Bob Hope House Price Cut
Originally placed on the market in early 2013 for $50 million, legendary performer Bob Hope's Palm Springs house—which some might say resembles a spaceship and/or volcano—is still seeking a new owner.
Measuring in at 23,000 square feet, the John Lautner-designed residence—whose price has been chopped in half, at $25 million—features a high, undulating roof, along with open spaces in its walls and ceiling that allow sun rays and starlight to stream in and paint dramatic shadows onto its interior. It showcases six bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, and indoor and outdoor pools. A pond, putting greens, and a tennis court also lie on its desert-landscaped grounds, which overlook the beautiful mountains surrounding the area.
