Susan Singer Talks Market Challenges and Social Media

What is the biggest challenge of being a top broker in the Chelsea market?

Chelsea has gained so much recognition over the last few years, not just with the High Line but also with the addition of highly acclaimed schools such as the Avenues School on 10th and 25th St. This has created huge demand and with limited inventory the only way to succeed is to have an inside track on listings before they hit the general public. Fortunately, I was focused on this neighborhood before it gained popularity so I have that knowledge and information.

How much of a role do you think social media platforms play in your business model?

I created my first site in 2002, at that time it focused exclusively on London Terrace Towers. Later I added a blog about Green Living and Developments and featured a comic strip I created that followed the adventures of The Eco-Queen, the heroine who makes the world, and NYC apartments, a more sustainable environment. I use my Facebook page, Pinterest, and a Newsletter to help build my brand and keep in touch with my past and present clients – plus it’s a great way to direct everyone to my blog and serve as a way to introduce myself to prospective clients.  People trust referrals from friends they know well so all these platforms work keep me on the top of my clients mind.

Being a veteran in the business and accomplishing the great sales you have done- what small piece of advice would you give to a new broker looking to do the same?

Being a resident broker, that is living in a building that can feed your database and show your face and success, is a great boost. From there I believe that gaining a reputation as a smart, insightful and ethical agent is key. Whether representing a buyer or seller my primary goal is to listen to what their real needs are and do whatever is necessary to achieve them while maintaining my integrity and their trust. It works like a charm.
