In areas such as Audubon Place and Walnut Street, the prices start upward of a million dollars and run fast up to 5 million. This is true on parts of Saint Charles Avenue.

If one wants the Mississippi Gulf Coast with sand and casinos, then it is a little more than an hour away to Bay St. Louis; then, Pass Christian on over to Biloxi for the Hard Rock Casino and Beau Rivage and the Ohr Museum, built by frank Ghery. Or one crosses the Lake Pontchartain headed to Covington, which is less than an hour for horse country in Folsom, bush, etc. or one of the other charming towns, such as Mandeville or Madisonville or to Hammond and Pontchatula for the Strawberry Festival. Or one drives up to St. Francisville, then to Natchez, Mississippi, for the grand Plantations of the South, which is about a three- to five-hour drive, passing Baton Rouge en route.
The best spots to dine fancily are…elegant legendary eateries, such as Antoine’s, Galatoire’s, Arnauds, and Broussards, to more recent notable spots, including Revolution, Creoloas, and HerbeSainte.
The best spots to find entertainment are…Downtown, the French Quarter, Marigny, Magazine Street, Lakefront, and in Old and New Metairie.

They differ depending on what you’re shopping for. You’ll find antiques down Royal Street or Magazine Street, clothes throughout the Quarter. Other great shopping spots are Rubensteins, the LakeFront for Dillards, and Canal Place for more high-end retail stores like Saks.
The best places to tee off are…Audubon Park or Lakewood Club, according to my wife who is an avid golfer.
