Design Meets Ice Cream? Yes, Please!

London designers Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, founders of the company Doshi Levien, have finally brought together two of our favorite things; design and ice cream! The design duo were tapped for a unique design by gourmet ice cream company Häagen-Dazs, and they didn't disappoint, creating an avant-garde cratered, moon-shaped ice cream cake dubbed the "Ice Moon".

The designers listed a variety of inspirations for this tasty design, citing everything from silent films to Bollywood music. Standouts were Georges Méliès’ 1902 French silent film Le Voyage Dans La Lune, Armenian surrealist Léon Tutundjian’s 1929 relief works, childhood Bollywood songs and the shape of early ice cream 'Bombes'.

In an interview posted by the designers, they said; “Our concept is almost spherical, so the ice cream has to be moulded in two separate parts and then put together without seeing the join. We love the ephemeral nature of ice cream and design to be eaten; we never had a design meeting before in which we ate the prototype.”

The "Ice moon" will be available from Häagen-Dazs in two colors (read: flavors) - white and orange. The white moon has a pistachio base, with layers of macadamia nut ice cream, meringue and raspberry ice cream. The orange moon has a crunchy chocolate base, with layers of nutty ice cream, salty caramel and vanilla ice cream.
