Crate and Barrel Celebrates With Limited-Edition Arzberg Teapot Collection

This year, the famed home goods store Crate and Barrel is turning 50, and they're celebrating in style. In honor of the occasion, the company have unveiled a limited-edition 12-piece collection of the classic Arzberg Teapot. Each of the twelve teapots features a design by a world-famous artist, with such names as Olaf Hajek, Janine Rewell and Julia Rothman participating. One teapot design will be unveiled at the beginning of each month, beginning in December.

The history of the Arzberg Teapot traces back to the very origins of the famed home goods store, and the day it opened its doors back on December 7, 1962. The company's founder Gordon Segal, inspired by the new Bauhaus movement, was drawn to the simple shape of a teapot produced by the Arzberg porcelain factory in Germany. Segal originally purchased the teapot as a birthday present for his mother, but when he opened his first Crate and Barrel store in Chicago, he decided his customers would like its pure, timeless form as well.

The teapot was a hit with the new store's clientele, and  has been a staple ever since that day some fifty years ago. The teapots will be available for purchase online, and retail at around $200.
