Haute Covet: Lalanne Limited-Edition $500,000 Bronze Hippo Bar

The expression goes, you always want you can't have, and it could not hold more true than our most recent Haute Covet. We have fallen for these incredible limited-edition hippo bars created by the late artist and sculptor François-Xavier Lalanne. The artist created just 8 of these bronzed hippopotamus bars, and each retails for approximately $500,000. Called the ‘Hippopotamus Bar,' the design was created in the early 90s from patinated bronze. A smaller version is available for $100,000.

François-Xavier Lalanne was a painter by training and created his own brand of surrealism. The artist passed at the age of 81 on Dec. 7 at his home in the village of Ury, south of Paris.
