Twenty landscape architects have created a compendium of knowledge about the landmarks of our nation's capital. The American Society of Landscape Architects group launched the The Landscape Architect’s Guide to Washington, D.C website and app for mobile devices on September 13.

Visitors to Washington can scout out more than 75 important destinations —including monuments, gardens, museum exteriors, parks, plazas—and augment their staid tours with unique information from the perspective of a design professional. The guide is divided into 16 hours, and covers a most of the city.

Nancy Somerville, the society’s chief executive, believes the website will provide “a fresh perspective on both iconic and brand new landscapes within the nation’s capital". Washington DC and its iconic landmarks receive more than 19 million tourists annually, so the website aims not only to help tourists have a more enjoyable time in the city, but also to increase public awareness among city residents of the role landscape architects play in developing a healthy, vibrant city.
