On November 13, ABIMÓVEL (The Brazilian Furniture Manufacturers Association) and ApexBrazil (The Brazilian Trade and Investments Promotion Agency) hosted an intimate cocktail party in SOHO for their exhibition Espaço Brazil. The companies represent the Brazilian Furniture Image Project to display Brazilian designers in SOHO and trade show ICFF with the goal of introducing them to the global market.

Espaço Brazil hosted 20 Brazilian companies and designers and displayed over 40 pieces. Brazilian raw materials, techniques, and sustainability concepts were on display, representing the best of what the country has to offer in terms of contemporary furniture. In addition to the exhibition, Espaço Brasil will also stage a Trade Mission between Brazilian companies and US buyers as the United States is the main importer of Brazilian furniture in the world, receiving around 35% of national exports in the sector.

The cocktail party also featured traditional Brazilian food and drinks. Guests sipped caipirinhas and enjoyed pão de queijo while given the chance to mix and mingle with the best of Brazilian design. The Consul-General of Brazil in New York, Ambassador Maria Nazareth Farani Azevedo also spoke to guests about the mission and excitement behind Espaço Brazil. The exhibition ran from November 11th to 14th followed by a booth at ICFF from November 14th to 15th.

The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) is North America’s leading platform for contemporary furnishing design. ABIMÓVEL hosted a booth at the fair that showcased the best of Brazilian design and furniture. Amongst the participating Brazilian Furniture partner companies, Ornare, Tidelli, and Uultis will exhibit this year at ICFF. These three brands also exhibited during the recent Salone del Mobile in Milano, and attracted the attention of the media and international buyers due to the originality of the design and sustainabie qualities.

This is only the beginning of Brazilian design in North America. Thanks to ABIMÓVEL and the Brazilian Furniture Image Project, partnerships across the continent will be sure to blossom.

In November 2019, Bella and her sister, Gigi Hadid, had both purchased real estate properties in Manhattan. Bella purchased a renovated SoHo penthouse for $6.1 million. The six-story building dating back to 1877 was previously a silk showroom and was later converted into a residential co-op in 2016.

Many of the original industrial elements of the building remain such as the brick barrel-vaulted ceilings, dark metal columns, and exposed ductwork.

Hadid’s duplex spans 2,180 square feet with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The private rooftop deck offers an extra 779 square feet of space. Other features include imported Italian built-in closets, a glass-walled and temperature controlled 100-bottle wine room, custom lighting, and motorized blackout shades in the bedrooms.

The central room combines the kitchen, home office, and living and dining rooms. Hardwood flooring, modern light fixtures and built-in shelving are throughout the central room as well.

Ryan Serhant from Million Dollar Listing New York holds this listing.

For decades glass towers have defined the New York City skyline, but thanks to an effort to cut emissions, buildings are adopting an old school design.

For decades glass towers have defined the New York City skyline. While glossy, mirrored towers loom throughout Manhattan, a trend of classic materials including brick, concrete panels and rustic metals with distinctive glass windows, are making a return. With the Green New Deal in place, aiming to cut emissions overall, in part by banning towers with glass facades, New Yorkers can expect a rise in classic building design in the future. For now, let's appreciate these seven transformative New York buildings.

Greenwich West

Courtesy Greenwich West

Greenwich West is the first tower in NYC designed by a female French architect and one of the tallest buildings in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Manhattan. At 30 stories, the condominium serves as an urban lookout, providing panoramas of the Hudson River, New York Harbor, and Statue of Liberty. Designed by Loci Anima, acclaimed Paris-based architecture firm founded by Françoise Raynaud, who spent nearly two decades working alongside legendary French architect Jean Nouvel, Greenwich West is located at 110 Charlton Street in West SoHo. Raynaud brings her Parisian influences to life in a modern setting and seamlessly blends 20th-century French design with a classic New York loft feel. Greenwich West features a handmade brick facade with custom glazed brick accents made specifically for the project by the venerable Belgium brickworks Wienerberger. The building’s Art Deco-inspired curved corners lend a softness to the tower, while industrial-style casement windows – framed by elegant hand-laid brick patterns and custom pewter-glazed brick borders – salute the neighborhood’s heritage. Receding gracefully, Greenwich West’s intricate setbacks and 290-foot height allow for sprawling terraces in many homes and hallmark river views.

The Symon

Courtesy The Symon

Located between Court Street and Boerum Place, The Symon is Brooklyn's newest full-service boutique luxury condominium, offering 59 one-to-four bedroom contemporary residences with an elevated design sensibility and acute attention to detail, as well as a thoughtfully curated amenities selection. Steeped in history, the name, The Symon, is a nod to the patriarch of the Schermerhorn family, whose aristocratic mercantile legacy dates back to the 1600s. Known for their sense of civic duty and philanthropy efforts as a patron of the arts and educational institutions of New York – particularly Columbia University – The Symon celebrates the confluence of history and culture, commerce and education. With interiors and the captivating facade designed by Studio DB, The Symon reveals modern residences inspired by historic Brooklyn, showcasing a facade with distinctive arched windows, prominent canopied entry and hand-laid brick. Taking inspiration from the celebrated heritage of Brooklyn Heights, The Symon marries rich, natural materials with classic detailing to evoke the character and distinction of the neighborhood’s treasured townhouses and grand apartments.

40 Bleecker

Courtesy Williams New York

NoHo, Manhattan's historically-landmarked neighborhood, is home to 40 Bleecker, the new 12-story ground-up luxury residential development that has interiors by AD100 Ryan Korban. With architecture by Rawlings Architects, 40 Bleecker seamlessly blends modern design with the quality and distinction of buildings constructed a century ago. The striking brick and metal façade features punched glass window openings that are an important nod to the past and a reference to the historic, landmarked buildings within the surrounding NoHo neighborhood. Undulating in a step-like fashion at the top three penthouse levels and gently curving at its corners to maximize light and views, 40 Bleecker offers a boldly contemporary exterior design well situated among the historically industrial pre-war buildings of its surroundings.

Rose Hill

Courtesy of Rockefeller Group

Developed by the original builders of Rockefeller Center and designed with a vintage Gotham-esque flair, Rose Hill is a new 45-story luxury condominium tower currently under construction at 30 East 29th Street in NoMad. With architecture and interior design by CetraRuddy, the acclaimed global architecture firm is known for successfully blending modern design with crafted detail, Rose Hill draws a direct connection back to Rockefeller Center with its heavy Art Deco influence of the 20th century. Rising over 600 feet in height, the building is eloquently clad in a bronze-tone façade, accented by intricate detailing that frames expansive glass windows. Taking its place among New York’s architectural icons and inspired by the Rockefeller Group’s landmark developments, decorative lighting will illuminate the tower’s base and crown to highlight the building’s unique articulation. The contemporary design, although rooted in the past, speaks to today's modern New Yorker.

30 Park Place Four Seasons Private Residences

Courtesy Joe Woolhead

Designed inside and out by world-renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern, 30 Park Place —downtown's tallest condominium tower —features 157 ultra-luxury condominium residences that have been meticulously designed to offer the most gracious layouts, a full suite of private amenities as well as access to the hotel amenities, and the impeccable service of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. A return to the classic materials, 30 Park Place’s design recalls the towers of the 1920s and 30s with an intricacy of shape and a strong skyline silhouette. The exterior of the building evokes a classic New York façade with precast concrete panels that mirror limestone. Designed to maximize views, large bay windows are located throughout the tower, allowing for ample daylight and stunning panoramas of the city no matter where you are in the building.

The striking custom façade is comprised of nearly 600,000 handmade, handset bricks from world-renowned brickworks Petersen Tegl.

On Monday, Google announced its plans to invest $1 billion to open a new campus in the New York City neighborhood known as Hudson Square (at 315 and 345 Hudson, and then also 550 Washington). Hudson Square was once known as the Printing District because of the printing companies attracted to the large concrete and steel factory buildings located close to their Wall Street clients. In the 1970s and ‘80s, technology and design companies replaced the printing industry, attracted by the architecture, location, transportation options, and affordable rents. In recent years, the area has experienced a building boom. Not only is the neighborhood growing in height and number of residences but a large fund has been set aside to increase the neighborhood’s commercial mix, greenery, and traffic flow. Now, with the news of Google’s investment, the neighborhood is set to soar.

Corcoran broker, Todd Vitolo, is a Hudson Square expert. Vitolo says, “This once fringe neighborhood primarily attracted early adopters, artists, and families looking for privacy. Today with the southern portion of the neighborhood feels more like an extension of Northern TriBeCa. You have everything from the Renzo Piano designed 565 Broome where they recently put a $37mm Penthouse residence into contract, to the just launched Greenwich West and Extell's 70 Charlton. Those residences that take advantage of the Hudson River views or have an an architectural pedigree will certainly attract the super luxury buyers attention away from Tribeca and Soho proper for years to come. The best part of this neighborhood, and unlike the West Village or Tribeca in my jaded broker opinion is that there are zero tourists...a true downtown luxury these days.”

Here are some of the most luxurious homes for sale and rent in Hudson Square that Google executives take residence in and stroll to work.

70 Charlton was the first residential building to break ground in Hudson Square since the neighborhood’s 2013 rezoning which allowed for the creation of more residential and retail in development as well as an elementary school and open space. Unlike other developments currently underway, 70 Charlton is move-in ready with an unprecedented suite of amenities for the area including an indoor salt water pool, sauna, sports court, interior courtyard garden, children’s play room, fitness center and indoor/outdoor residents lounge with catering kitchen.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have acquired an impressive property portfolio over the years. There's the massive Mediterranean villa in the Hollywood Hills, a mansion in the Yellowstone Club near Big Sky, Montana, and a 127-acre undeveloped parcel in the outskirts of downtown Nashville.

With this impressive real estate on their books, it makes sense that Timberlake and Biel decided they don't need two Manhattan apartments. They're hanging on to the larger $20-million Tribeca duplex, making their "starter" apartment–one of the finest penthouses in SOHO–available for $8 million.

Designed by architect Gwathmey Siegel in 2007, the metal-and-glass Soho Mews features spacious well-lit, loft-style condos that have stunning views of Soho's famous Cast Iron district.

The crown jewel of this celeb-filled building, this over 2500-square-foot penthouse Timberlake used to call home, has 10 ft floor-to-ceiling windows, wide-plank hardwoods, and custom fittings for art gallery displays.

An 853-square-foot wraparound living room was the perfect home for Timberlake's grand piano. The 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths make this a versatile living or entertaining space.

A beautiful penthouse like this wouldn't be complete without luxury amenities including 24-hour door and concierge services, a private-entrance on-site parking garage, a modern fitness center, and live-in super.

One of the nicest features is the common garden and courtyard located between the West Broadway and Wooster Street buildings. It's a patch of green serenity among the 175,000-square-feet of classic elegance and contemporary comfort of the Soho Mews.

Squeezed amid Soho’s trendy stores and restaurants is 170 Mercer. It is a classic, elegant condominium building that houses one of the neighborhood’s most opulent penthouses. Embodying the very best of downtown living, Penthouse W blends gorgeous Brazilian cherry wood floors, ceilings that soar to up to 16 feet, expansive private balconies and a graceful staircase that swirls through three levels of luxury.

Listed for $10 million by Wendy Maitland and Ginger C. Brokaw of Brown Harris Stevens, the turn-key residence greets with a light-filled foyer that leads to an oversized living room with a slate wood-burning fireplace. Two sprawling terraces – one 565sq. ft. and the other 207sq. ft – wrap around the room and afford breath-taking views of Manhattan’s skyline. A South-facing guest suite completes the top floor.

The second floor accommodates every chef’s dream kitchen, a modern, sleek space that pairs form and function with Bulthaup cabinetry, a Subzero refrigerator and Gaggenau induction plate. Adjacent is the dining room, whose three classic oversized casement windows and Venetian-plaster walls make it the perfect place not only to dine, but also to show art (the walls throughout the home are outfitted with an integrate rail system for seamless art display). This floor also features a temperature-controlled 70sq. ft. wine storage closet, a powder room and a second guest bedroom.

More than a mere larger-than-usual bedroom, the master suite sprawls on the entire bottom floor. It includes custom-designed Brazilian wood-milled closets, a lavish master bathroom, a grand library, a splendid study as well as a discreet full laundry room.

Only minutes away from Greenwich Village’s Washington Square Park, this penthouse is a true gem of New York’s high-end real estate market.

Vanessa Carlton’s SoHo loft is back on the rental market for $17,500 per month. Who’s Vanessa Carlton, you say? Has it been that long already? Carlton is another pop singer-songwriter on the precipice of one-hit-wonderdom. But apparently, one Top 5 Billboard hit can furnish a gorgeous downtown apartment (Carlton bought it in 2004 for $1.83 million).

Carlton burst onto the scene in 2002 with the Grammy-nominated debut song “A Thousand Miles,” but she was eclipsed by Norah Jones’s spectacular debut album before virtually disappearing overnight. While we put out an APB on Carlton, let’s explore her loft, which is not only $450 less than its last sublet listing, but also comes fully furnished—with two pianos (and keyboards) that surely have Carlton’s composer fingerprints all over them (perhaps the first clue in tracking down Carlton's whereabouts today).

The full-floor loft at 182 Lafayette Street occupies an very private boutique building and features beautiful, exposed-brick walls, original iron columns, hardwood floors, tall ceilings and a small balcony for people watching—truly authentic downtown digs. Let’s tickle those piano ivories and explore Carlton's prescient lyrics from “A Thousand Miles,” which reveals where she longs to be.

Making my way downtown
Walking fast
Faces pass
And I’m home bound...

Sounds like New York City to us. But why would Carlton want to temporarily abandon her 2,500-square-foot SoHo treasure? The two-bedroom, two-bathroom loft is drenched in natural light with rare exposure on three sides. It showcases an eclectic décor mix of wide murals, impressionist art, music posters, Tiffany glass, and even a mounted steer skull. It has a large industrial-looking chef’s kitchen. And it has a private keyed elevator entrance into the apartment. Bellmarc's Lisa Garey has the listing.

If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass me by...?

Just how does one fall into the sky? Perhaps it’s some cryptic clue. Time just may be passing the 34-year-old Carlton by (by music standards), but we hear she plans to release her fifth studio album called “Liberman” this summer. Why the hiatus? Personal reasons? Carlton is very open about her personal life.

First the singer came out the nowhere, then she came out of the closet (as bisexual, during a performance!). She also revealed her past struggles to have a baby (on Facebook). She’s spontaneous, open, and honest, but we sure hope the royalty checks don’t bounce as far from the limelight (and from her loft) as she did.

Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you
If I could just hold you, tonight...

Good news, a quick Google search reveals Carlton’s album was delayed because she gave birth to her first child (a daughter) in January. That’s who she’s holding now. But where’s the crib? Not at 182 Lafayette, which becomes available for a year-term sublet on September 1st. Could Carlton be bicoastal, or residing in another New York apartment with her husband, John McCauley?

Wherever she is, it appears Carlton is about to turn the limelight back on, even if it won't shine into her loft. With all that natural sunlight, who would notice anyway?

Maybe this isn’t the home she sang about. Maybe home is where her heart is—in another residence with her new family. Or on Facebook. Or perhaps playing songs on the back of a flatbed truck like she does in her video for "A Thousand Miles." Wherever she is or ends up, we have a feeling she will be back for those two precious SoHo pianos.

Alas, TV personality Kelly Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos have found a buyer for their Soho penthouse, which cost them $9.5 million to revamp back in 2005.

Originally listed for $24.5 million, the pad sat on the market for 14 whole months before an unnamed purchaser finally agreed to take the plunge . . . though much to the show biz duo's chagrin, at an undisclosed discounted price.

Though undoubtedly sophisticated in design, the apartment turned off many past potential buyers due to its family-oriented layout.
