But sometimes, there is saving. Such is the case with The Sanctuary, Seattle’s newest luxury community in Capitol Hill. This hub of lavish townhomes replaces the First Church of Christ Scientist, a Seattle landmark since 1977. The Classical Revival-style church was closed in 2006, and was subsequently scooped up by a developer for $3.3 million.

In an effort to preserve the building’s architectural value and integrity, the developer turned the closed-down church into this living community. After a tumultuous start, the residences have finally been finished.
