Centaur Interiors is a boutique firm specializing in turn-key bespoke solutions for residential interior renovation and construction. With meticulous attention to detail, the dynamic team at Centaur Interiors, under the leadership of founder Michael Miller, has rapidly transformed the landscape in the residential design/build market in Chicago.

This particular riverfront residence makes an excellent argument for Centaur Interiors' commitment to delivering innovation, precise execution, extraordinary design and superior customer service to each and every client. The riverfront project developed from an existing relationship from a client who had entrusted Centaur Interiors to create a full vision for his new condominium residence. Situated high along the river, the client's initial desire was to update the powder room and fireplace and TV wall in the living room. However, the initial wish rapidly blossomed into a full renovation as the owner's trust in the team, as well as their excitement for the project, took over. The concept was to create a warm, modern space that did not feel too stark. Comfortable furnishings were a key element which were also durable for entertaining and everyday use.

You are initially drawn into the home by a feature wall incorporating translucent quartzite stone, floating in bronze channels at the fireplace. Both of which are backlit with a LED flat light to thread the custom mahogany bookshelf into the fireplace as one cohesive feature. The original flooring was replaced with darker, wide planked, hand scraped oak, which ties the space together.

The goal for the kitchen remodel was to lighten and modernize the space, while still meeting the client's desire for a transitional, warm, livable area. The Centaur team used mahogany millwork as an accent and feature throughout the home. The island cabinetry is wrapped by a dual waterfall of Taj Mahal which incorporates a floating custom dining table on a uniquely-shaped bronze base. The light satin lacquered cabinets and quartzite stone brighten the space up for a perfect blend in the kitchen.

The master bedroom boasts a full custom bed with mahogany wood framing and leather-wrapped panels. The fireplace surround was designed with new limestone, custom mahogany millwork panels, along with a place for both art display and the TV. The tones and colors used in the room were intentional to create a mood and lean more toward a masculine feel. The Centaur design team worked closely with the client to curate art for the home. The client's never-ending collection completes the residence and makes for the perfect home to live in day to day.

HGTV stars Erin and Ben Nappier took to Instagram this week to share some exciting news with their fans. The couple who put Laurel, Mississippi on the map with their popular TV show Home Town, recently announced the hit show will be returning for its sixth season.

Home Town has been a fan favorite show on HGTV for five seasons. It centers around Erin and Ben Nappier, a couple who were born and raised in the are and appreciate the beauty of their surroundings but feel that others do not. In order to repair this, they remodel homes for their community and slowly but surely remind folks how great and gorgeous their home town really is.

Luckily for HGTV fans, the good news does not end here. In the meantime of the success of Home Town, Ben launched his own show called Ben's Workshop. Ben is avid woodworker and carpenter and while any true Home Town fan knows this well enough, Ben's Workshop allows Ben to really spotlight his favorite passion. In addition to Home Town, Ben's Workshop has also been renewed for another season.

Erin's caption read as follows on Instagram:

"We can FINALLY tell you officially, #HGTVHomeTown season 6 and #BensWorkshop season 2 are in production and coming in 2022.
I am so proud of you, @scotsman.co!"

@scotsman.co is Ben's woodwork company as well as his instagram handle.

While an official date for the following season of the hit TV shows have not been revealed, this news is plenty to tide fans over until next year.

Cineflix, which produces Property Brothers on HGTV, is still facing a lawsuit from a couple who appeared on the TV show and felt “bamboozled and tricked” after discovering multiple issues with their costly home renovation.

Despite Drew and Jonathan Scott’s aim to help couples unearth their dream homes using “state-of-the-art” programs for construction and remodeling, the production company behind Property Brothers is now facing a lawsuit from a Las Vegas couple who allegedly found several problems with their home renovation, which was featured on an episode of the hit reality HGTV series.

Paul and Mindy King told KTNY that they’re suing Cineflix (the company that produces Property Brothers) and the local contractor, Villa Construction, that worked on their home after discovering wires left exposed, uneven baseboards, improperly attached doors, and a number of renovations not executed according to code. The brothers themselves were not named in the lawsuit.

To clarify, in order for the Scott brothers to work with local contractors on the properties featured on the show, the homeowners in each episode must take care of the expenses first.

The Kings paid over $193,000 to Cineflix for their home remodel in 2019 after hearing about a Property Brothers casting call in 2018. With promises of a perfect HGTV quality remodel, the couple said they passed on a honeymoon to set aside money and signed the contract that guaranteed all the work would be done to code.

However, the couple’s confidence plummeted after discovering the shoddy renovations, which Paul told KTNY that “for somebody just walking in, it’s really good from far, but it’s far from good.”

Prior to taking legal action, the couple claimed they gave Cineflix and Villa Construction enough time to fix the issues that they had identified in their home. Nevertheless, the production and construction companies have thus far disputed this.

Mindy filed a complaint with the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) listing over 90 deficiencies, but the board only addressed 10 of those listed to be warranted and issued a Notice to Correct such deficiencies to Villa Construction.

The couple’s claims regarding the access they gave the contractor to repair the damages in the house — that is, the property remained vacated for two months before the couple moved in, and they permitted the contractors to enter the house more than 10 times over a four-month period after moving in — were by contradicted the NSCB after it closed out the complaint citing the Kings for declining to let the contractor inside. Villa Construction and Cineflix both agreed.

Cineflix released the following statement from its lawyers:

“We recognize the responsibility we are granted by the homeowners who choose to take part in our television shows. Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc. works with dedicated professionals who take pride in their work. We are aware of Paul and Mindy King's claims and have worked to resolve the short punch list of items that were identified by the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB). When the Kings rejected our attempts to complete the work, the NSCB closed the case and the punch list of items remain unresolved. As this matter is now before the courts, we are unable to comment any further at this time.”

Meanwhile, Villa Construction President Todd Christensen released his own statement:

“We always strive for customer satisfaction in all projects we undertake. Regarding the project at 7400 .... Ave, we were contacted by and contracted with a production company to participate in several home remodel projects. After completion of this project, the initial, detailed Construction Punch List created by the homeowner was completed. We have been made aware of additional items, several of which were only brought to our attention over a year after the work was completed, by way of the homeowner seeking a third-party inspection by the Nevada State Contractor's Board (NSCB). We cooperated with the inspection and tried to work with the homeowner to resolve the short list of items that were identified by the NSCB. Access to the home was denied by the homeowner. The NSCB made the decision to close the matter on October 21, 2020 via letter which stated, ‘Since you have not provided the contractor access to make the necessary corrections, we will take no further action’. We understand that the homeowner is now pursuing a legal claim, and therefore we have no further comment at this time.”

Additionally, the Scott brothers’ lawyers issued their own statement to Channel 9:

“The Property Brothers (“Brothers”) are not named defendants in Paul and Mindy King's (the “Kings”) lawsuit initiated against Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc. and Villa Construction, nor are they responsible for the Kings’ alleged claims. The Kings have rejected Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc.’s and Villa’s reasonable attempts to remedy the remaining punch list items in the Kings’ home. Instead, in what appears to be an attempt to secure a substantial monetary settlement, the Kings have engaged in a negative publicity campaign against the Brothers. It is unfortunate that the Kings have resorted to such conduct.”

As of now, attorneys for Cineflix filed to have the Kings’ case dismissed, which is set for a hearing scheduled at the end of this month.

There’s no denying that city life is incredible. But with so much going on, it’s essential to take a step back now and then and give those tired batteries a bit of a recharge. Sometimes you just want to get away from it all: not in a camping, backwoods sort of way, but in a more cocktail-sipping, sun-seeking kind of fashion. It was precisely this type of escape a Brazilian family sought when they purchased a vacation retreat on Fisher Island as a respite from their hectic city life in São Paulo. Home to free-roaming peacocks, it captures the allure of a secluded island, but it also has all the luxury amenities of an exclusive resort. “It never feels crowded, and people really appreciate the privacy and security,” the wife says. Set on the farthest point of the island, their condominium overlooks miles and miles of ocean. “It’s our happy place,” the wife says. “It’s where we go to decompress.”

Originally weighed down by heavy traditional details—dated wallpaper, mirrored walls, and a cumbersome enclosed kitchen that interrupted the great room—the condo underwent a lofty transformation from dated Mediterranean to beachy chic thanks to Miami-based designer Luciana Fragali, who has designed multiple Fisher Island homes for her clients. “Luciana is so flexible and willing to listen to our ideas,” the wife says. “She created family-friendly rooms, so we never have to worry about sand from the beach.”

Although working on an island would seem like a dream, in this case, it posed some unique challenges. On Fisher Island, you can build only six months out of the year and subcontractors must arrive via barge, making preparation and timing paramount. Luckily, Fragali was able to work around these obstacles and transform the space entirely to feature new floors, walls, plumbing and electrical, appliances, materials, and finishes – this was a gut remodel of the entire apartment that took a great deal of effort and teamwork.

From the beginning, Fragali had one goal in mind: to open up the views. The owners asked for an expansive entertainment area, as well as comfortable guest rooms that offered privacy, making the vacation retreat as inviting as possible for their family and friends. To accomplish this, Fragali began by demolishing the enclosed kitchen wall to open up the space and transform the room into a spacious open concept living room and dining room featuring an exceptional dropped wood ceiling design.

“We opened the kitchen up to integrate the living room and to make it one large space,” explains Fragali, who removed a dividing wall to make that happen. The resulting open area is more spacious and takes advantage of the beautiful sunset views. Next, she replaced the mirrored covered walls with custom built-in shelves that become one with the living area. Using this accent wall, she placed unique accessories that reflect the natural light and turquoise waters below. “As soon as you open the door, you feel like you are literally on the ocean,” the wife says.

Keeping the emphasis on the panorama, expansive sliding doors open completely onto a balcony, essentially disappearing and expanding the living area into an enormous entertaining venue. “This indoor-outdoor effect alludes to the home’s refined yet casual vibe,” Fragali says. For the furnishings, she selected low-profile pieces that speak to the owners’ low-key personalities. “The wife likes clean lines and is very pared-down,” she says. “So I wanted a warm, sophisticated apartment with pops of color.” The designer captured this casual elegance through a careful juxtaposition of pieces that blur the line between modern and earthy, such as the pairing of custom-made floating console matching the natural birch dining room pendants and textured wallpapered wall niches with LED strip for radiance accented with black and white art frames.

While the water views clearly inspired Fragali’s approach, they also influenced the palette, with touches of warm creams, natural wood tones, upholstery, artwork, and accessories throughout. Even the master bedroom is awash in the soothing, ethereal hue. The master bathroom was another obstacle of its own – it had to be completely gutted down to the studs. Only then could Fragali begin to design a new luxurious master bath unlike any other featuring a large shower and a curved freestanding bathtub backed by wood mosaic wall panels.

But nowhere does the color scheme come more to life than on the balcony, where shades of sea and sky continue as far as the eye can see. From here, the family waves to cruise ships passing by. With umbrella-accented drinks in hand, they kick back and relax just the way they imagined, in true vacation style.
