Alison Melton: "As I tell a lot of my clients where we have to make a market sometimes, reach out and find those sellers, match the buyers and the sellers, I am so grateful to have had that experience on the big trading floors in New York and putting together those deals because that has really served me extremely well during this market. The great thing about living where we live is we are only six hours from Palm Beach. We can get in the car and drive to where we want: Charlotte, Atlanta, We are 30 minutes from Savannah, an hour and a half from Charleston, and four hours to the mountains. It gives us that flexibility... We have been focused on luxury real estate in the Hilton Head and Bluffton area. Here, in particular, we have a lot of the gated communities, the private communities focused mainly on golf, tennis, boating, and equestrian pursuits."

Kathleen Floryan: "We have three bodies of water around here, so it's a desirable area not only for boating purposes but different lifestyles. In the luxury realm, I've been focused on gated golf course communities... My focus has been predominantly on the luxury side of things. We have three bodies of water around here, so that becomes a very desirable area for not only boating purposes but also because of different lifestyles. There's the ocean, there's Intracoastal, and there's the St Johns River all along which waterfront properties, as we all know, are very desirable. In the luxury realm, I've been focused on golf course communities gated golf course communities... We are seeing a huge influx of businesses into the Jacksonville area that didn't consider Florida before, or as Jacksonville has been known as the gateway into Florida, we're starting to see more and more people finding it to be logistically smart [to come here]."

Taryn Pisaneschi: "[Over the last year,] we reconnected with the lifestyle and the demand here. You get used to showing these properties with the amazing backyards and you forget people can be walking along the Intracoastal and they don't need to have the backyards and the pools; they have these amazing views... We were able to show everyone what we did during Covid to prepare for the surge. [This includes] figuring out how we coexist, how we do virtual sales presentations better, and just loving where we live, not just personally but being able to convey that professionally, being more intentional with our time, what tools we're bringing on how we communicate value. And then, the market exploded... My husband and I have been in business together for pretty much 20 years. We founded and sold several businesses, and that foundation and commitment to customer service has been paramount to our success in real estate."

Kathryn Shafer: "I used to have my own brokerage business, and then 2008 happened, so life has changed on many levels. Now, I hang my license with Keller Williams and the luxury division there. I worked my office as a legacy business, as a family office. I work with clients that I've had for many years and selling real estate since the 1990s. I've worked with the business managers and the CPAs so I can market and sell their multi-million dollar homes in the Bel-Air and Brentwood areas, but I also love first-time buyers; it's a passion for me. So I work with their kids when they graduate from USC and UCLA, working for that first-time condo in Downtown Los Angeles, or their starter home out in the San Fernando Valley... The sense of belonging that Los Angeles has really realized, and what the terrible last 12 months have been, [all this has] brought so many of us closer together. People are really learning to love the city again and it a completely different way."

Haute Residence: To what do you attribute to the increased level of activity in your market as of late?

Kathryn Shafer: It's Los Angeles. For every “one” who moves to Tennessee, Austin, etc., there are two more who love Los Angeles and are moving here. Not just one-home families. LA is seeing multiple purchases for second-home properties. The glamour is here to stay. Once you fall in love with Los Angeles you never leave, or always want “one foot in”. Many of my clients who are leaving LA are not selling their properties. I assist in property management and long-term leasing.

HR: How do you see the luxury real estate market in LA going forward for the next few months?

KS: Demand is high in the Beverly Hills Post Office corridor to Sherman Oaks. From entry-level to trophy properties selling in Beverly Park Estates at 39 million. Private schools are aplenty, but BHPO and Sherman Oaks offer fantastic Los Angeles Unified School options. You don’t need to go private in Beverly Hills Post Office. The great elementary schools, [such as] LA Unified, are some of the best in Southern California.

HR: What has been a highlight sale for you so far in 2021?

KS: Working with a noted family out of Miami, my 2021 has been focused on getting their next generation settled into real estate. Both young adults are in the entertainment industry and are now just getting settled into a classic 1960 mid-century, and the other into a compound, both classic California living with pools and turn-key houses. Multiple offers are still commonplace in my markets, and proven strategies so far have been the winning formula to close the deals.
