In Ancient Greek and Roman sculpture, curves were used to suggest comfort, safety, and relaxation. Today, we’re noticing these aesthetically unique shapes in facades, amenity spaces, and windows in many new developments throughout Manhattan. In honor of this new trend, we highlight three stunning developments that use curves in its architecture.

130 William

Courtesy 130 William

130 William couldn’t exist anywhere else. Sir David Adjaye uses the neighborhood context as a starting point. He pushes against the conventions of tall glass towers with curves and arches inspired by classic Manhattan masonry architecture. A signature feature of the building is the unique silhouette of rhythmic oversized bronze arched windows that draw inspiration from the beloved lofts that once populated the area. At 66 stories and nearly 800 feet tall, the new luxury high-rise tower is quickly becoming recognized for its iconic exterior architecture, which centers around its unique curved windows.

35 Hudson Yards

Courtesy 35 Hudson Yards

Situated in Manhattan’s newest neighborhood, 35 Hudson Yards is the latest addition from David Childs and Skidmore Owings & Merrill. Drawing inspiration from David Child’s organic architecture, the building offers an arrival experience met with a nautilus-shaped ceiling light installation that effortlessly guides residences through the lobby to the elevator corridor. The selection of exotic woods, stones, and metals creates an inviting and luxurious atmosphere complimented with collectible furniture, art, and lighting pieces that further elevate the most luxurious building in Hudson Yards and a truly unique private residence in New York City.

125 Greenwich Street

Courtesy 125 Greenwich

Designed by world-renowned architect Rafael Viñoly, 125 Greenwich Street tops out at 88 stories. This towering building features an exposed concrete column that runs throughout the height of the building and a curved glass façade that enhances panoramic views of the Hudson River, Statue of Liberty and the skyline. This curved façade is carried through the 15,000-square-foot, residents-only, private club called The 88, which spans across the top three floors. The club is dedicated to the wellness of its residents and includes skyline and water views.

Luxury residences are attracting buyers with rooftop pools, designer lounges, and state-of-the-art fitness studios. The amenities race has hit a fever pitch making the extra features almost as important as the views when considering a new home. Now, they’re playing a whole new ball game, by offering national and global travel perks. Here are the developments forging partnerships with like-minded brands to offer exclusive access to travel and hospitality experiences.

DDG

Courtesy of DDG

Developer DDG is known for its portfolio of luxury buildings, spanning from San Francisco to New York and Palm Beach. Now they have taken their properties a step further by adding on-demand lifestyle services and exclusive experiences for its residents as part of a 24/7 concierge service. One of its most exciting components is the developer’s exclusive relationship with Star Jets International, a charter jet service that provides residents with custom-tailored concierge jet services, enabling them to travel anywhere there heart desires within the drop of a hat. In addition, the resident experience is also inclusive of door-to-door car transfers, itinerary customization, jet selection, onboard catering and more. There is no separate jet concierge fee; thus the benefit of this partnership through DDG is that the company's dedicated Star Jets International concierge will organize, book, and arrange everything. Truly a global amenity, this indulgent service guarantees residents can be whisked away to any corner of the world on a moment’s notice. That beats a fitness studio any day.

Four Seasons Private Residences Fort Lauderdale

In an attempt to stand out, new developments are looking to create unique spaces for its residents. Today, we’re seeing luxury condos increasingly working to appeal to art and cultural connoisseurs by accumulating gallery-worthy collections and offering residents memberships to premier cultural institutions. Artworks are sourced by top curators in public spaces, such as lobbies and dedicated gallery spaces, which can be used to host events. Here are two developments getting ahead of the competition and attracting a new category of buyers.

242 Broome

Down in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, 242 Broome is known as the cultural anchor to the Essex Crossing urban mecca. It’s luxury condominiums offer residents dramatic views, a flood of natural light, soaring ceilings and open plan living areas. Among all that, the luxury condominium building will now serve as the new location for the International Center for Photography. Residents will be given complimentary memberships to ICP, which includes unlimited free admission, discounts for all ICP school courses, workshops, lectures and special invites to members-only exhibition openings.

Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences, One Dalton Street

No detail has been overlooked in its creation, and that includes the condominiums public spaces. Developer and hotelier Dick Friedman commissioned David Bowie’s former art consultant, Kate Chertavian, to curate a collection of gallery-worthy art.
On the inside, there are over 100 stores, including a 190,000sq. ft. Neiman Marcus and New York’s first Forty Five Ten, an outpost of the Dallas-based boutique, along with all the favorites from FENDI to Tiffany and Co. and more. The dining collection is almost as extensive as the retail collection, with restaurants and food concepts co-curated by Chef Thomas Keller and Kenneth A.
Designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, The Shops And Restaurants pay homage to the industrial past of the West Side. Inside, steel and dark wood evoke rail yards that once dominated the area and natural stone floors and exposed support structures contribute to rough-hewn, urban elegance of this vertical neighborhood. Greeting guests at the entrance is an enormous honeycomb-like structure known as Vessel. Designed by Thomas Heatherwick and Heatherwick Studio, Vessel is the centerpiece of the Hudson Yards Public Square and Gardens. The climbable staircase features 154 intricately-interconnecting flights of stairs, 2,500 individual steps, and 80 landings. Standing 150 feet in the air, Vessel offers the public a one-mile vertical climbing experience and unique views of the new neighborhood.
