Downtown Miami’s Brickell Flatiron Condominium Unveils Last Remaining Duplex Penthouse, Listed for $9.4 Million.

With the recent pandemic sparking new demand for South Florida luxury property – particularly from wealthy out-of-market buyers lured by the region’s low taxes and tropical weather – CMC Group has unveiled the last remaining upper penthouse at its newly completed Brickell Flatiron tower in Downtown Miami. The 64-story tower’s developer, Milan-born Ugo Colombo, has decided to put the developer-owned “turn-key” unit on the market after successfully closing more than $30 million in penthouse sales in 2020. Approximately 98% of Brickell Flatiron’s 527 units are sold to buyers from around the world, with more than half of its residents hailing from within the domestic United States. The 736-foot-high skyscraper, located at 1000 Brickell Plaza in Downtown Miami’s Brickell Financial District, currently stands as the tallest condominium in Miami.

Now listed for $9.4 million, the expansive 2-story duplex penthouse spans over 4,600 square feet atop Brickell Flatiron’s 62nd floor and comes completely built-out and designed by Barcelona-born architect Alexis Cogul Lleonart of Miami-based Doo Architecture with beautifully curated accessories by Nest Casa. The fully furnished “townhome in the sky” features 4 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and a vast 20-foot double-height living area enveloped by panoramic cityscape and water views.

“Now more than ever, buyers have grown accustomed to and appreciate the level of detail we have always strived to deliver at CMC Group,” said developer Ugo Colombo, founder of CMC Group. “Brickell Flatiron’s last available penthouse embodies true Italian design. Every element used – from the finishes and fixtures, to the furniture pieces and colors – was designed with the highest quality materials and the utmost attention to detail to achieve a unique, one-of-a-kind product that will stand the test of time.”

Alexis Cogul Lleonart’s design model for UPH-6 at Brickell Flatiron expands upon CMC Group and Ugo Colombo’s ethos to create livable spaces with functional yet refined interiors that feel like home. Contrasting materials, vibrant hues, and playful lines were incorporated into a unique design aimed at complimenting the expansive views of the Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline. Wood panels, louvered walls throughout the main living spaces create a sense of warmth and integrity, while calling attention to the natural light and wide-open views coming from the two-story floor-to-ceiling windows. Thoughtful design elements include matte Venetian plaster and a custom glass staircase. The Italian-made kitchen from acclaimed maker Snaidero’s top tier “Elegante” collection features natural reclaimed wood, illuminated cabinets, custom-engineered stone countertops and a custom bar area. Top-of-the-line Miele appliances are paired with a downdraft cooktop system and a built-in wine cellar. Large-format Italian travertine tiles adorn the floors, with 10-inch wood planks in the bedrooms. The master bedroom features a custom cove lighted ceiling with wood paneling, pendant lighting, and Lutron motorized draperies.

“A well-designed space must provoke, enhance and encourage a reaction,” said Alexis Cogul Lleonart, founder and principal of Doo Architecture. “If this happens, our work is completed.”

Brickell Flatiron’s architectural design is the brainchild of architect Luis Revuelta, who is behind many of Miami’s iconic high-rises including CMC Group’s Bristol Tower, Santa Maria and EPIC Residences & Hotel. On the inside, master Italian design architect Massimo Iosa Ghini uses inspiration from Revuelta’s curved façade to outline the tower’s sleek common areas and public amenity spaces, creating a seamless transition from exterior to interior.

Amenities include a 64th-floor rooftop level with a Sky Spa, Sky Pool and Sky Gym, providing 360-degree panoramic views of the bay and downtown Miami’s glimmering cityscape. Residents may access a host of therapeutic services and other offerings including private steam, sauna and locker facilities, a 6,300 square foot state-of-the-art fitness center with Pilates, spin and aerobics studios, and a juice bar. Additional features include a resort-style lap pool and separate children’s pool on the 18th floor, private movie theater with stadium seating, billiards room and lounge, clubroom, full-time concierge and 24-hour valet parking, on-site vehicle washing and detailing, and electric car-charging stations.

Milan-born developer and CMC Group founder Ugo Colombo recently completed the installation of a multi-million art collection at his newly opened Brickell Flatiron tower in Downtown Miami. The privately commissioned permanent collection features a series of exclusively produced large-scale paintings and sculptures by New York artist Julian Schnabel, as well as signature pieces by Italian artist Carlos Battaglia and Italian photographer Marco Glaviano, which are displayed throughout the 64-story building’s grand lobby and public amenity spaces. Works by Battaglia and Glaviano add to Brickell Flatiron’s Italian sophistication and are complemented by the building’s sleek interiors and custom-designed furnishings created by Italian design architect Massimo Iosa Ghini.

“Brickell Flatiron’s signature art collection complements the building’s timeless elegance and sophisticated Italian style,” said developer Ugo Colombo, founder of CMC Group. “We’ve spared no detail or expense to deliver a memorable product for our residents, offering the highest caliber of quality and design that will withstand the test of time.”

Highlights from the collection include two dynamic pieces by Italian painter Carlo Battaglia: Visionario, 1968 and Visionario 7, 1969. Born on the Sardinian island of La Maddalena, Battaglia is best known for his abstract paintings from the 1960s, rich seascapes from the 1970s and ‘80s, and watercolor sketches of New York City made in late 2001.

A standout among Julian Schnabel’s custom prints and pastel-colored paintings at the tower is the iconic Sawtooth Lamps sculpture from his 2014 collection, fashioned from cast and plate bronze. The American painter and filmmaker’s large-scale pieces are materially and thematically monumental, drawing on a wealth of influences from Cubism to the practice of Cy Twombly and themes such as sexuality, obsession, suffering, redemption, death, and belief. Crowded with paint drips, dynamic brushstrokes, and found materials including broken plates, textiles, tarpaulins, and velvet, many of Schnabel’s works combine painting and collage techniques.

Italian photographer Marco Glaviano also exhibits two framed prints at the luxury condominium, including Dizzy Gillespie in the 27th st. studio in New York, 1992 and Sonny Rollins at Umbria Jazz in Perugia,1998. The Sicily-born photographer and architect pioneered digital photography as the first to publish a digital picture in American Vogue in 1982. He’s worked for leading fashion magazines and brands on both sides of the Atlantic and has photographed some of the world’s best-known models, including Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Paulina Porizkova and Stephanie Seymour.

Massimo Iosa Ghini uses light as a key element throughout the project with contrasting soft and bright lighting used to distinguish the indoor and outdoor spaces and create a comfortable yet refined atmosphere. Unique vignettes with curved interior lighting mimic Brickell Flatiron’s shape while various Italian marbles line the floors and walls, creating a beautiful sense of movement. Each space, object and fixture is designed with careful attention to detail and the highest quality materials, as the combination of raw elements such as onyx, ivory and stone with warm metals like brass, bronze and copper convey a minimalistic and pristine ambiance. The amenity spaces also feature select custom-designed furnishings created by Iosa Ghini himself, as well as imported pieces that were hand selected for their bespoke nature and superior craftsmanship.

One of the world’s most in-demand residential neighborhoods has a new architectural icon to call its own. Brickell Flatiron, the 64-story luxury condominium tower built by developer Ugo Colombo’s CMC Group in the heart of Downtown Miami’s Brickell Financial District. Designed by Miami-based architect Luis Revuelta, the building’s distinct flatiron shape and curvilinear façade are complimented by sleek interiors created by Italian design architect Massimo Iosa Ghini. The 736-foot-high skyscraper, located at 1000 Brickell Plaza, is the tallest condominium in Miami.

Known as one of the most prominent Italian architects and designers in the international world of design, Massimo Iosa Ghini contributed in the 1980s to the innovative action carried out by design avant-gardes, by establishing the cultural movement Bolidism and by taking part in Ettore Sottsass’ Memphis group. Among his main interior design and architectural projects, there is the worldwide development of the chains of Ferrari Stores and Kiko Stores, Casa Museo Giorgio Morandi in Bologna, amongst others.

Haute Residence caught up with Ghini to discuss how his involvement came to be with the Brickell Flatiron project and where his design inspiration comes from.

What led you to want to take on a project in Miami? What attracts you to designing here?

Miami is a dynamic city. The economy has a strong propulsive thrust, art plays an important role and life is truly celebrated and enjoyed. These are elements of Miami’s daily routine. When designing any project I make sure to consider these signature aspects of a place.

Have you done any other projects in Miami before? How does Brickell Flatiron differ from those?

I have been working with CMC Group since 2000. The first project, “4000 Ponce,” involved the interior design of the common areas in a building with various commercial units and offices, including the Italian Consulate in Miami. “The Collection,” a nearly 20,000-square-foot showroom of luxury cars followed. In addition to Brickell, I also recently designed the interiors of the CMC Group headquarters in Miami, as well as my own Miami offices. Other Miami retail design projects include Italian clients Ferrari and Kiko Milano.

How did your involvement with Brickell Flatiron come about?

We have had a trusted collaboration with CMC Group for many years. We share the same intention: succeed by striving for high-quality projects.

Where did you draw your design inspiration from for this project?

In this case, the interiors were inspired by a classic aesthetic—one in which the interiors mimic the natural flow of movement in the building. Materials are classic and traditional. Clear metals, bronzes, and wood are used with a light touch and high quality stone finishes from Italian quarries—the same used by Renaissance artists—are implemented. This classicism is contrasted with unfinished materials, such as rough surfaces, concrete, raw metals, and elements where technical and structural parts are exposed. We used energy-efficient lighting to create a cozy atmosphere, which enhances Ugo’s collection of Julian Schnabel pieces of art.

What do you love about working with Ugo Colombo on projects?

I believe that Ugo and I have the same approach. It is necessary to be meticulous and a little bit “obstinate” in order to succeed in creating quality within a project. This does not mean one must spend more to achieve it, but it means simply, that one must be more thoughtful. Through a strong collaborative effort and effective communication, Ugo and I have become great partners and we share the same goal of achieving exceptional results. In my more than 20 years experience as an architect for Ferrari, I’ve always had a clear idea of how to operate at the highest level necessary and how to constantly improve. This approach yields a superlative outcome no matter the project I am undertaking.

Developed by Ugo Colombo and his team at CMC Group, the exquisite building, with its flatiron shape and curves on the balcony of every floor, was designed by Miami-based Luis Revuelta. Interiors are by renowned Italian design architect Massimo Iosa Ghini, who seamlessly implemented Revuelta's design onto the interiors.

Over 95% of the building’s 527 units are sold, with remaining residences priced from $790,000 to $3 million. One upper duplex penthouse is available for $8 million.

Units in Brickell Flatiron have been purchased by international luxury buyers from Argentina, Colombia, Italy, Mexico and Venezuela. However, U.S. buyers are the biggest bloc, buying over half of all units. The lure of Downtown Miami and Brickell has generated interest from those interested in the cosmopolitan lifestyle at a fraction of the price of other high-profile markets.

“When we started developing in Miami in the early 1990s, our firm viewed Brickell and Downtown as a ‘blank canvas’ that would one day come to life as a vibrant residential and commercial district where streets were alive 24 hours a day,” said Colombo. “Brickell Flatiron stands out for its unique luxury lifestyle woven into the urban landscape and is a reflection of Miami’s coming of age as a cosmopolitan city with a thriving downtown at its heart.”

Steps away from Brickell Flatiron are some of Miami's finest restaurants, shopping centers, five-star hotels, and transit hubs that service the area's headquarters for hundreds of companies.

Under Colombo's leadership, CMC Group has been in the luxury development in the Brickell Financial District since 1994, when it developed Bristol Tower, and the Santa Maria in the mid-2000s, both generating record sales revenues.

Amenities on the rooftop include a Sky Spa, Sky Pool and Sky Gym with 360-degree panoramic views of the bay, Downtown Miami, and beyond. The private steam, sauna and locker facilities are close to the 6,300 square foot fitness center with Pilates, spin and aerobics studios, and a juice bar.

A resort-style lap pool and separate children's pool on the 18th floor, private movie theater with stadium seating, billiards room and lounge, clubroom, full-time concierge and 24-hour valet parking, on-site vehicle washing and detailing, and electric car-charging stations are other features within Brickell Flatiron, guaranteeing nothing but the finest in urban luxury living.
