It's a new year. And time for a new decor, and to make the inaugural 2019 celebratory festivities last year-long, in swanky luxury style.

2019 has arrived, and the resolutions you made to yourself—to get that toned body, to ask for that pay raise and to exponentially experience more riches and romance—are currently underway. It's evident that you have committed to improving yourself —and rightfully so— but what about your home surroundings? Simply stated, your home is a reflection of yourself. As such, it deserves a makeover too.

One of the most stylish ways to update your home space is by incorporating some of the design world's hottest trends. And so, to kickstart some inspiration, here are some luxury home design trends that are sure to rock this upcoming year, making 2019 your home's best year yet.

Light-Colored Floors Are Sweeping Interior Home Design

Light-colored flooring is making a comeback and makes for a more airy and open ambience. Oak hardwood floors reflect more light, and simply exude luxury.

Comfort Is The Key To Luxury

Coziness never goes out of style. In 2019, your home should continue to feel welcoming and your living space to emanate warmth. There's nothing like neutrals with rich browns and tans, coupled with rich lighting, to create that ultimate cozy ambiance. Add in those oversized plush pillows and silky-soft blankets and a sofa so comfortable that you'll Netflix and chill for hours.

White Walls Are A Home's Blank Canvas

Smooth, clean white walls are in. Again. That absence of wall color creates the potential for infinite room possibilities that include statement furniture pieces, vibrant pops of color and rare, distinctive artwork.

Interior home design in 2019 will be built on a foundation of white, but shall also gently embrace accents of confident and edgy hues. This sleek design approach will create a fresh, bold look that is tempered by neutral layers and textures which add a touch of luxurious elegance.

City Scape Views Continue To Be A Home's Wallpaper

City scape views and clean-lined design will continue to be the top two design elements in 2019 used to commemorate up-to-the-minute modernity.

Floor-to-ceiling windows will continue to be the architectural design detail used to unveil those city scape staggering views. Imagine dining amongst such bountiful views and at a table grand enough to support anyone, anything luxurious.

With walls of windows throughout your home, working at home in 2019 will never feel so easy-breezy.

Sleek Veneer Cabinetry Is The Go-To Kitchen Design

In 2019, warmer and darker countertops and cabinetry will be the go-to kitchen designs.

Marble will remain a classic choice, but you'll see more darker tones and warmer-based stones instead of stark whites and grays. Of course, maximized and clever storage solutions will remain kitchen must-haves.

Natural Materials Makes Their Move In The Bedroom

Stepping away from the tech-obsessed decor that ruled the 2018 design trends, 2019 will move towards soft, natural materials such as wood, stone, and copper. Fresh elements such as these will help bring an organic and serene ambiance to any room, particularly the bedroom.

2019 is gearing up to be a year where you say goodbye to stainless steel and polished nickel, and welcome brass accents back into your home. Brass will serve as a warm and subtle alternative to polished steel.

Bolder Is Better

Lastly, 2019 will be a year when bold colors are preferred for certain accent furniture pieces. Vibrant color combinations and unusual shapes will be embraced as well.

Adding just the right amount of dramatic, moody deep colors will provide the finishing touches to your modern luxury home in 2019. Look out for bold blues, statement pinks, dramatic yellows and those vibrant verdant greens.

It's now clear that 2019 could be the year for you to seize the opportunity to make your luxury home an interior home-design trendsetter. All while remembering that bold colors make for bold living.

Designers and clients often have different visions for what a room should look like. What is the best way to identify your client’s aesthetic?

Listen not only to the audible words spoken but also to the unspoken ways a client describes or expresses their lifestyle. There are numerous examples of clients that at the onset verbally describe in vivid detail the style they wish to implement. Through years of study, I have come to understand there is consistently a more reflective and genuine style the client desires. It is the responsibility of the designer to deliver what the client at their core desires. Not every client is able to articulate his or her vision, therefore the role of the professional designer becomes of great value by distinguishing and clarifying differences between surface visions and the deeper more authentic desirable vision.

What is the most critical question a client should ask when selecting an interior designer?

It is highly recommended that a series of questions be explored from a broad spectrum of critical topics; there is no single magic question. These topics should include (but are not limited to) the designer’s expertise and knowledge in different design styles, his/her ability to professionally communicate, how challenges are addressed and most importantly remedied, proven business ethics and best practices, accountability, reliability, time management systems, budget assessment and management, etc. All of these areas should have a clear description and understanding prior to the engagement of services. At the core of each of these aspects must be the mutual respect for the other’s persona and a genuine connection between personalities.

What are the primary factors needed to make an interior design project successful? How do you define your success?

Teamwork and systematic communication practices. Anything is possible when the individuals understand their key roles in a relationship to the whole working for a successful outcome. Styles and details vary between projects. What remains consistent during a successful project is the foundational synergy between the participants.
According to The New York Times Style Magazine, Rizzoli will publish White House designer Michael S. Smith’s “Building Beauty: The Alchemy of Design,” a book featuring Smith’s process of decorating a beachfront property. The designer is well known for his selection as Obama’s white house redecorator, and he was further honored in his appointment to the Committee for the Preservation of the White House.

Michael S. Smith wrote his book based on his experience of transforming a Malibu house into a beautifully curated home featuring furniture and art from the 5th century to the 18th century. The home has been sold, and the former owner will auction its contents at Christie’s in New York.

Poster or lamp? We’re wondering the same thing. Luckily, we don’t have to choose, because Jean-Sébastien Lagrange has literally created a cross between the two. It may sound a little strange, but it’s definitely a wild lighting alternative.

French designer Lagrange has crafted L-INK, a fixture with LED lights scattered along ink lines. When the bottom right corner magnet is folded up to another, LED lights will brighten.

Lagrange collaborated with French Design Studio Chevalvert, and the lamp poster is on display at the Biennale Saint-Étienne until the end of the month.

Marni presents the 2013 edition of the project “100 Chairs;” unveiled in the new space in viale Umbria 42 in Milan, the colors of the collection reflect chic, urban sitting rooms.

Featuring small chairs, chaise-lounges, rocking chairs, and tables, the collection incorporates bright colors and woven patterns that compliment many different living room and lounging area styles. The collection also features a children’s edition that includes even more youthful colors and designs.

The most inspiring part of this functional-yet-fashionable collection is Marni’s dedication to helping Colombian ex-prisoners resettle into new careers; each chair is handmade by an individual aiming to reintegrate into social and working life.
