Sean Combs, notably recognized by his multiple stage names Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Puffy, or Diddy, is an American rapper, record executive, record producer, and entrepreneur. The hip hop musician was romantically involved with model and actress Kim Porter for 13 years and the celebrity couple had four children together. In 2009, Combs purchased a mansion in Los Angeles’s Toluca Lake for $5.3 million which would become a longtime residence for Porter.

However, Porter unfortunately passed away in her home at the age of 46 due to pneumonia. Now, three years after her passing, the dwelling is being listed by Combs for $7 million. The affluent neighborhood is also home to various other public figures such as Sia, Viola Davis, Steve Carell, and Billy Ray Cyrus. Combs also owns a second residence in Los Angeles.

Built in 2006, the Lake Toluca mansion rests on half an acre of picturesque land and offers 9,600 square feet of living space with six bedrooms and seven baths. The East Coast traditional opens to a two-story foyer with a stunning spiral staircase. The interior floor plan presents a grand great room, a luxurious living area, and a double-height ceiling family room. Further into the space rests the expansive kitchen equipped with a gorgeous marble island.

Upstairs, the second floor presents six bedrooms and several baths. The primary ensuite bedroom leads into a connected bath with pretty pink colored walls. Stepping outside, the exterior highlights a family-sized pool, relaxing spa, lush landscape, and a sizeable patio with a cozy fireplace for lounging. Additional luxe amenities include a sports court, three-car garage, and optimal privacy with gated surroundings and a 24-hour security system.

Carl Gambino with Compass holds the listing for this property.

As millions of people have shifted to working from home in just the past couple of months due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, having a comfortable and functional home office is arguably more important than ever. A space within your home that nourishes productivity and efficiency makes the working hours more pleasant.

With that in mind, members of the exclusive Haute Design Network gave us a look at some of their home office design projects, detailing them in their own words.

Angus|McCaffrey

Alice McCaffrey, Angus|McCaffrey Interior Design: In this custom built home for a family of five, the art is the hero and the launchpad for many of the rooms. Enter into this sophisticated man’s study and one can’t help but be struck immediately by the strength of Ellsworth Kelly’s Dark Green Panel. The print takes center stage amidst custom built-in cabinetry punctuated by linear polished nickel hardware and accents. The man’s study balances dark handsome walls with glints of polished nickel and chrome. The green of the Ellsworth Kelly piece is echoed once again by the green Edelman Leather seen on the vintage barrel chairs by Coup D’Etat. The glass and steel desk by Ralph Lauren home seems to float effortlessly over a geometric rug by Stark Carpet. On the desk, the vintage bronze sculpture by Claude Lalanne adds a wonderful contrast to the linear theme with its warm tones and organic figurative form adding another artful punctuation to the room.

Giselle Loor-Sugerman, B+G Design: Throughout times like these we truly begin to realize the importance of a multifunctional space. This particular space was designed for a client with the intention of providing a home office feel along with all of the perks that come with an entertainment area. We incorporated a segmented home office that has open access to billiards, state of the art media system, and beyond. Another piece we find vital is a pop of color, especially with a room that has a neutral color palette. We like to incorporate fresh and unique artwork to bring the space to life. During a pandemic, it is essential to have a comforting space that doubles as an effective workspace.

We thoughtfully gave this room a monochromatic canvas to house his collection of pedigreed and unattributed vintage guitars. The custom-designed walnut desk and credenza were finished in the same color as the floors for a tone on tone presentation. Although sleek in appearance, both pieces are highly functional housing a computer, printer, files and cords. Adorning and completing the room is a collection of personal memorabilia and family photos for that final personal touch.

The room is adorned with a trove of antiques, most notably the partner's desk, huntsman-styled inkwell, double-horned candelabra, brass bar cart, and vintage decanters and trophies. An original work by Chloe Early, painted on aluminum, was placed over the sofa to give the room a flair for the modern.

Joe Human, Designs By Human: We created this home office for our client to be a space to get work done, but also double as a space he would feel comfortable relaxing in and playing a game or two when taking a break. I wanted to frame the view of the city and incorporate several masculine materials, one of which is a leather wall with hand-stitched details. The desk itself is a granite that I specifically sourced out to be "soft" to the touch but also durable when it comes to ink and pencil writing. I had the desk "floating" off of the wall to allow for maximum flexibility below, whether that is adding multiple file drawers, printers or just leaving it open for future needs. We custom-designed the desk along with shelving above to house the various collectibles our client has. It was important to have a mixture of decorative displays to keep the space stylish but also fun and not so corporate office. After all, it is a home office and you want to be comfortable at all times in the space.

Gabrielle Aker, Oh Beauty Interiors: When designing home offices, we put our clients' intent at the forefront of the design process. Are they looking for an inspiring space, a calm oasis, a productive den, or a creativity-sparking haven? In this home office, located in Downtown LA, we wanted to create a space that sparked creativity, brought nature in, and honored the industrial architecture of the warehouse in which it resides. We created a wall sculpture using sand-blasted driftwood branches and pampas grass to transform an otherwise modern chandelier, making sure the space felt raw and organic.

Mid-afternoon in Southern California means lounging by the blue waters of a swimming pool to gather strength for another night out. Summers can be dry and hot with temperatures pushing past a hundred degrees numerous times. The best cure for beating the stinging heat is slipping into the silken waters of a luxurious pool.

These properties have the goods when it comes to being ready and well stocked for pool season.

So, let's don bathing suits and raise an umbrella drink to the glory of the SoCal pool life.

The Water's Edge Above San Diego

This Mediterranean-inspired estate used to be home to a female world number one tennis pro. It's wood covered patio leads to waterfall grottos that flow into an infinity edge pool that looks out on views of Rancho Santa Fe and the San Dieguito River Valley.

Infinity edge pools trick the eye into thinking that water has no boundaries. Standing inside the pool and looking west, a swimmer would have the illusion of the water blending seamlessly with the pale blue sky.

This pool would be the perfect 19th hole after a day spent swinging clubs on the Crosby Golf Club course.

Splash Around In Sheryl Crow's Former Pad

Sheryl Crow relisted her three-home spread this year. Consisting of a Spanish Revival style house, a craftsman's home, and a cozy cottage, this LA compound could rock any size party.

Take the winding pathways between properties, past the tepee, to a pleasant infinity pool with plenty of comfy lounge chairs and shady spots to kick back.

The pool was designed by Jonny Appleseed Landscaping who brings 25 years of garden and pool making experience to craft an outdoor oasis that considers the wind, weather, sun, and style as all part of the design.

A Blend of Water and Concrete Becomes a Work of Art

This modern Rancho Santa Fe estate melds the indoors and outdoors with wet and dry spaces in an architectural pattern that is both artful and soothing.

Blue tiles blur the water's edge that jigsaws through the palatial patio space, running at one point under a shady portico and in other spots reflecting the passing clouds in the open sky above.

While this massive pool begs the owner to invite many guests, a smaller plunge pool nearby offers a peaceful place for quiet introspection or more intimate gatherings.

Open Space and Clean White Lines Lead to This Pool

This tropical Encino home features fine architecture on a green lot with a huge pool in the backyard.

Swim laps in the big pool before recovering in the connected whirlpool spa. A great expanse of space bordered by tall trees, this gleaming place belongs to those hearty souls wanting to swim freely, breath deeply, and enjoy the feel of cool water on their backs and soft grass between their toes.

Southern California's home styles are as diverse as its residents. There are the charming Cape Cod's of Sherman Oaks, the Tuscan homes of Calabasas, the Tudor's of Hancock Park and the Craftsman homes of Studio City–just to name a few. While there may be a type of home for every personality and lifestyle, one architect has become known as the home designer who defines California luxury living–Paul McClean.

Orange County Register, April 10, 2017

McClean has come a long way from his Dublin, Ireland home as a boy where he used to draw houses and ask his parents, "what type of person does that?" Fortunately, for luxury home buyers, his parents steered him toward architecture.

As a student, he came to appreciate the modern home designs of L.A. "Growing up in Ireland, I was so intrigued by a home that you could open up to the elements and make the walls go away," he told The Real Deal last year.

His big break came in 2014 when a stunning home he had designed years earlier was purchased by the late Swedish DJ Avicii. From then on, McClean became the in-demand nest designer for the celebrities and financiers who fly high above Hollywood on the Bird Streets.

With a client list boasting Beyonce and Jay-z, Calvin Klein, and the Winklevoss twins–McClean took his star-architect status to a whole new level when he teamed up with spec-home developer Nile Niami.

Among the pair's giga-mansion collaborations, is "Opus" a 100-million, 20,000 square foot compound comprised of 12-foot ceilings, Roberto Cavalli floors, disappearing glass walls, a Cristal Champagne room, infinity edge pool, and a sky bridge.

Opus may be the only mansion on the market that includes original Damien Hirst artworks as some of the more "affordable" things in the room.

What makes McClean a great architect is that at the heart of all of his home's opulence and grander there is still a welcoming place inside for people to enjoy life.

Paul McClean characterizes his creations with smooth staircases, towering wine cellars, glass walls, and waterways that build emotions as owners walk past them. "Our houses are all about light. Light and water,” McClean told the Orange County Register in 2017.

Beyonce and Jay-Z's 120-million Bel Air Paradise built into the hillside with wrap-around floor-to-ceiling bulletproof glass walls and pools on every level. It's a white maze of angles that can be seen from space.

Anyone with enough money can build something big and gaudy–what makes Paul McClean stand apart is that he can design a 100,000 square foot mansion that still feels like a comfortable home.

Consider this your primer on how to live like an NBA Champion. Players like Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Tony Parker have not only won rings, they've collected some pretty awesome properties as well.

If you want to be the best, you've got to beat the best, but when it comes to living large - these champion ballers set the bar really high. Here's what you need to do to live like an All-Star.

Drive Up to Your Tuscan Villa like Andre Iguodala

The Golden State Warriors Star picked up this Tuscan charmer in 2017. The wide stone driveway leads up to a handsome home that could have been plucked right out of a vineyard countryside (this one happens to be across from a bike path).

There's a veranda leading out to a resort-like pool and spa combo in the back. This mansion in the old world classic style fits the Warriors champion swingman who knows the difference between just getting rich versus creating life long wealth.

Get Married in a Modern Castle Like Dwayne Wade

When Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union tied the knot in 2014, they did it in the biggest way possible - by having the ceremony in a modern Miami castle surrounded by a huge moat!

This one-of-a-kind Florida estate boasts 8 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, and water all the way around. Constructed in 2007 and designed by famed architect Charles Sieger, Chateau Artisan is the place for a hall of fame baller to settle down with his famous bride.

Inside, the twenty-foot high ceiling and gothic chandeliers will make any husband and wife feel like a newly crowned king and queen.

Summer Vacation on Your Super Yacht like Tony Parker

A Turkey-based builder made this ridiculously sleek yacht for former NBA champ Tony Parker. This luxurious boat has six cabins, four decks and a beach club that opens out onto a wide swimming platform.

If Mr. Parker or his wife should require anything other than looking dope on this amazing yacht - it comes with a six-member crew to tend to their every need.

Eat in Your Custom Chef's Kitchen like LeBron James

LeBron is sitting out of the playoffs this year (which he hates) but at least he has more time to enjoy epic meals in his marble-covered kitchen.

Natural French oak parquet court floors and smooth Italian Calcutta marble form the perfect luxury duo for serving up some of LeBron's favorite meals - even if he's just dunking his spoon in a big bowl of cereal.

These NBA Champs have learned how to win big in the playoffs and off the court.

Just like the balmy weather that enshrouds it, Los Angles is a real estate market that is hot year-round. Recently, the industry’s thermometer has been spiking – think record high asking prices and ballooning interest rates on home loans. With this, a swell of opinions has rushed to dissect the current state of the upscale residential segment.

To make sense of all the latest trends in Los Angeles’ real estate, Haute Residence talked to Lisa Optican, Luxury Estates Director at Compass.

Prices in the Los Angeles market are soaring up, reaching record levels. Some experts say this cues to a healthy recovery from the Great Recession, others express worry of possibly another bubble. What’s your take on the rising prices?

I think the soaring prices in Los Angeles are a reflection of the shortage of inventory. Los Angeles is in a unique position because it draws all types of business and commerce, the weather is stunning, and there is a limited amount of quality homes in prime neighborhoods. I do think, however, that some of the current prices are exceedingly high and until sellers get a bit more realistic about how much the property is truly worth, those properties will sit on the market.

Some recent reports have shown a slight decline in the number of listings in 2017 and the first half of 2017 despite the increased profits from selling, showing that some sellers are not rushing to sell, and keeping prices high. What is your take on this? What could stimulate more potential sellers to list their homes?

Week after week I hear people contemplating putting their houses on the market to sell and then they ask the question, "Where am I going to go?" Sure, they can make a lot of money by selling right now, but they will also have to spend a lot of money to buy something if they want to stay in Los Angeles. Sellers have to be exposed to what else is out there for them...perhaps there is a neighborhood that they never considered; perhaps they no longer need the size of the house they are in; or the size of the lot.

What is your advice for those looking to sell their properties?

Be smart and realistic about your property. A good agent will be able to not only talk to you about the comps, but will also be able to tell you what the present-day competition is, should a seller put their house on the market. A seller has to imagine that any buyer looking at their property is also looking to see what else is available. How does this property compare to the other properties available for sale? Size of house, size of lot, location, style, amenities...all of these factors have to be weighed so a seller can accurately price their house.

What about advice to buyers, who are also saddled by spiked interest rates on mortgages?

Buyers have to be savvy about their financial picture. The best plan is to meet with financial advisors and mortgage brokers before searching for homes so that they are aware of what they can afford and what the payments will look like in the future. I always tell people that buying a house should not cause absolute financial stress. If the numbers are not working and it becomes a stretch, I recommend pausing and reconsidering a different price point.

In a slew of cities, including LA, homes, today, often sell for above the asking price. How can a buyer navigate such a dynamic to ensure his or her proposal leads to a deal?

Working with an agent who has good relationships is critical. It's also about telling a story and making your clients stand out in a personal and emotional way. Of course, a good agent will also point out the strength of the buyers finances.

What about sellers?

A seller should be very clear in what they are looking for and an experienced agent will be able to sort through the offers to evaluate the likelihood of a deal closing. Sometimes it’s not all about the highest price, sometimes the strength of the buyer is in the details of the offer.

What are your expectations about the market dynamic the second half of 2018?

I think the remainder of 2018 will continue to be strong but I do think we will start to a see a shift in the high-end luxury market as more properties $20 million and higher continue to come on the market. As it presently stands, for example, there are 48 homes on the market (not including off-market) priced at $20,000,000 and higher in Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and the Sunset Strip and more are expected to come on.

Few real estate agents attain – or rather, toil for – the chance to represent some of the country’s most iconic properties. Lisa Optican is among them. Her masterful representation and sale of Marilyn Monroe’s former house lunged not only the property in the spotlight, but also Optican. And yet, the deal is a single coup in her stellar career, which now occupies the position of Luxury Estates Director with forward-thinking real estate company Compass in Los Angeles.

Haute Residence chatted with Optican to learn more about her ascent into real estate from property development and law, her ability to do it all and her insights into the city she has always called home.

You were a property developer before going into real estate brokering. How did you make the switch and what insights from property development you took with you?

Developing properties allows you to see a deal from all perspectives. I understand what developers are assessing when looking at a property and I understand the concepts and terms of construction and building because I have been through it.

I actually stopped developing properties when the market/economy took a downturn in 2008/2009 and I went back to practice law until I had children. I was always looking at properties and giving friends and family advice about purchases/sales so I decided when my oldest child turned one to make it official and get my real estate license.

How does your background as a lawyer inform your real estate career?

It's invaluable. I have a true understanding of contracts and a comprehension of confidentiality and ethics that I find put clients at ease. Also being a litigator, I know how to do research, comprehend voluminous data quickly, and negotiate really well.

You sold Marilyn Monroe’s former residence in Brentwood, which received world-wide coverage. Tell us more about how you came to represent the property, the sale and its impact on your career?

The Marilyn Monroe house is a special property and I was honored to represent it. I had to be incredibly strategic with how I brought that property to market (in terms of marketing, pricing, etc.). I knew that there would be global interest in the property because I recalled when it was on the market many years earlier. I also knew that my client was very protective of the property and did not want the coverage to be salacious in any way. I created a strategy, executed it, and we had three offers within a few days. The property ultimately sold for $350,000 over the asking price.

What is the most important lesson you have learned in real estate?

Stay positive.

What are some of your duties as a Luxury Estates Director with Compass? What are your secrets of juggling a busy schedule?

Compass is an incredible company and collectively we are in the process of working on how to make a bigger impact in the luxury market in Los Angeles. We have some of the best resources any real estate company has and we have exceptional staff and agents.

As for juggling a busy schedule, I have no secrets at all. I have no assistants, no team, and two kids. I just have to be incredibly organized about my day!

LA is a coveted, global market with strong luxury real estate. What sets the city apart from other major destinations like New York and Miami, for instance?

Los Angeles is an incredible destination for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, its location and terrain allow someone to be close to the ocean or up in the hills and you can have land or you can have views. If you want both, you can have that too. Secondly, Los Angeles attracts people from all industries. We are not a city that is solely dependent on one type of industry. Any given day I will interact with clients who are in finance, fashion, entertainment, law, medicine, public relations, etc. Thirdly, the weather. Let’s not forget that we in Los Angeles are blessed with beautiful weather all year round.

You are an LA native. How has the LA real estate market changed over the years?

The actual look of L.A. has changed dramatically in terms of all the development in the past few decades. Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Hollywood Hills, Brentwood and the Palisades have all really changed in terms of their aesthetic. It has actually become difficult to find some of the older, large estates as most of them have been purchased and torn down to build bigger homes.

What are your expectations for this year? Are there any trends you are paying close attention to?

I think the market will continue to be strong for the year but I do think some sellers might need to be a bit more realistic in terms of their pricing. I have noticed a lot of properties that were priced too high to begin with and are starting to either reduce or the properties are selling for way less than the ask price. I also really listen to buyers. For so many years it seemed everyone wanted a view. Now every call I get is about wanting more land.

The city of Beverly Hills abounds with exclusive luxury real estate. For decades it has earned a reputation as one of the country’s premier real estate destinations. Located on Los Angeles’ westside, Beverly Hills has a plethora of mansions in unique neighborhoods, from the classic luxury of The Flats to Beverly Park’s soaring urban and natural views. This prestige has earned the city a place within the “Platinum Triangle,” along with the two Los Angeles neighborhoods of Holmby Hills and Bel Air.

Beverly Hills is advantageously located within the Los Angeles Basin. It’s a short drive from beach cities like Malibu, Santa Monica, and Marina Del Rey to the west, and to the east are business districts like Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, and Mid-Wilshire. The city experiences an abundance of sunshine while its proximity to the coast provides pleasant ocean breezes. Beverly Hills isn’t just located close to amazing amenities; the city itself boasts world-class dining and shopping in its bustling central business district along Wilshire Boulevard.

Classic Southern California Mediterranean Luxury in The Flats

Beverly Hills has a long history of luxurious homes. From the early 20th century after its founders built the Beverly Hills Hotel, this centrally-located city has attracted some of the most opulent homes in Southern California. Mansions like Greenacres, the Beverly House, and Greystone Mansion are just a few of the many famous residences dotting the foothills.

North of Beverly Hills’ bustling central business district, across the world-famous Sunset Boulevard, is a historic, high-end neighborhood known as The Flats. One of the oldest parts of the city, the lots in The Flats are typically smaller than the newer properties to the north. While the properties are smaller they feature some of the most appealing, historic residential architecture in the region.

Recently sold, the property at 706 North Canon Drive is an exception with its “double lot” of 1.2 acres and an expansive, park-like yard. The home was designed in a Mediterranean style by acclaimed architect Peter Choate and has plenty of curb appeal thanks to lush landscaping across the property.

Many of the most exclusive homes in Beverly Hills rarely hit the market. That’s certainly the case with this gorgeous Mediterranean-influenced home on North Canon. With its large lot size, inspired architectural design, and prestigious address within Beverly Hills, it’s no surprise that this is only the second time in 60 years it’s been for sale.

Privacy and Modernity in Beverly Park

Those who value privacy above all should look no further than the hillside neighborhood of Beverly Park. While not technically within Beverly Hills city limits, this Los Angeles neighborhood carries a Beverly Hills Post Office address within the iconic 90210 zip code. Just south of the peaks of the Santa Monica Mountain Range and immediately to the west of the expansive Franklin Canyon Park, Beverly Park is one of the most secluded neighborhoods of the city.

Lovers of modern architecture, great views, and privacy without having to sacrifice the comforts of the city will find 72 Beverly Park Drive to be the ideal home. It was designed by Richard Landry of Landry Design Group, who gave it clean lines, an open floor plan, and large glass walls for a contemporary appearance.

72 Beverly Park has 11 bedrooms and 18 bathrooms over its expansive 20,000 square feet of space. In addition to the main residence there is a 6,100-square-foot guest house connected by a steel-columned bridge. The structures sit on a nearly seven-acre lot featuring a paddle tennis court, large fountain, pool and spa, and gazebo. Verdant lawns and mature palms give the property an appealing appearance that complements its modern architecture.

Towering Views Atop the Santa Monica Mountains

Not far from the historic grounds of Greystone Mansion, this Beverly Hills property on Ridgecrest Drive sits high atop its own mountain peak. Perched on a ridge within the Santa Monica Mountains, it shares a property line with the famous residence built by Edward Doheny for his son. The Ridgecrest Drive property is currently developed with a pair of residences; according to Crest Development it might support the construction of up to three additional 30,000-square-foot homes.

The secluded property is at the end of a long, private drive and surrounded by large metal gates. Despite this privacy the estate is just a short drive from Sunset Boulevard and the city below. At nearly seven acres, this property offers plenty of outdoor space with lush landscaping, a swimming pool, and a tennis court.

The luxurious amenities of both homes on Ridgecrest Drive are world-class, but perhaps the most impressive feature is the panoramic views from this private mountaintop location itself. From the top of this ridge, iconic neighborhoods like Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, Miracle Mile, and the Sunset Strip can be seen. Further to the east beyond the skyscrapers of downtown, the towering, often snow-capped San Gabriel Mountains and Mount Baldy loom in the distance.

After a multi-billion overhaul, the Fairmont Century Plaza is to soon open its doors and claim the spot of Los Angeles’ most vibrant and pedestrian-friendly development.

Fairmont, which operates some of the most lavish resorts around the world, oversaw the redesign of the historic 1966 Century Plaza Hotel, Minoru Yamasaki’s mid-century masterpiece which regularly hosted Hollywood A-listers. Famed developer Michael Rosenfeld, CEO of Woodridge Capital Partners, preserved Yamasaki’s original vision, while infusing it with an ultra-modern, uber-luxurious appeal.

The developer, Michael Rosenfeld engaged a multitude of acclaimed firms, including Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, Gensler and Marmol Radziner, to create a smart, sustainable and social enclave that fosters a luxury lifestyle.

“It is a rare and special privilege to work with the world’s finest planners, architects, and designers to transform an icon of historic Los Angeles into the centerpiece of the future of our city,” Rosenfeld said in a press statement last year. “The importance of this project necessitated bringing together this great team, commensurate with the area’s need to have the best of everything, from design to finishes to functionality. The Century Plaza Hotel, with its boutiques, restaurants, and residences, will set a new standard for the Westside and the way we will live for decades to come.”

Only minutes away from Rodeo Drive and Beverly Hills, the renovated five-star hotel boasts 400 rooms, a gourmet café, an American brasserie, a rooftop bar and a 14,000-square-foot spa among other amenities. The old-day charm of the spaces has been preserved through Yabu Pushelberg’s careful blend of subtle references and modern details. The crown jewel of the hotel remains its legendary ballroom, dubbed “the Western White House,” which has hosted every sitting president since Lyndon B. Johnson.

Among the novel additions to the Fairmont Century Plaza are the twin towers that loom some 535 feet over the hotel. The glassy convex structures harbor exquisite residences that evoke subdued Hollywood glamor. Each one boasts a fireplace – a rarity in LA, cutting-edge kitchens, stone vanities and, of course, breath-taking views of the City of Angles. Residents also have access to a state-of-the-art pool, fitness center, steam/sauna with his & her locker rooms, yoga studio, Pilates studio, outdoor dining with BBQ, children’s playroom, business center, wine cellars, screening room, game room, library, private dining room, lounge, and a banquet-sized dining room with catering kitchen.

“These owners are looking for turn-key living,” said Mary Ann Osborn, Managing Director of Sales for the Century Plaza Residences, in a press statement. “They want the convenience of estate living, vertically.”

The serenity and opulence of Fairmont Century Plaza crystalize in a kinetic head sculpture by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, which seems to nod to a future where the public and private interweave. “I am trying always to create a place where people could meet and share dreams,” said the developer.

One such place, for sure, is the Fairmont Century Plaza.

LA an ideal location for luxury real estate homes with high-end architectural designs & amenities of a big city in close proximity.

When it comes to luxury real estate, Los Angeles is one of the most unique cities in the world. This huge city nestled between mountain peaks and the Pacific Ocean is home to a vast range of upscale neighborhoods. The second most populated urban area in the United States, Southern California has many naturally blessings like year-round temperate weather and breathtaking natural scenery. These natural assets alone are enough to make the region a great place to purchase a luxury home.

The region has captured popular imagination with Hollywood broadcasting its opulent mansions perched atop hillsides that overlook the ocean or city below. While the homes dotting the Santa Monica Mountains are certainly a big piece of the luxury real estate picture in Los Angeles, the city offers so many more options for the luxury home buyer.

From the oceanfront condos of the beach communities to the bustling urban core of Downtown Los Angeles, there are no other American cities that offer as many upscale lifestyle options as the Southland.

Incomparable Architectural Diversity

Los Angeles is still one of the world’s newest mega-cities. As such, the housing stock of the Los Angeles area leans towards relatively contemporary designs. Some older homes in the Victorian, Queen Anne, and Eastlake styles remain in the oldest neighborhoods of the city like West Adams, Lincoln Heights, and Angelino Heights, but most of the residential architecture is built with newer styles.

Some of the most common single-family residential architectural in Los Angeles includes Modernism, Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, and Postmodern. Along with these modern styles, some residences have been built as an homage to classic styles from other parts of the world like Spanish Revival, Tudor, and Colonial.

There are few regions as architecturally-diverse as Southern California and the contrast is even observable at the neighborhood level. The famously exclusive neighborhood of Bel Air is a perfect example, as this luxurious modern estate with panoramic views is just a short drive from a classically-designed French Regency style residence. No matter which way your taste or preferences in a home lean, Los Angeles will surely provide what you are looking for.

Amenities of a Big City With The Privacy of Countryside Villa

Unlike other major United States cities like New York City or San Francisco, which are squeezed by land constraints, the younger city of Los Angeles offers single family home living in the heart of the city. From Brentwood to the Hollywood Hills, there are several neighborhoods that offer the privacy you expect from a countryside estate, but are just minutes from the hustle and bustle of the city. In Los Angeles, you can have it all: breathtaking views, room to stretch your legs, peace and quiet, all while being just a 10-minute drive from the country’s best dining, shopping, arts, and entertainment destinations.

The famous city of Beverly Hills is a perfect example of this unique urban profile that Los Angeles offers. This independent hamlet is in the heart of Los Angeles’ west side, making it convenient to both Santa Monica, Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles. Home to the iconic Rodeo Drive within the city’s downtown area, colloquially known as the “Golden Triangle,” this city hosts the offices of some of the most powerful professionals in the entertainment industry.

Off of the main thoroughfare of Wilshire Boulevard, high-end fashion retailers and celebrity chef-featured restaurants call this bustling urban district home. Despite all of this urban energy, less than two miles to the north is some of the most expensive real estate in the country. From The Flats north of Santa Monica Boulevard to the canyon-hugging mansions north of Sunset Boulevard, these neighborhoods are not just luxurious, they are serene.

Room To Build In a Major Metropolis

The unique geography of the Los Angeles area has not only created some of the most unique neighborhoods and breathtaking urban views in the world. It has also made development difficult for decades in certain areas, leaving places in prime neighborhoods available for development with modern technology. While most major urban cities in the United States do not have any room left for your own single-family home close to the city center, in Southern California you can actually build your dream home from the ground-up.

A perfect example of the types of properties available for development in Los Angeles is 13187 Chalon Road in Brentwood Country Estates. Measuring over an acre, this property has a park-like setting along a winding hillside road, giving it the ambiance of a secluded country estate. Despite the ability to build your own home from scratch in such a seemingly isolated area, it is just a short drive south to Sunset Boulevard and Brentwood’s business district along San Vincente Boulevard.

With enough lush greenery to trick anyone into thinking it was a scene out of Wizard of Oz, this California oceanfront home seems more like the Wizard of Oz’s beach house. The westward-facing home is optimized for luxury and sunshine in all aspects, with rooms and design built to fit everything from elegant cocktail parties amongst friends to quiet rooms with a décor and design both modern and hygge inspired.

Having already bought and sold Emily Blunt and John Krasinski’s home in Los Angeles last year, Kendall Jenner is no stranger to good real estate investments in premiere pads. Just recently, the supermodel bought herself Charlie Sheen’s former home in Beverly Hills, a fitting choice for the noted partier to keep it in the family when it comes to homes that have seen their fare share of soirees.

For just under 9 million, Jenner now owns the Spanish style home featuring a tennis court, pool, playground, and five bedrooms. The home is a beautiful blend of modern and contemporary elements in finishing with a rustic and classic Spanish vibe in the décor. With exposed beams on the ceilings and a lighter wood used throughout the home, it’s the perfect environment for someone who jet sets all over the world to want to come back and feel a bit more cozy in. In the backyard, the home also has views sweeping through the mountain range nearly to the ocean. No luxury detail was spared in the building of the space too with a shower about the size of a walk in closet and fixtures in the bathroom built with state-of-the-art equipment. For someone like Jenner constantly on the go between gigs, this is the ultimate pad to fall back to at the end of the day.

Los Angeles is full of all kinds of eclectic neighborhoods like up and coming modern ones in downtown LA to the lap of luxury in Beverly Hills. For those looking for a more Greenwich Village-like neighborhood with a bohemian side, one need not look further than Los Feliz. On the Eastern side of the city, Los Feliz is full of coffee houses, bookshops, vintage movie theaters, and knick-knack selling boutiques. To the northern end of the neighborhood though, the quaint little bungalows on tree lined streets rise up in the hills into palatial estates. On North Vermont Avenue, one of the most historic residences in the neighborhood just hit the market at $8.9 million.

The Van Griffith estate, build in 1925, is a compound almost as famous as the titular Griffith Park just north of the home. Named for the parks benefactor, Griffith J. Griffith, the estate is mere minutes away from the park to the north and the suburban main street of Los Feliz to the south. The home, listed by Howard Lorey and RSR Real Estate, and working with luxury real estate boutique Nourmand and Associates, the six bedroom, five bathroom home is really remarkable.

“The Van Griffith Estate is truly a one-of-a-kind property that boasts spectacular views of downtown Los Angeles, the Observatory and Griffith Park,” Lorey said. “It also features beautifully appointed grounds completed by a loggia with an outdoor fireplace, private gardens and an expansive lawn.”

The spacious grounds that sit behind a picturesque gate in keeping with the neighborhoods theme and design trends feature trees and plants all around. Inside the home, an eat-in kitchen, speakeasy, rooftop deck, and luxury fixtures in all the bathrooms make this old home built for modern luxury lifestyles. For anyone looking to have access to the hip, cool kid parts of Los Angeles where the best bars and restaurants sit, without having to sacrifice any luxury quality, this historic home is the perfect match.

LA real estate is back with a winner. While the City of Angels may not have the textured, picturesque skyline of New York City, or the quaint, cobblestone streets of London and Paris, get high enough in the mountains and ever home comes with breathtaking views. The prime new example of which, is Beverley Hill’s 1251 Shadow Hill Way.

Clocking in just shy of $30,000,000, this contemporary home boasts 5 bedrooms, six bathrooms over 11,000 square feet. The property is making waves though in traditional LA home in the area for its unique, indoor/outdoor design, created by Joseph Ferrugio. A series of pocket doors are hidden away and can be revealed for any shifts in the weather. Panoramic views cover all the way across Los Angeles, past Downtown, and even to the ocean. The home also features a pool, floating walnut stairs, beautiful counter surfaces, a putting green, and theater. Secret agent level security systems also protect the house, with fingerprint access to the front gates and quartz walkway to the front door. Getting around the house is also easy, thanks to an elevator with a resin chamber.

For those entertaining, the space also features a bar directly under the swimming pool, that has a viewing glass window to show the people swimming above, as well as a walk in wine cellar, and living green walls to add a flare of color to the space. Listings agents for the property are Mauricio Umansky, Jon Grauman and Brendan Fitzpatrick of The Agency, along with Sally Forster Jones and Lisa Sockolov of John Aaroe Group.
