In 2014, media personality Kim Kardashian and renowned rapper Kanye West tied the knot becoming an iconic pop culture couple. Soon after, the two spent a whopping $23 million for a mansion in Hidden Hills, California. Throughout the years, the expansive space served as home to the celebrity duo as they raised their four young children, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. However, earlier this year, the reality star filed for divorce after nearly seven years of marriage. The two currently share joint legal and physical custody of their children. Following news of their split, it is reported that Kardashian would be staying in their Hidden Hills residence nearby her famous family clan in Calabasas.

Los Angeles records confirm that Kardashian is now the role owner of the once shared Hidden Hills home. She purchased West’s share of the estate for $23 million total. When the two first acquired the property, they proceeded to gut and rebuild the entire space from the ground up over the course of six years. West spearheaded the design project to showcase a sense of stark minimalism and bright simplicity. Of the $23 million Kardashian paid, $20 million accounts for the property itself while the remaining $3 million is the price of the interior contents, including art and furniture.

Since 2018, West has made routine trips between his Los Angeles residence and his Wyoming ranch while spending the majority of 2020 on the ranch. This reportedly was one of the reasons contributing to the estranged pair going their separate ways. West continued to stay in his ranch in Cody, Wyoming, until he unexpectedly listed on the market earlier this month.

Kim and Kanye paid $20 million for their sprawling Los Angeles home. The 8,000 square-foot house rests on three acres, boasts its own private vineyard, a 1,000 square-foot entertainment pavilion and two pools. The interior of the home includes eight bedrooms, a three-island kitchen, his-and-hers master baths and a walk-in closet that houses fashion's best designs for the iconic, reality show queen and king of hip-hop.

But what makes the Kardashian-West home such a memorable masterpiece? The couple's impeccable interior design style that brags understated sophistication: sexy, classy and contemporary. With high-end tastes and following only a few interior design rules, Kim and Kayne assembled the perfect home. And it's nothing less than what you'd expect from a Kardashian-West collaboration.

Here are the top three interior design rules the power couple followed and you can too.

Monochromatic Chic

First rule. Use one paint color for the interior.

One neutral wall color is all you need in your home, throughout the entire house. And Kim and Kayne selected shades of white. Why? That color brightens and enhances the living space in contrast to any bespoke wood elements, which here, are the ceiling beams. The only drama happening in this house is intentional. Design drama at its best.

Specifically, in the twosome's living room, the unicolor creates an airy and soft atmosphere. Custom shelves holding photographs also match the wood of the beams above for a neutral effect. Kim builds the room around statement pieces like that circular coffee table and black-white rug so that everything works seamlessly together, and a fluidity is then created throughout the room and home.

Comfortable Chic

Second rule is to create a comfortable chic ambience.

The mogul couple's interior home is outfitted in a "transitional" style of design, which means an informal version of traditional design with contemporary-cool and cozy elements incorporated throughout. The color palette of the entire interior remains neutral with tones of white and gray. Black accents are used to anchor the spaces and natural wood tones warm up the otherwise blanched color scheme.

Much of the home’s pieces are also vintage, like the reclaimed wood, and others are custom-made. According to Kim, Kanye "literally flew to Belgium to find wood for [the] kitchen, and he flew to Fiji once to get fabric."

Rethinking your wallpapered dining room? Instead, think about implementing a sense of lived-in, casual chicness similar to Kim's. It's quite obvious that Kim wants her guests to feel instantly at ease, but that casualness is not to be confused with a lack of effort or care. From Kim's use of a monochromatic color scheme, that grand chandelier, to the minimal art on the wall and simple flowering plant on the table, her easy-breezy interior look can surely be had.

Third rule is to keep your design style contemporary. Classic, contemporary chic.
