In 2018, popstar Ariana Grande and comedian Pete Davidson were involved in a whirlwind romance when they began dating in May, got engaged in the weeks following, and moved into a luxurious apartment complex in West Chelsea. The chic space seemed fitting for the public duo as the building was deemed one of the most luxurious in New York City. The property had reportedly been on and off the market since 2015 with an unwavering asking price of $16 million. Since the celebrity couple split in October of 2018, Grande has said “thank u, next” to her former relationship and residence. She has now amassed an impressive real estate portfolio with contemporary mansion in the Hollywood Hills, a $9 million Bird Streets home, and a $6.7 million Montecito estate purchased from Ellen DeGeneres. Recently, the two-time Grammy winning vocalist tied the knot with real estate agent Dalton Gomez in an intimate ceremony at her Montecito home.

Built in the winter of 2017, the New York City apartment complex formerly home to Grande and Davidson was designed by the late renowned architect Dame Zaha Hadid. The lavish custom decor consists of 10-foot-wide motorized windows, 10-foot-high ceilings, distinctive curved glass, and lacquered wall paneling. With 4,023 square feet of living space, Grande’s former unit includes five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The interior layout presents an ultramodern kitchen equipped with double dishwashers, double refrigerators, a wine refrigerator, a steam oven, and a sculptural island with beveled marble. Leading from the contemporary kitchen, the home offers a spacious family room and entertainment area with a bright and airy atmosphere. Stepping outside, the unit also features a 1,361 square foot terrace with picturesque views of the Empire State Building and bustling cityscape below.

The extravagant apartment complex with 39 units presents a lifestyle of privacy and luxury. Additional amenities consist of a skylit swimming pool, fitness center, spa, and the city’s first private IMAX theater. The price of this property also includes two parking spaces worth $700,000 each. Located directly over the High Line in West Chelsea, this lavish residence is mere moments from Hudson River Park as well as a multitude of shopping and dining options in the city’s most coveted neighborhood.

This property was listed with Million Dollar Listing: New York star Steve Gold. The buyer was represented by Phillip Salem of Compass.

For decades the New York skyline had certain landmarks which made it distinctive: The Empire State Building, The Chrysler Builder, The Domino Sugar Factory, to name a few. But, as the song says, everything must change and that includes skylines. And my, how it is changing. For every resolute, limestone covered century-old financial and corporate institution that made up the fabric of NYC real estate there is now some weird angled, reflective, cantilevered piece of architecture that looks like it was dreamed up by skateboarders looking for their most radical rides. Here are a few of the new school of New York City structures, sure to make you do a double take.

Via 57 West

First, it’s a tetrahedron. Digest that for a minute. Second, what more could you expect from Danish wiz Bjarke Ingels, the architect who has made it his business to defy convention? Now based in NYC, Time Magazine named him one of the 100 Most Influential People. We can see why.

325 Kent Avenue

The Domino Sugar Factory was an iconic building on the Williamsburg waterfront but destined to be equally distinctive is the rental complex shaped like a (square) donut. Owned by Two Trees Management and designed by SHoP Architects, the 522 Unit luxury rental was completed last year and occupied by July 2017.

These two structures, located at 626 First Avenue in Murray Hill, kind of look like two cartoon buildings shaking hands or even dancing. That’s because a three-level sky bridge connects the two. Those innovative boffins at SHoP Architects are responsible for designing the copper clad structures, which combined contain 761 units.

520 West 28th St by Zaha Hadid

Shimmering, futuristic and with more curves than a sunny day at the Copacabana Beach, this is the first and only NYC project by the late celebrated architect Zaha Hadid. Located near the High Line in Manhattan, reported celebrity residents include Sting and Ariana Grande. The building contains 39 spacious units over 11 floors and was completed in 2016.

56 Leonard St

Leonard St as a whole has been garnering a lot of interest recently because of the number of luxury condos taking to the skies in pricey Tribeca. This glass, cantilevered beauty was completed in 2016 after being conceived almost a decade earlier. The penthouse is the most expensive condo south of midtown, selling for $47.87 million last year. The building has 145 units over a cloudbusting 60 floors.

Solar Curve, High Line

Still being constructed, this innovative piece of architecture by Chicago based architects, Studio Gang is known as the Solar Curve. It is prismatic in shape to take advantage of the sun’s moving position in the sky to heat the structure, while also benefited from the green space at the High Line.

400 Park Avenue South

Designed by Frenchman Christian de Portzamparc, over a decade ago, this is a jagged punkrocker of a building, jutting defiantly into the Manhattan skyline slightly north of Madison Park. But there’s nothing to rebellious about the pricey condos here which are completely sold out.

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson are couple goals for everyone dreaming of that whirlwind summer romance. The singer and the SNL funnyman started dating in May, got engaged a few weeks later, and purchased a swank West Chelsea apartment–all before July even started.

Pete told Jimmy Fallon on a recent Tonight Show appearance, "I feel like I won a contest," when asked about being engaged to Ariana. She has already teased a new song, "Pete," about, "this love that I'm in."

The happy couple, who have been pictured lately shopping and holding hands around New York, paid $16 million for a chevron-shaped condo on the High Line.

One of the last finished buildings of the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid, the chic condo is all curves. Ariana and Pete can cook together in their highly-curated, top-of-the-line kitchen, or watch Pete's favorite flick, "Good Time," starring Robert Pattinson, in the private IMAX theatre. It is a cinematic marvel for any apartment to have. It reportedly cost a half-million-dollars to construct.

The pair will have plenty of room for wedding gifts too: there's on-site storage inspired by a Swiss bank vault. Plus, in a city where keeping a car can be a challenge, the integrated parking deck is a luxury in itself.

In a class of high-end condos where promoting wellness is an amenity theme, this building includes a juice bar, fitness center, and 75-foot sky-lit pool. There is also a private reservable spa suite that may interest this amorous pair.

Ariana and Pete's unit has five bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths. The master connects to an en-suite walk-in closet with dressing room. The master bath is done in Nero Marquinia marble with a freestanding six-foot sculptural bathtub.

The white oak hardwoods add warmth to the main living area, while the 9-foot retractable wall-to-wall windows provide those artsy high-line views. This boutique building appears to have everything two young trend-setters need.

Cynics may decry the speed of Ariana and Pete's engagement–the camera-ready PDA, her $93,000 ring, or the tribute ink they've gotten for each other at Chinatown’s No Idols Tattoo Shop–but they've both seen darker days and been hurt before. What's different this time? Laughter was the spark of their attraction–according to the word on the street.

Is it crazy to move into a space-age luxury condo with someone you've only dated for two months? Maybe. But as the Spanish poet, Pedro Calderon de la Barca, once said, "When love is not madness, it is not love."

There's no denying that there is a shortage of space in New York City. Which is why James Ramsey, the principle designer at the New York-based RAAD Studio, has proposed an underground park to make use of "the historical bowels of the city." Ramsey and his team have proposed an ambitious plan for a park on the 1.5-acre abandoned trolley terminal located under Delancey Street on the Lower East Side. The park would have limited lighting--enough lighting to see things and grow plants--and will have the essence of Central Park.

In March, Ramsey and the Lowline’s co-founder, Dan Barasch, launched a Kickstarter campaign that raised $155,000 to fund the development of the remote skylights and construct a fully functional life-size installation to show to the community and prove to the MTA that not only is their idea popular, but it’s feasible as well.

Ramsey told The Architect's Newspaper: “We’ve got this found archeological space that no one knows about. There’s this component of mystery to it that New York still does have all these secrets you can explore that you can’t find on Yelp. Going down into [the Lowline] invokes that sense of discovery and mystery as well as this element of archeological adventure, like you’re exploring a ruin. I want to capture the idea that you can explore not just horizontally but vertically. It should be a jungle gym for adults where you can do a little rambling."

Ramsey estimates that if funding and work proceeds as planned, the project will be complete and open to the public by 2016.
