Whether you are building, remodeling or redecorating, Riese Design can transform your home or business into a beautiful space to call your own. Riese design commits to provide satisfaction in each project while relaying a level of trust with clients in order to grant them peace of mind. You can rest assured the results Chasity Centeno, Principal at Riese Design, delivers will be the results you expect.

Chasity recently spoke to Haute Design about the opportunity Riese Design was given to participate in the hit TV show, George to the Rescue.

Haute Design: Congratulations on the big TV announcement! Tell us a little bit about how this came about. When were you working on these projects and filming the series?

Chasity Centeno: NBC reached out to me directly, about six years ago, when I first started. I am currently filming my eighth episode. We recently filmed 'Maggie's Mission' in the summer, while simultaneously juggling about 15 clients. We usually do one a year but this year we had the honor and pleasure of filming three episodes. One episode was filmed in the winter, and the other two were filmed in the summer and fall, respectively.

HD: For those who might not be aware of George to the Rescue, could you briefly explain the premise of the show?

CC: George to the Rescue is a home improvement show, which airs on NBC, and focuses on home renovations and makeovers for deserving families. Contractors, designers and tradespeople alike, donate their services to help out for the greater good of the family, with one main goal in mind - providing a space that heightens the functionality of the home by accommodating the corresponding family's wants and needs.

HD: Was this one of the more gratifying experiences of your career?

CC: Each and every episode that I work on, and the families I help, are gratifying all the same. Design is more than just making a space pretty. Design is about changing someone's life for the better, in the most important place they could ever be - their home.

HD: How much did these projects differ from your other projects?

CC: The scope of the project wasn't all that different from other projects that I take on. The biggest difference is the timeline where we squeeze what would be a three-month project into about four weeks. All the products need to be purchased, inspected, delivered, designed and installed in about a month's timeframe from start to finish.

HD: How and when can we tune in to watch the episodes?

CC: The next episode will air Saturday, October 9th, at 9:30am and 7pm ET in the greater New York area on NBC. The show is nationally syndicated. Our 8th episode, which we are filming this fall, is set to air in the Spring of 2022.

HD: Would you be willing to do more television appearances on similar programs?

CC: Yes, as long as it is for a good cause!

HD: What was your biggest takeaway from this experience?

CC: The reward you get from helping someone is not always about a dollar sign, it's more about what's at the heart of why you do what you do.

HGTV stars Erin and Ben Nappier took to Instagram this week to share some exciting news with their fans. The couple who put Laurel, Mississippi on the map with their popular TV show Home Town, recently announced the hit show will be returning for its sixth season.

Home Town has been a fan favorite show on HGTV for five seasons. It centers around Erin and Ben Nappier, a couple who were born and raised in the are and appreciate the beauty of their surroundings but feel that others do not. In order to repair this, they remodel homes for their community and slowly but surely remind folks how great and gorgeous their home town really is.

Luckily for HGTV fans, the good news does not end here. In the meantime of the success of Home Town, Ben launched his own show called Ben's Workshop. Ben is avid woodworker and carpenter and while any true Home Town fan knows this well enough, Ben's Workshop allows Ben to really spotlight his favorite passion. In addition to Home Town, Ben's Workshop has also been renewed for another season.

Erin's caption read as follows on Instagram:

"We can FINALLY tell you officially, #HGTVHomeTown season 6 and #BensWorkshop season 2 are in production and coming in 2022.
I am so proud of you, @scotsman.co!"

@scotsman.co is Ben's woodwork company as well as his instagram handle.

While an official date for the following season of the hit TV shows have not been revealed, this news is plenty to tide fans over until next year.

Cineflix, which produces Property Brothers on HGTV, is still facing a lawsuit from a couple who appeared on the TV show and felt “bamboozled and tricked” after discovering multiple issues with their costly home renovation.

Despite Drew and Jonathan Scott’s aim to help couples unearth their dream homes using “state-of-the-art” programs for construction and remodeling, the production company behind Property Brothers is now facing a lawsuit from a Las Vegas couple who allegedly found several problems with their home renovation, which was featured on an episode of the hit reality HGTV series.

Paul and Mindy King told KTNY that they’re suing Cineflix (the company that produces Property Brothers) and the local contractor, Villa Construction, that worked on their home after discovering wires left exposed, uneven baseboards, improperly attached doors, and a number of renovations not executed according to code. The brothers themselves were not named in the lawsuit.

To clarify, in order for the Scott brothers to work with local contractors on the properties featured on the show, the homeowners in each episode must take care of the expenses first.

The Kings paid over $193,000 to Cineflix for their home remodel in 2019 after hearing about a Property Brothers casting call in 2018. With promises of a perfect HGTV quality remodel, the couple said they passed on a honeymoon to set aside money and signed the contract that guaranteed all the work would be done to code.

However, the couple’s confidence plummeted after discovering the shoddy renovations, which Paul told KTNY that “for somebody just walking in, it’s really good from far, but it’s far from good.”

Prior to taking legal action, the couple claimed they gave Cineflix and Villa Construction enough time to fix the issues that they had identified in their home. Nevertheless, the production and construction companies have thus far disputed this.

Mindy filed a complaint with the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) listing over 90 deficiencies, but the board only addressed 10 of those listed to be warranted and issued a Notice to Correct such deficiencies to Villa Construction.

The couple’s claims regarding the access they gave the contractor to repair the damages in the house — that is, the property remained vacated for two months before the couple moved in, and they permitted the contractors to enter the house more than 10 times over a four-month period after moving in — were by contradicted the NSCB after it closed out the complaint citing the Kings for declining to let the contractor inside. Villa Construction and Cineflix both agreed.

Cineflix released the following statement from its lawyers:

“We recognize the responsibility we are granted by the homeowners who choose to take part in our television shows. Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc. works with dedicated professionals who take pride in their work. We are aware of Paul and Mindy King's claims and have worked to resolve the short punch list of items that were identified by the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB). When the Kings rejected our attempts to complete the work, the NSCB closed the case and the punch list of items remain unresolved. As this matter is now before the courts, we are unable to comment any further at this time.”

Meanwhile, Villa Construction President Todd Christensen released his own statement:

“We always strive for customer satisfaction in all projects we undertake. Regarding the project at 7400 .... Ave, we were contacted by and contracted with a production company to participate in several home remodel projects. After completion of this project, the initial, detailed Construction Punch List created by the homeowner was completed. We have been made aware of additional items, several of which were only brought to our attention over a year after the work was completed, by way of the homeowner seeking a third-party inspection by the Nevada State Contractor's Board (NSCB). We cooperated with the inspection and tried to work with the homeowner to resolve the short list of items that were identified by the NSCB. Access to the home was denied by the homeowner. The NSCB made the decision to close the matter on October 21, 2020 via letter which stated, ‘Since you have not provided the contractor access to make the necessary corrections, we will take no further action’. We understand that the homeowner is now pursuing a legal claim, and therefore we have no further comment at this time.”

Additionally, the Scott brothers’ lawyers issued their own statement to Channel 9:

“The Property Brothers (“Brothers”) are not named defendants in Paul and Mindy King's (the “Kings”) lawsuit initiated against Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc. and Villa Construction, nor are they responsible for the Kings’ alleged claims. The Kings have rejected Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc.’s and Villa’s reasonable attempts to remedy the remaining punch list items in the Kings’ home. Instead, in what appears to be an attempt to secure a substantial monetary settlement, the Kings have engaged in a negative publicity campaign against the Brothers. It is unfortunate that the Kings have resorted to such conduct.”

As of now, attorneys for Cineflix filed to have the Kings’ case dismissed, which is set for a hearing scheduled at the end of this month.

Carmeon Hamilton is the first winner of HGTV’s Design Star: Next Gen. Founder of Nubi Interiors, Hamilton competed in weeks of competition to define her interior design style from each challenge to the next.

The finale aired on Thursday on HGTV where Hamilton won $50,000 and the possibility of having her own HGTV show. Design Star: Next Gen is a spin-off to the popular series Design Star.

Hamilton was a front runner throughout each challenge by impressing the judges with her use of materials and pushing the limits within design trends. Hamilton described her style as “modern bohemian” influenced by African culture and textiles.

When describing Hamilton, HGTV’s President Jane Latman said, “Cameron is an incredibly talented designer whose creativity and heart was on full display inDesign Star: Next Gen.”

Hamilton celebrated her victory by posting a video of her win on Instagram. She captioned the clip, “Good morning world.”

Hamilton wrote on her website that her “purpose is to not only discover the beauty in all things, but to also help others find that beauty in the things that surround them every day.” Based in Memphis, Hamilton is an environmental curator, interior designer, merchandising consultant, blogger, and content creator for Nubi Interiors.

Chip & Joanna Gaines are a design couple previously on HGTV and known for their show Fixer Upper. The couple’s charm shows through as Chip’s boisterous and joking demeanor plays off Joanna’s quieter and dryer humor. The two stole the hearts of the nation and had 5 successful seasons before ending in 2018. Although the show ended, the Gaines’ brand did not as they launched their own Magnolia brand, bakery, retail store, books, and now their own network - Magnolia network.

“We are — risk-takers, course changers, path makers, creators, dreamers, storytellers” reads the network's description. It will consist of different design shows such as Superdad, a show about dad, Taylor Calmus, who teams up with other dads to build their kids’ dream outdoor spaces; For the Love of Kitchens, about a bespoke kitchen design company based in the English countryside; and Homegrown, about Atlanta-based farmer Jamila Norman who helps families create their own backyard farms to grow their own food. Chip and Joanna will be showing their faces as well with a baking show with Joanna Gaines called Magnolia Table and a re-launch of Fixer Upper.

HGTV’s Design Star was a popular tv show from 2006 - 2013 where contestants tackled different design challenges for a chance to win their own HGTV show. Now, HGTV and Discovery + have given the show new life and revived it as Design Star: Next Gen.

This reboot will feature 8 designers vying for the $50,000 cash prize and a shot at their own show. The head judge is renowned interior designer Jonathan Adler who is joined by designer Lauren Makk and a myriad of other celebrity guests throughout.

“Lots of designers and home renovators tell us they dream about having their own show on HGTV,” said Loren Ruch, group senior vice president, programming and development, HGTV. “For the ones selected to be on Design Star: NextGen, their lives are about to change in ways they can’t imagine. This series will provide a once-in-a-lifetime showcase for their talent and creativity. It will raise their national visibility, multiply their business opportunities and boost their status as social media influencers.”

Chris Goddard

The contestants include designers, renovators, and social media brand-builders including Haute Design Network’s own Chris Goddard of Goddard Design Group! Chris has over 25 years of design experience and is the principal designer of Goddard Design Group, based in Springdale, Arkansas.

“I have been asked why in the world an established designer would do this show," says Goddard. "And my answer is: Why not! I viewed it as a chance to push myself out of my comfort zone and reconnect with the reason I became a designer.”

The design challenges are meant to stretch the designers to their limits, and for them to create something that showcases their unique style and brand. The show is six episodes long, hosted by Allison Hoker Boss, as well as sponsored by Wayfair.

The show also filmed during the pandemic but created a unique way to keep everyone safe. The show built a community known as the Design Hub, which was "isolated and customized" and was the only location where the show was filmed. Each contestant had their own house design space which they redesigned every week to reflect the weekly challenge. There was also a design studio, construction space, and fully stocked furniture and styling warehouse provided by Wayfair.

The first episode premiered on February 24 and will be released weekly on Discovery +.

Editor’s Note: Giselle Loor and Brett Sugerman of B+G Design have been married almost as long as they have been working together. Today, we celebrate past, present and future highlights of this interior design power couple of Haute Design.

In 2006, Loor and Sugerman founded B+G Design, which has become an award-winning interior design firm. Based in South Florida, the couple is regarded by their clients as experts in architectural design and interiors.

Balancing a life together, personal and business, day in and day out has brought Brett and Giselle success and a long marriage.

“Brett and I have been working together for over eighteen years,” says Giselle Loor. “We are constantly evolving how we operate our business, the relationship we have with our clients, staff and our community. It’s an ever-changing world and business, but what remains constant is the love we have for design—the passion we bring to every project we create. We call these projects our ‘design babies’ because they are created together and with so much love.”

B+G Design has been behind some of Haute Design’s most popular showcases, including this magnificent modern home.

In terms of love, “Love isn’t always perfect. It isn’t a fairytale or a storybook, and it doesn’t always come easy,” says Loor sensitively. “Love is overcoming obstacles, facing challenges, fighting to be together, holding on and never letting go. It is a short word, easy to spell, difficult to define and impossible to live without. Love is work but most of all love is realizing that every hour, every minute and every second was worth it because you did it together.”

Sugerman’s heartwarming tribute about his wife on this, their 12th wedding anniversary: “I realize that in the years before I met Giselle, I was designing with ‘one arm tied behind my back’,” he says. “After a short time working together, our chemistry was undeniable, as was the evolution of our design. We sparked something in each other & continue to do so to this day. After more than 18 years of partnership and now 12 as husband and wife, I couldn’t imagine life any other way, nor would I want to! I always tell Giselle that I am the luckiest guy in the world, and even during the most challenging of times, I feel the same way with her by my side.”

Recognition and Features of B+G Design

Their work has been featured on NBC, CBS and HGTV, as well as some of the leading luxury publications in the world.

Keeping up their success is the news that they will be included in this year’s Casacor Miami, the exhibition of architecture, interior and landscaping design taking place November 30 through December 16 in Miami’s Brickell City Centre. “We are thrilled,” says Loor.

From hosting HGTV and DIY Network television shows to now creating a beautiful Miami-inspired backyard oasis for NHL player and Massachusetts native Brian Boyle, former TV hosts Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns of "Rock Solid" and "Indoors Out" have designed some impressive luxury projects.

From Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Plymouth to the newly revamped Merchant's Row project in Hanover, they and their team at Hingham-based Plymouth Quarries have worked on some impressive projects. We caught up recently with them to learn some tips on transforming a yard into a luxury oasis and find out the biggest mistake homeowners make.

How did the opportunity to host "Rock Solid" and "Indoors Out" on the DIY Network come about?

Derek: My cousin is the idea man.

Dean: It only took me 40 years to get that title [laughs].

Derek: To make a long story short, we made a videotape and submitted it to every network and got rejected. DIY took a chance on us and we landed the show, "Rock Solid." Then we got "Indoors Out" and shot 200 shows. We were exhausted from traveling so we decided to take a break and do our own podcast.

Now you have your own podcast "Under Your Roof & In Your Backyard."

Derek: Nothing happens overnight, but our radio experience started way back. The idea had been in the back of our minds for some time and then we decided to go with Cumulus Media.

What are some key things you look for when transforming outdoor space into a luxury oasis?

Derek: One of the biggest things to focus on first at the front of the house is the curb appeal. The whole outdoor experience starts at the front of the house. It's what brings the most value. We do a mixture of concrete with natural stone products. A lot of people are afraid to mix. You can still have the durability, but it gives it color and helps with insulation.

How do you help guide customers in making the best choice for the home?

Dean: I live in a farmhouse in Norwell, so if I decided to go with a contemporary look, it would hurt the value. You have to decide what is the right product for the house.

Derek: Within a situation like that, the problem actually becomes the solution. We find out why they want a certain look, take ideas from that and find a solution without going away from their original idea. It's like marriage counseling [laughs].

What has been one of the biggest mistakes you have seen homeowners make when starting a new project?

Dean: It is very important to find the right people to do the work. Most top companies are booked into the fall and winter. People make the mistake of thinking they will be here to start the project on Monday. If someone can show up three days later, chances are they are not a top company. We tell people to find a top supplier and ask for a referral list. If you find a top supplier, you will educate yourself, too. At Plymouth Quarries, we are a supplier, but also a resource place as well. We have classes, help on design, offer advice and educate them. Education has become a big resource.

Derek: One big mistake people make is putting in a pool. They decide in March they want one and then they want it open by Memorial Day. It turns into an absolute disaster because they pushed it. You really should give yourself a two-year window. A lot goes into not only the planning, but the design. Many people in New England are putting heaters in their pools so they can use it from May to Thanksgiving. It really has to be thought out and planned well in advance.

Some Hollywood celebs have been flipping homes for years. Now many are realizing there's no point keeping quiet about it when a branding opportunity awaits.

Celebrity stock rises and falls faster than the tide during hurricane season. The trajectory from A-list megastar to D-list Dancing With The Stars wannabe can be brutally quick. To insulate themselves from plummeting bank accounts when role rejections pile up, stars have been getting their side hustle on. Turns out that just like us, house flipping has got under their exfoliated skin. They’ve also realized that a whole new branding opportunity awaits them if they transition from big-screen mavens to making cozy home havens. The only difference is when you’re flipping Hollywood homes the profits are almost as big as their owner’s egos.

The latest star to do so is actress Gabrielle Union and hubby Dwayne Wade. Their upcoming TV Special, All-Star Flip aired on April 12th. It follows the couple as they attempt to turn drab to fab in Florida with an outdated ranch home. The difference with this big-hearted couple as opposed to other flippers is that all proceeds are going to charity.

One of the best known flippers is Ellen DeGeneres. Passionate for interior design (she even had her own show on HGTV (Ellen’s Design Challenge), the comedian/talk show host has been flipping luxury LA pads for years. One of her most successful was in July 2014 when she sold LA’s Brody House (built in 1949, the home has a history of cutting edge design and philanthropy) to Napster founder, Sean Parker for $55 million, netting herself a $15-million payday.

The spa inside the famed Brody House.

In total Ellen bought and sold 7 properties in a decade from 2006 to 2016. Her famous friends have come in handy as buyers (Ryan Seacrest) and renters (Nick Jonas). In just over that time she’s made a net profit of $3.4 million. Sure, A-list celebs earn more for film roles and endorsements but as walking-about money, it’s not bad.

Another well known flipper is actor Jeremy Renner. He and business partner Kristoffer Winters have been flipping homes for years (it’s up to 20 at this point — homes not years). Some of his earlier flips were well documented in website The Wrap. Renner revealed at one point he was making more money flipping houses than acting. The actor said that being amongst the sheetrock, studs and power tools “keeps me grounded.” Most recently Renner has flipped his mother’s house at 201 Elmwood Court in Modesto, Ca., which was purchased in 2007, 7 years after the actor started flipping homes to supplement his income. Renner was hands-on with his mom, Valerie Clearley’s house. She plans to move to LA to join him and her grand kids. Wonder if Renner has a flip in mind to pass on to her there?

Modesto, California

It makes sense that creative types would get into house flipping. Whether creating music or mosaic backsplashes, Grammy winner Beck got in on the house-flipping fever when he purchased and restored a home in Brentwood, LA in 2016. He listed it for $3.75 million, over $700,000 more than he purchased it for.

Sharon Osborne, talk show host and reality TV star, has always been an astute business woman, so of course, she’s a serial house flipper, having remodeled dozens of homes in LA. Her one-hour TV Special was called Sharon Flipping Osborne. “I’m damn good at it,” she said of her house flipping skills on the show. We wouldn’t doubt it.
