Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are deemed as one of the most impressive contenders in the celebrity real estate market. The duo have been recognized for their frequent involvement in purchasing, renovating, and selling homes. The iconic talk show host has reportedly owned 20 properties since 2003. Recently, DeGeneres and de Rossi were reported to be gravitating further from the bustling city lifestyle selling their $45 million Beverly Hills mansion, their last remaining property in Los Angeles. Now, however, the celebrity couple are once again adding to their Californian catalog with the purchase of a new Beverly Hills abode for $8.5 million.

Built in 1961 by famed architect Robert Skinner, the home is often mistaken as the “Rowan estate” due a misspelling of the original commissioner, banker David H. Rowen and his wife, Shirley. In 1967, the property was purchased by architect Bruce D. Becket who owned it for 45 years. In 2012, talent agent Gregory Cavic and his wife, Jessica, purchased the residence for $3.5 million. Since then, the space has been completely restored by architect John Bertram and designer Sarah Shetter. Now, the half century old Beverly Hills home is in Ellen’s ownership.

Located in the posh community of Hidden Valley Estates, DeGeneres and de Rossi’s newfound property spans 4,614 square feet with five bedrooms and 4.5 baths. The mid-century offers decorative elements of terrazzo flooring, wood finishes, vintage details, and redwood tongue and groove siding. The open floor plan highlights floor-to-ceiling windows and glass walls for a comfortable and airy atmosphere. The living space features built in bookshelves, a distinctive light fixture, and plentiful sunlight. Leading from the living room rests the chef’s kitchen equipped with Douglas fir cabinets, Calacatta Gold salt marble countertops, and casual dining area. Also adjacent to the living room is the formal dining room perfect for entertaining. Stepping outside, the expansive near half acre exterior presents a courtyard entry and in-ground pool. Additionally, the lush greenery, trees, and gardens are designed by Judy Kameon of Elysian Landscapes.

Built in the winter of 2017, the New York City apartment complex formerly home to Grande and Davidson was designed by the late renowned architect Dame Zaha Hadid. The lavish custom decor consists of 10-foot-wide motorized windows, 10-foot-high ceilings, distinctive curved glass, and lacquered wall paneling. With 4,023 square feet of living space, Grande’s former unit includes five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The interior layout presents an ultramodern kitchen equipped with double dishwashers, double refrigerators, a wine refrigerator, a steam oven, and a sculptural island with beveled marble. Leading from the contemporary kitchen, the home offers a spacious family room and entertainment area with a bright and airy atmosphere. Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi have officially sold their Beverly Hills home for $47 million. The home was put on the market a month ago for an asking price of $53.5 million, yet the couple still managed to make a decent profit.

DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased their Beverly Hills home from Maroon 5’s lead singer Adam Levine back in May 2019 for $42 million. The 10,376-square-foot property has undergone substantial renovations while under the ownership of DeGeneres and De Rossi, on top of $7 million worth of upgrades made by Levine and his wife, Behati Prinsloo. The traditional-ivy covered home features five bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, with plenty of modern touches throughout the residence.

The property has a stainless-steel-covered kitchen, a sunlit two-story front foyer which leads into a 50-foot living room with a stone fireplace and white plaster walls, a family room, and a formal dining room with a bar. The upstairs suite spans 2,000 square feet with a private terrace and en suite bathroom. Other amenities include a resort-like pool with a spa, an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, a fire pit, a sunken tennis court, a paneled library, a gym and a screening room. The property also has a guest house.

DeGeneres and de Rossi are notorious for their real estate portfolio. The couple, who has owned over 20 homes throughout the years, are known for flipping their real estate purchases and reselling them shortly after. DeGeneres’ interest in real estate was inspired by her father and her childhood. Growing up, her family often rented properties but never actually owned a home. This inspired DeGeneres to buy her own property when she was finally able to afford it. Together, the couple share a passion for architecture and decorating, opting to try new styles and aesthetics with each property added to their portfolio.
