Awkwafina Lists Contemporary West Hollywood Townhome For $2.4 Million

“Crazy Rich Asians,” “Ocean’s 8,” and “The Farewell” star Awkwafina has listed her contemporary townhome in West Hollywood on the market for $2.4 million shortly after purchasing a stylish Bel-Air mansion.

Born as Nora Lum in Queens, New York, she has come a far way from the small railroad apartment in Brooklyn following her catapult into the limelight. The actress, comedian, and internet personality was once “scared” to invest in a larger space, but eventually moved to West Hollywood in 2019 where she purchased a $2.27 million townhome. Nearly two years later, she is now bidding farewell to her former residence listing it on the market for a slightly heightened price of $2.4 million. The presumed reason as to why she is selling her former home is that she recently purchased a stylish Bel-Air mansion for $3.5 million.

Awkwafina’s former West Hollywood home is a contemporary townhome spanning 3,500 square feet. The residence includes three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. The loft-style living space offers three levels, a roof deck with spa, and dazzling views of the cityscape. The space opens to a living and dining area with a fireplace and glass doors leading to a balcony. The white, modern kitchen equipped with two-tone cabinets and stainless-steel appliances sits adjacent to the dining space with cathedral ceilings and a bright light fixture. Upstairs, the master suite features a spacious walk-in closet and luxurious bathroom with dual vanities and glassed-in shower. The modern space also offers two other ensuite bedrooms, large bonus room, kitchenette, and office with separate entrance. Other perks of the home consist of four balconies, a two-car garage, sound system with built-in speakers, and easy access to a plethora of restaurants and shops on the nearby Melrose Avenue.

‘In The Heights’ Design Team Pulls Off Impressive Feat To Bring New York To Big Screen

Lin-Manuel Miranda's latest creation, In the Heights, focuses on his beloved Brooklyn Heights' surroundings from his upbringing and the movie premiered last week.

In order to bring his childhood neighborhood to the screen, Miranda teamed with an all-star squad. The writer/producer/composer called upon director Jon M. Chu, Emmy-nominated production designer Nelson Coates and set decorator Andrew Baseman, who were all part of 2018's smash hit Crazy Rich Asians. This all-star team re-joined forces to display a tight-knit, multi-ethnic community for In the Heights.

The set displays an eclectic mix of sceneries and businesses one would expect to see in Brooklyn Heights: bodegas, apartments, hair salons and public parks. The movie was filmed at a soundstage in Brooklyn.

One of the challenges for Baseman was to differentiate the interiors of the characters' living spaces based off their respective country of origin. However, the set decorator masterfully succeeds at this. Flags and typical nods to cultural heritages are seen throughout set decorations.

Perhaps two of the most prominent sets are the corner bodega store and the local hair salon. The design team kept things very authentic on both fronts. From the old cardboard pieces below freezers to soak up water to a hand painted mural outside the bodega's walls, not a single detail was overlooked.

In the Heights is in theaters across the country and with its bustling street scenes, it should do just the trick from an audience craving human interaction after reeling from a global pandemic.

Awkwafina Purchases $3.5 Million Bel-Air Mansion

Nora Lum, commonly known as her stage name Awkwafina, has purchased a four-bedroom mansion in Bel Air for $3.5 million. Awkwafina is a rapper, comedian, and actor, best known for her role in Crazy Rich Asians.

The Bel Air mansion has a modern, boxy architecture that appears simple yet stands out immediately. Located in a gated residence, the mansion sits privately in a secluded drive at the end of a cul-de-sac. Built in 1991 and designed by architect Richard Dodson, the 3,500 square foot space was inspired by Streamline Moderne décor.

The two-story property has an open-concept layout with numerous windows scattered throughout. The spacious living room has built-in floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a fireplace. Other living space amenities include a dining area and a chef’s kitchen equipped with Viking appliances.

The upstairs level holds an office or creative studio as well as the master suite. The master suite features dual closets, a fireplace, and a spa-inspired bathroom with an oval soaking tub and separate shower. It also features a private deck with a grassy seating area.

Other home amenities include a 2,500 bottle wine cellar, soundproof recording studio, and a gym. Outside has a putting area, heated pool and spa, and grassy lawn spaces perfect for relaxing. The property also has rooftop solar panels and a two-car garage.
