The highly-anticipated kliniko Miami office is set to open in the coming months.

Dr. Humza Arif offers an update on the office's construction and design.

Haute Design: What is the build update of the most-awaited dental practice in Miami?

Dr. Humza Arif: The inspirations from following leaders in the space has been ongoing and we continue to build kliniko Miami - Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry for completion date of April 2022.

HD: How has the process from design to build gone?

Dr. HA: It has been a very humbling experience. Taking an internal idea and capturing it so beautifully on paper as Yodezeen Architects has been able to do confirms the partnership kliniko and Yodezeen has formed. My team and I feel so grateful for what our patients will be able to experience. As we are now in the physical construction phase, it is becoming more and more tangible. The element of design simply cannot be overstated.

HD: Has your background helped in this process?

Dr. HA: As you know, I have always had an underlying passion for architectural form and function. I have applied the craft of dentistry as it relates to oral health and have kept the highest standards for both. Much like in the creation for a beautiful smile, we have been relentless in our pursuit for the ultimate space. Seeing the progression of kliniko as made tangible by our contractors under the guidance of Yodezeen has captured that idea with such precision.

HD: Do you have any design concepts our readers can see as we await fro the grand opening of kliniko Miami?

Dr. HA: Absolutely. I am thrilled to share some our photos with you. We have a phenomenal creative director and you'll be able to see photos throughout our social media platforms, including the kliniko Miami Instagram , the kliniko Miami Flickr page, as well as Haute Living.

HD: As we continue to move through 2022, what insights or advice would you give others who are on similar journeys of design?

Dr. HA: The concept of self as made tangible through spaces we experience should be exactly that. Let your own internal experiences flow outward in the design you want to capture. Don't settle for anything less than that. Our place in the world is to partake in the experiences of others and give of ourselves for the betterment of those experiences. Moving into this new year of 2022, we should always remember that we are one - architecture and design brings us together to share, experience and to be a vessel for pushing the boundaries of what we know.

Duoma Atelier is a multidisciplinary interior design studio that provides innovative and high-quality solutions for clients’ diverse lifestyles.

Norma and Gaston Galella, co-founders of Duoma Atelier, recently explained their design firm's philosophy and attributes with Haute Design.

Haute Design: As we have previously noted, Duoma Atelier is comprised of two main components. How do the two of you divide work flows for each project? Do both of you interact with the client?

Norma Galella: It's very important for us to listen to our clients from every perspective, whether that be design or constructibility. While I direct the design process and Gaston directs the construction process, we are constantly consulting with each other. We both interact with the client at all stages of each project, allowing for our corresponding expertise to inform each other and to brainstorm for better solutions in order to fulfill our clients' needs.

HD: What is the best service Duoma offers to its clients?

Gaston Galella: We can't really pinpoint a specific service. We believe our clients benefit the most when they hire us for our design and construction turnkey services. This is when you will truly experience peace of mind through our concierge practice.

HD: What is your design style?

NG: We all have personal styles, and believe it or not, it evolves throughout the years. However, what is truly different about our studio is that we try not to impose our style and trends onto our clients. Instead, we go through a rigorous discovery session with questionnaires and visuals to uncover their own style, which then informs our design process. Our clients don't come to us for a certain 'look.' The result is a truly customized project that fits each client individually, supporting their aesthetics, needs and wants.

HD: How do you bring peace of mind to your clients?

GG: In a traditional design and construction process, the client is the project manager for their home project and it can easily become a full-time job. The client would have to hire and supervise the design team and the consultants while providing construction documents for permits. The client would then have to oversee permitting and hire a general contractor for quotes. More often than not, price estimations come back higher than anticipated and initial design plans must be tweaked and adapted, not to mention permit drawings would need to be revised as well.

We have heard horror stories from clients who have gone through this lengthy and painful process only to realize their project was not feasible and they had to abandon their plans for their dream home.

At Duoma, the client only has to interact with us and we act as their representative throughout the entire process. We hire and manage all necessary consultants and subcontractors. We will establish the clients' goals and needs from the beginning of the design process accordingly, so the entire process is streamlined and more efficient. We always keep the client informed and we work with them as one team.

HD: How did the name for the firm come to be? Who came up with 'Duoma?'

NG: Duoma stems from the word 'duo' and signifies the expertise duality on which our studio is founded. The 'o' in Duoma creates the center and balance of our logo and is composed of two floating symmetrical shapes. Each shape represents each discipline constantly pulling and pushing each other, creating a holistic approach in design and construction.

We worked with a branding company called Panamera. They're a very creative group who helped us develop a bespoke brand to represent our aesthetics and what we stand for.

HD: Describe Duoma's design philosophy in three words.

GG: Bespoke, mindful, functional.

Dr. Humza Arif is one of South Florida’s native cosmetic and restorative dentists. Graduating from Nova Southeastern University, this aficionado of experience elevated his education and trade by focusing on rehabilitative dentistry. It is in this way minimal invasive dentistry is able to restore natural aesthetics, both mechanical and cosmetic, to their true form. For this reason, the vision of his space kliniko merged flawlessly with Yodezeen Architects. This partnership culminated the senses into an impressionable patient experience and is the “fusion of what we experience as felt through our eyes, the function of oral health and the confidence encompassed in the totality of form. It is why I am ecstatic to bring it to the people of Miami," shares Dr. Arif.

Dr. Humza Arif recently sat down with Haute Design to speak about the construction developments of kliniko's Miami offices.

Haute Design: Your office, kliniko, is currently undergoing construction. Is there an estimated date for the office to be ready?

Dr. Humza Arif: kliniko has been an ongoing development in design, form and operational excellence. The culmination of the three will come together in March 2022.

HD: How much of the design is prepared or completed before this step, if any?

DHA: The design of kliniko was integrated with the form and function of the practice. The architectural development has been in tandem with everything our patients need for the most bespoke experience.

HD: Would you say this is the part of the design process wherein you needed to exercise the most patience?

DHA: Anything beautiful in this world is built with others. Nature coexists and the inspiration from that essence coalesced with the development of leading experts. The architectural design and material of the physical practice inspired the infrastructure and development team, and vice versa. This allows the craft of dentistry to to emerge in an unseen, unexperienced way, more than ever before - something the people of Miami truly deserve.

HD: If you could describe the design style we can expect to see in three words, once the offices are ready, what would they be?

DHA: Three words alone could never capture what the senses will experience. Rather, I am looking forward to hear what my patients think and feel in March 2022.

Born in Kansas, the designer and TV star Joanna Gaines balances her life between being a wife, a mother, and a businesswoman. Gaines is not only a star in the hit television show Fixer Upper but also the co-owner and co-founder of the design and real estate company Magnolia.

Her interest in design emerged after she graduated from Baylor University with a degree in communications. She worked as an intern in New York and fell in love with the profession. Her expertise and knowledge of design will often give people the impression that she had intensive training in the area, however, when she started flipping houses with her husband she had zero interior design background.

Magnolia, Gaines’ personal project, was founded in 2003 when she also opened her own shop, Magnolia Market. Gaines and her husband, Chip, put all their love for design into remodeling and flipping homes. She mentions on the company’s website how Magnolia Market’s business idea was born out of a dream that was imagined impossible. She explained how it came to life thanks to her husband’s support and encouragement. After having their two kids, the couple decided to close the Market to focus on family, while also putting all their efforts into Magnolia Homes, where they learned the construction side of the business. After starting with the television show, she made the decision to reopen Magnolia Market, which turned into a great store in downtown Waco and an extensive online store.

The exceptionally successful company landed Gaines in the post of one of the most successful designers and businesswomen in the country. In addition to her own company, the television show Fixer Upper transformed her into a design celebrity. Currently, with over eleven million followers, she is one of the designers with the highest number of followers on Instagram.

Joanna’s style, inspired by her Texan roots, can be defined as classic, simple, and fresh. She has a great eye for seeing potential in old and antiquated things and turning them into new pieces. A room designed by Gaines will most likely include wooden floors, wooden furniture, a cozy fireplace, and a big plush bed. Interestingly, Gaines revealed that her favorite space to renovate and design in a house is the laundry room, since it is often underestimated, and can serve as a great inspiration and comfort space if designed right.

Remodeling or building a house or a workspace is not an easy task. Hiring the right people to help you is the key to making your vision become a reality. It is a common misconception to use the terms interior designer and interior decorator interchangeably. There are major differences that make each qualified for specific functions.

While designers create functional spaces within a building, decorators embellish the space with decorative pieces, such as furniture, rugs, and accessories.

An Interior decorator garnishes spaces that already exist by helping their clients make decisions about best fitting style, color palettes, furniture, art, and accessories. If your space does not require structural changes such as adding new walls and electrical wiring, then an interior decorator is the best fit for you. They are the correct choice if your space simply needs visual updates.

Unlike an interior decorator, an interior designer works with creating new interior spaces. A designer creates an appealing space and strategically studies how to create a functional and methodical environment to satisfy their clients’ needs. They use technology to carefully create virtual plans to work hand in hand with construction teams who carry out the design. If you want your space to be a reflection of your personality and style while also functioning in a way that corresponds to your lifestyle, then hiring a designer is the right fit for you.

When it comes to hiring a designer or a decorator, one of the main concerns is the cost. Contrary to what most think, hiring a designer can help you understand exactly where your money is going, as well as help you work your space with items that best fit your budget. You will indeed have an additional cost of a designer's fee, but you will avoid spending money on a piece of furniture that looked amazing in the store but did not fit your living room, or painting your walls five times because you cannot find the right color palette. A designer or decorator will not only benefit you financially but also save you time by using their experience and expertise to anticipate obstacles that might come up along the way.

Haute design has a wonderful network of interior designers who can help you make your space perfectly fitted for your lifestyle and your needs. You can find these top designers at https://dev.hauteresidence.com/designer/

Cineflix, which produces Property Brothers on HGTV, is still facing a lawsuit from a couple who appeared on the TV show and felt “bamboozled and tricked” after discovering multiple issues with their costly home renovation.

Despite Drew and Jonathan Scott’s aim to help couples unearth their dream homes using “state-of-the-art” programs for construction and remodeling, the production company behind Property Brothers is now facing a lawsuit from a Las Vegas couple who allegedly found several problems with their home renovation, which was featured on an episode of the hit reality HGTV series.

Paul and Mindy King told KTNY that they’re suing Cineflix (the company that produces Property Brothers) and the local contractor, Villa Construction, that worked on their home after discovering wires left exposed, uneven baseboards, improperly attached doors, and a number of renovations not executed according to code. The brothers themselves were not named in the lawsuit.

To clarify, in order for the Scott brothers to work with local contractors on the properties featured on the show, the homeowners in each episode must take care of the expenses first.

The Kings paid over $193,000 to Cineflix for their home remodel in 2019 after hearing about a Property Brothers casting call in 2018. With promises of a perfect HGTV quality remodel, the couple said they passed on a honeymoon to set aside money and signed the contract that guaranteed all the work would be done to code.

However, the couple’s confidence plummeted after discovering the shoddy renovations, which Paul told KTNY that “for somebody just walking in, it’s really good from far, but it’s far from good.”

Prior to taking legal action, the couple claimed they gave Cineflix and Villa Construction enough time to fix the issues that they had identified in their home. Nevertheless, the production and construction companies have thus far disputed this.

Mindy filed a complaint with the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) listing over 90 deficiencies, but the board only addressed 10 of those listed to be warranted and issued a Notice to Correct such deficiencies to Villa Construction.

The couple’s claims regarding the access they gave the contractor to repair the damages in the house — that is, the property remained vacated for two months before the couple moved in, and they permitted the contractors to enter the house more than 10 times over a four-month period after moving in — were by contradicted the NSCB after it closed out the complaint citing the Kings for declining to let the contractor inside. Villa Construction and Cineflix both agreed.

Cineflix released the following statement from its lawyers:

“We recognize the responsibility we are granted by the homeowners who choose to take part in our television shows. Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc. works with dedicated professionals who take pride in their work. We are aware of Paul and Mindy King's claims and have worked to resolve the short punch list of items that were identified by the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB). When the Kings rejected our attempts to complete the work, the NSCB closed the case and the punch list of items remain unresolved. As this matter is now before the courts, we are unable to comment any further at this time.”

Meanwhile, Villa Construction President Todd Christensen released his own statement:

“We always strive for customer satisfaction in all projects we undertake. Regarding the project at 7400 .... Ave, we were contacted by and contracted with a production company to participate in several home remodel projects. After completion of this project, the initial, detailed Construction Punch List created by the homeowner was completed. We have been made aware of additional items, several of which were only brought to our attention over a year after the work was completed, by way of the homeowner seeking a third-party inspection by the Nevada State Contractor's Board (NSCB). We cooperated with the inspection and tried to work with the homeowner to resolve the short list of items that were identified by the NSCB. Access to the home was denied by the homeowner. The NSCB made the decision to close the matter on October 21, 2020 via letter which stated, ‘Since you have not provided the contractor access to make the necessary corrections, we will take no further action’. We understand that the homeowner is now pursuing a legal claim, and therefore we have no further comment at this time.”

Additionally, the Scott brothers’ lawyers issued their own statement to Channel 9:

“The Property Brothers (“Brothers”) are not named defendants in Paul and Mindy King's (the “Kings”) lawsuit initiated against Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc. and Villa Construction, nor are they responsible for the Kings’ alleged claims. The Kings have rejected Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc.’s and Villa’s reasonable attempts to remedy the remaining punch list items in the Kings’ home. Instead, in what appears to be an attempt to secure a substantial monetary settlement, the Kings have engaged in a negative publicity campaign against the Brothers. It is unfortunate that the Kings have resorted to such conduct.”

Haute Living's Seth Semilof introduced Cheryl Casone, who joined FOX Business Network (FBN) as an anchor in September 2007 and currently serves as the co-anchor of FBN:AM, which airs weekdays at 5 AM/EST. Casone served as the host of the dynamic dialogue that included questions submitted by viewers.

Semilof continued by welcoming the panelists for today's webinar:

Louis Birdman, co-developer of One Thousand Museum by Zaha Hadid Architects.

Watch the full video below

Casone took over and engaged the panelists in an hour-long conversation that encompassed multiple real estate markets. They gave their thoughts on the best ways for real estate agents, brokers, developers, and the industry overall to deal with the effect that COVID-19 has had on business and the rest of the year.

"There have been many changes in the way we are all doing business," said Birdman. "Real estate is a face-to-face business, but that has changed with this outbreak. People still need to move, have leases coming up and other circumstances, so properties continue to get shown in different ways to ensure the safety of sellers, buyers and people working at properties."

Stern spoke on New York's state of real estate affairs since the Big Apple became the center of the Coronavirus pandemic in the US. "For New York, we closed our office three and a half weeks ago, completely working remotely except for construction," he said. Then, he continued to compare his company's activity in South Florida with New York. "In Miami, we have not seen much of a drop in manpower in construction. For the most part, we are doing construction in Florida and largely stopped in New York."

The construction of The Estates at Acqualina has continued while adapting to today's standards of social distancing and higher use of technology for marketing. "We are able to continue with the construction, but taking care of our workers," said Trump. He continued, "We are making great use of technology to share communications to tell the story of The Estates at Acqualina. We are in constant communication with our customers today, even more so than prior."

Casone asked Defortuna about the quick learning curve for the entire industry on how to conduct business from a distance. "Especially on the luxury side of the market, nobody needs to buy a second or third home," he said. "They buy it because they love it. From the marketing point of view, we have specialized in marketing to the entire world, providing tools to brokers to promote our projects in Latin America, Europe, and worldwide. Presentations of this type are happening all over the world. My brokers are saying they are busier now than before when they were doing presentations one-on-one."

Today's webinar followed on yesterday's session that featured Daniel de la Vega, President of ONE Sotheby's International Realty.

The real estate developer panel at the Haute Residence 2020 Luxury Miami Real Estate Summit taking place next Wednesday, February 12th at Residences by Armani/Casa (18975 Collins Ave.) is a "who's who" in the industry.

The event will be covered extensively by Fox Business Network and Anchor of FBN:AM, Cheryl Casone, who is taking her New York film crew to Miami's sandy beaches to interview some of the real estate industry's biggest names at the Summit.

The "Titans of Miami" panelists will start this year's Summit at one of the grandest residential locations in all of South Florida, where they will speak of the luxury real estate market and where they see it heading. Listen and learn from them by purchasing your ticket to the Summit HERE.

They are:

Gil Dezer, President, Dezer Development

An accomplished businessman and humanitarian, Gil Dezer is a visionary developer, and one of the largest oceanfront property owners in Sunny Isles Beach. Dezer and his father, Michael Dezer, own just over 27 acres of prime oceanfront property, arguably one of the largest holdings of beachfront property owned and developable in the state of Florida.

Dezer has been instrumental in changing the face and value of the South Florida residential real estate industry through the introduction of brand partnerships, connecting his developments with some of the world’s most recognized brand names.

In collaboration with real estate mogul and now-President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, Dezer led the Trump Organization’s first foray into the South Florida real estate market through the successful development of Trump Grande Ocean Resort and Residences and Trump Towers in Sunny Isles Beach.

Dezer Development received a $214 million construction loan from Wells Fargo in September 2013, at the time marking the largest loan for a single construction project in the Southeast in the post-recession era. The highly-anticipated Porsche Design Tower officially became a reality in the first quarter of 2017, marking the completion of the iconic tower.

Dezer leveraged this track record of success with marquee lifestyle brands to enter into an exclusive partnership with The Related Group and Armani/Casa Interior Design Studio to launch the world-renowned fashion and furnishings designer, Giorgio Armani’s, first residential tower in the U.S. real estate market, Residences by Armani/Casa. Designed by globally-acclaimed Argentine-born architect, César Pelli, the 56-story oceanfront tower features 308 luxurious residences and incomparable amenities spanning two floors, all exquisitely designed by Armani/Casa with rich textiles and custom furnishings.

Following yesterday’s marking of the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Haute Design Network is taking a look at the reconstruction of the buildings that are rising up again to dominate New York’s real estate. Since ground was broken on construction in 2006, steady progress has been made at the 16-acre site in Lower Manhattan. Already workers have built a memorial to those who lost their lives, with twin reflecting pools now occupying the areas where the towers once stood. In addition, a museum will be constructed beneath the new plaza. In addition to the memorial and museum, four new buildings will take the place of the fallen Twin Towers.

One World Trade Center, previously known as Freedom Tower, is set to open in 2014 at the northwest corner of the plaza. The building is set to become one of the city’s most sought-after locations, with Conde Nast (publishers of Vogue and Vanity Fair among other titles) already signed on as tenants. One World Trade Center, already standing at 1,368 feet, will become the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere when its crowning spire is added. In total the building will reach a symbolic 1,776 feet, in reference to the year America won its independence.

Work on Two World Trade Center, located at the northeast corner of the plaza, has no set date for completion. The building will eventually reach 88 stories high, but until the building’s commercial spaces are bought up construction has focused on the other buildings. Three World Trade Center, set to open in 2015, will rise to 88 stories. Four World Trade Center, located at the southeast corner of the plaza, is set to open in 2013 and construction has already reached the full height of 977 feet.

In these stunning new photos from The Architect’s Newspaper, construction forges ahead. The view from work on the 103rd floor of One World Trade Center is a sneak peek at the incredible views which will greet guests to the observation decks planned on floors 100th, 101st and 102nd. Looking down from the top of the building, the memorial reflecting pools shine brightly. We will continue to monitor the completion of these buildings, which are such a poignant symbol of resilience and valor.

Following yesterday’s marking of the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Haute Real Estate is taking a look at the reconstruction of the buildings that are rising up again to dominate New York's real estate.
