Paolo Pininfarina, whose grandfather opened the luxury design firm, was present during Miami Art Week 2019 to unveil the presentation.

"Oasis" explores the concept of mindfulness through a global lens, providing an immersive experience that allows the viewer to engage with all senses. It was created as a partnership with Florida-based sustainable luxury furniture leader Sklar Furnishings, and the landscape architecture practice, LAND.

“Architecture and design are far more than a mere collection of aesthetic elements—the built environment can influence the behavior of people in a powerful way,” says Paolo Trevisan, Pininfarina’s Head of Design and Architecture.

The plan for the exhibition is anchored in a single, interactive pathway, intended to represent the journey to self-realization and groundedness. Designed to detach each visitor from the technology-driven world and reconnect the body to a sense of self, the pathway will lead to a secluded, calming oasis hidden within the installation. Participants will find this pathway at the end of a narrow tunnel, perfectly balanced by a lush, central tree of life. Above, a cascading garden will provide a sense of security, slowing visitors’ racing minds and allowing them to find peace and healing in nature. The biophilia for the exhibit will be curated by LAND. Designed with the purpose of wellbeing; whether used for medicinal or fragrant purposes, each of the plants will be selected for how it benefits the human body. Capitalizing on sweeping city views, which are framed by a custom-built bar at the window, visitors will discover the oasis within––invited to unwind and explore their taste buds over a cup of herbal tea.

Driven by the philosophy that good design can support good health, Pininfarina is incorporating the five senses—sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound—into the design of the exhibition to create moments of healing and tranquility for the mind, body, and spirit. For sight, written affirmations and strategically-placed lighting will facilitate visitor relaxation; for sound, calming music that corresponds to mood lighting will define the energy of the journey, encouraging visitors to release the tensions of modern life; for smell, natural biophilic aromas will enhance one’s connection to the natural world; for taste, calming tea will be available for those who enjoy the ritual; and for touch, peaceful, grounding materials and textures will exude serenity and offer comfort.

Haute Design: Which awards did you win with ASID?

Sandra Diaz-Velasco: We won 1ST PLACE Contemporary Residential Design over 3,000 sq. ft. for our Brickell Bachelor Project.

HD: Is there one that you cherish more than the others? Why?

SDV: Not really; but as a challenge we treasure our EOLO Senseful Space Casacor Miami because we pushed our team limits in every single way. Those limits included creative, innovative, budgetary, and time, since this was a temporary installation during Art Basel.  I experienced the full support of my internal and external team of Eolo staff, vendors and contractors. EVERYONE jumped on board with the challenge and made possible what I thought impossible. I am very grateful for that, beyond us winning this design award.

HD: How did it feel when you found out that you won one? When two? When three? When four?

SDV: It is something difficult to describe. First, we were soooooo happy and excited because we competed with top talents in the industry. On the second one were like "WOW we made it again!" and ran to get the award. On the 3rd one, we could not believe it… and on the 4th one we were beside ourselves but felt a bit embarrassed… 

Overall, we feel thankful to have such an excellent team inside and outside. It is because of them (Eolo staff, contractors and vendors) that we get to take beautiful pictures of what began as a thoughtful sketch and design concept.

HD: What do you wish to do with your next project that would hopefully merit further recognition from an organization like ASID?

SDV: I would do what we always do. We don’t stop learning and I encourage curiosity to my team. There is always something new out there; an improvement to materials and processes that would render better design solutions in order to exceed our clients' needs and expectations.  Our passion for design is endless, so I believe people and institutions will further notice our work.

In 2006, Loor and Sugerman founded B+G Design, which has become an award-winning interior design firm. Based in South Florida, the couple is regarded by their clients as experts in architectural design and interiors.

Balancing a life together, personal and business, day in and day out has brought Brett and Giselle success and a long marriage.

“Brett and I have been working together for over eighteen years,” says Giselle Loor. “We are constantly evolving how we operate our business, the relationship we have with our clients, staff and our community. It’s an ever-changing world and business, but what remains constant is the love we have for design—the passion we bring to every project we create. We call these projects our ‘design babies’ because they are created together and with so much love.”

B+G Design has been behind some of Haute Design’s most popular showcases, including this magnificent modern home.

In terms of love, “Love isn’t always perfect. It isn’t a fairytale or a storybook, and it doesn’t always come easy,” says Loor sensitively. “Love is overcoming obstacles, facing challenges, fighting to be together, holding on and never letting go. It is a short word, easy to spell, difficult to define and impossible to live without. Love is work but most of all love is realizing that every hour, every minute and every second was worth it because you did it together.”

Sugerman’s heartwarming tribute about his wife on this, their 12^th wedding anniversary: “I realize that in the years before I met Giselle, I was designing with ‘one arm tied behind my back’,” he says. “After a short time working together, our chemistry was undeniable, as was the evolution of our design.  We sparked something in each other & continue to do so to this day. After more than 18 years of partnership and now 12 as husband and wife, I couldn’t imagine life any other way, nor would I want to! I always tell Giselle that I am the luckiest guy in the world, and even during the most challenging of times, I feel the same way with her by my side.”

Recognition and Features of B+G Design

Their work has been featured on NBC, CBS and HGTV, as well as some of the leading luxury publications in the world.

Keeping up their success is the news that they will be included in this year’s Casacor Miami, the exhibition of architecture, interior and landscaping design taking place November 30 through December 16 in Miami’s Brickell City Centre. “We are thrilled,” says Loor.
