Co-founder, bassist, and ‘The Demon” of legendary rock band Kiss has been a longtime superstar and resident of Beverly Hills, California. In 1986, Simmons and his wife, Shannon Tweed, purchased a Beverly Hills abode for $1.34 million. For more than three decades, the property has been home to him and his family as the primary setting for seven seasons of his A&E reality series, “Gene Simmons Family Jewels.”

The once two-acre estate boasted a 3,500 square foot farmhouse which Simmons renovated into an impressive 13,400 square foot mansion for about $12 million. However, the iconic musician decided to bid farewell to his custom-built home in October of last year when the property was listed at $22 million. The home, however, went unsold and was taken off the market before being relisted in March for $25 million. By mid-May, the price had been reduced to $20 million. Now, the property has finally been sold for a $16 million as Simmons claimed he would like “a quieter lifestyle” while planning to relocate to Lake Tahoe.

Down a long winding pathway, the Beverly Hills home rests beyond gated walls and opens to a dramatic entry with sweeping staircases. The palatial space with a two-story foyer and great room with catwalk includes seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Two of the rooms have previously encapsulated a Kiss inspired theme but have since been stripped of memorabilia after being listed on the market. In 1967, the property was purchased by architect Bruce D. Becket who owned it for 45 years. In 2012, talent agent Gregory Cavic and his wife, Jessica, purchased the residence for $3.5 million. Since then, the space has been completely restored by architect John Bertram and designer Sarah Shetter. Now, the half century old Beverly Hills home is in Ellen’s ownership.

Located in the posh community of Hidden Valley Estates, DeGeneres and de Rossi’s newfound property spans 4,614 square feet with five bedrooms and 4.5 baths. The mid-century offers decorative elements of terrazzo flooring, wood finishes, vintage details, and redwood tongue and groove siding. The open floor plan highlights floor-to-ceiling windows and glass walls for a comfortable and airy atmosphere. Canadian actor and comedian Will Arnett has been busy making deals in the real estate market. In 2015, he purchased a modern structure in Beverly Hills for $2.86 million. Cindy Crawford was deemed one of the most recognized supermodels in the 1980s and 1990s gracing the cover of multiple magazines, walking runway shows, and serving as the face of fashion campaigns. She has since expanded into other ventures and in 1998, married nightlight industry businessman Rande Gerber. Gerber co-founded the tequila brand Casamigos with acclaimed actor George Clooney in 2013. In 2017, Crawford and Gerber purchased a mid-century modern home in Beverly Hills for $11.6 million through a trust. However, the two are now bidding farewell to their humble abode listing it on the market for an initial price $15.995 million last August. Since then, the price has been reduced to $14.75 million in May before recently securing a buyer. While the transaction has yet to appear in public records and the buyer’s identity remains anonymous, the home was last listed at $13.5 million.

Additionally, the celebrity couple have secured several other properties with two homes in Malibu, a vacation home in La Quinta’s Madison Club, and a cottage in Canada. Aside from Crawford and Gerber though, other notable names in the entertainment industry have inhabited their Beverly Hills abode. OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder and his wife, Genevieve, purchased the house in 2014 and spent almost two years restoring and expanding the property. Prior to their residence, the space belonged to film producer Gregory Goodman of “Jason Bourne” and “Captain Phillips.”

In 2019, Crawford spoke to Architectural Digest about her Beverly Hills home. “It's midcentury modern, so it's been fun putting it through our own filter. We make a lot of our upholstery,” she explains. “My husband is very, very picky about the cushion density and seat depth because he's taller.” However, Crawford also claims that Gerber “would sacrifice functionality for the look” in certain aspects of their home while her utmost priority lies in comfortability.

Built in 1959, the chic mid-century modern home spans 5,386 square feet and includes five bedrooms and 5.5 baths. The single-story space rests beyond gated walls in the posh Trousdale Estates neighborhood and has been completely renovated and restored during Tedder’s residence. Dwayne Johnson (also known as wrestling star The Rock) and his wife, Lauren Hashian, have purchased a gorgeous estate in the Beverly Park enclave of Beverly Hills, California for $27.8 million, formerly owned by comedian Paul Reiser.

The mansion was built in 1993 and was designed and renovated by architect Grant Kirkpatrick. The sprawling property includes a 15,000-square-foot main house on a private spread with canyon views and landscaped grounds.

A long, olive tree-lined driveway leads to a motor court with a fountain. Situated on a quiet cul-de-sac, the home has no immediate neighbors’ insight and is considered the largest property in the upscale Beverly Park neighborhood.

The Mediterranean style home has six bedrooms and 13 bathrooms and includes multiple luxurious amenities such as a tennis court, a pool and spa, an indoor pool, a large gym, a baseball diamond, a music room with a recording studio, a movie theater, and an elevator.

The music room was reportedly installed by Alex Van Halen in the early 1990s.

The resort-style home also features a 2,500-square-foot guest house.

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi have officially sold their Beverly Hills home for $47 million. The home was put on the market a month ago for an asking price of $53.5 million, yet the couple still managed to make a decent profit.

DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased their Beverly Hills home from Maroon 5’s lead singer Adam Levine back in May 2019 for $42 million. The 10,376-square-foot property has undergone substantial renovations while under the ownership of DeGeneres and De Rossi, on top of $7 million worth of upgrades made by Levine and his wife, Behati Prinsloo. The traditional-ivy covered home features five bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, with plenty of modern touches throughout the residence.

The property has a stainless-steel-covered kitchen, a sunlit two-story front foyer which leads into a 50-foot living room with a stone fireplace and white plaster walls, a family room, and a formal dining room with a bar. The upstairs suite spans 2,000 square feet with a private terrace and en suite bathroom. Other amenities include a resort-like pool with a spa, an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, a fire pit, a sunken tennis court, a paneled library, a gym and a screening room. The property also has a guest house.

DeGeneres and de Rossi are notorious for their real estate portfolio. The couple, who has owned over 20 homes throughout the years, are known for flipping their real estate purchases and reselling them shortly after. DeGeneres’ interest in real estate was inspired by her father and her childhood. Growing up, her family often rented properties but never actually owned a home. This inspired DeGeneres to buy her own property when she was finally able to afford it. Together, the couple share a passion for architecture and decorating, opting to try new styles and aesthetics with each property added to their portfolio.

Music producer and Haute Living cover star DJ Khaled has sold his Beverly Hills home for $12.5 million through an off-market deal.

Khaled purchased the home from British pop star Robbie Williams in 2016 for $9.9 million. The 10,681-square-foot property holds a total of six bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Built in 1992, the French-Chateau home sits on almost three-fourths of an acre with scenic views of Beverly Hills.

Located in the gated Mulholland Estates community in Beverly Hills, other residences in the celebrity-filled area include Kendall Jenner, Paris Hilton, and Christina Aguilera.

Haute Residence: To what do you attribute to the increased level of activity in your market as of late?

Kathryn Shafer: It's Los Angeles. For every “one” who moves to Tennessee, Austin, etc., there are two more who love Los Angeles and are moving here. Not just one-home families. LA is seeing multiple purchases for second-home properties. The glamour is here to stay. Once you fall in love with Los Angeles you never leave, or always want “one foot in”. Many of my clients who are leaving LA are not selling their properties. I assist in property management and long-term leasing.

HR: How do you see the luxury real estate market in LA going forward for the next few months?

KS: Demand is high in the Beverly Hills Post Office corridor to Sherman Oaks. From entry-level to trophy properties selling in Beverly Park Estates at 39 million. Private schools are aplenty, but BHPO and Sherman Oaks offer fantastic Los Angeles Unified School options. You don’t need to go private in Beverly Hills Post Office. The great elementary schools, [such as] LA Unified, are some of the best in Southern California.

HR: What has been a highlight sale for you so far in 2021?

KS: Working with a noted family out of Miami, my 2021 has been focused on getting their next generation settled into real estate. Both young adults are in the entertainment industry and are now just getting settled into a classic 1960 mid-century, and the other into a compound, both classic California living with pools and turn-key houses. Multiple offers are still commonplace in my markets, and proven strategies so far have been the winning formula to close the deals.
