Located in the Biltmore Square neighborhood in Coral Gables, Florida, Beatrice Row is an enclave of luxury townhomes. This contemporary building’s design was inspired by the most elegant and fashionable Georgian architecture of London, New York, and Boston. Residential property development company MG developer brought Beatrice Row to life along with architectural firm de la Guardia Victoria Architects & Urbanists, Inc. Due to their exceptional work and achievement in traditional design, Beatrice Row was awarded the Palladio Award for most outstanding architecture in a residential multi-unit project.

The 19th annual Palladio Awards competition honored fourteen architectural firms across the country for their outstanding work in traditional design for commercial, institutional, public, and residential projects. With a façade full of elegant coral stone details, cast stone cornice, and hand-crafted bronze-finished balconies, Beatrice Row was recognized for its beauty and creative interpretation of Georgian design principles. The Palladio Award is not the first award Beatrice Row has won; however, Beatrice Row was previously awarded the Addison Mizner Award and The Congress of New Urbanism Award as well.

The interior of Beatrice Row is just as impressive as its exterior. Standing three stories tall, each townhome offers four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a powder room. The first level includes a 4-car garage with a service area, a walk-in laundry room, a library, and a full bath. On the second level is the home’s main floor with an entryway and gourmet kitchen. The third level features the master suite with a spa and a full bathroom. Private elevators, smart home automation, and covered terraces can also be found in each townhome.

Maria de la Guardia Chief Architect of de la Guardia Victoria Architects & Urbanists said, “We are very proud to have received the Palladio Award, especially for Beatrice Row. This project was unique in scope and serves a distinct affluent market. When the developer told us they wanted to build a special European-inspired enclave following the footsteps of George Merrick’s vision for the City, we knew right away all of the design elements required to create a luxurious multi-family development worthy of worldly recognition.”

CEO of MG Developer, Alirio Torrealba, and the mayor of the City of Coral Gables, Vince Lago, also commented on Beatrice Row’s Palladio Award.

Torrealba said, “We take great pride in all of the developments we build. They are a true labor of love, and Beatrice Row is one of those luxury developments that not only complements the beautiful aesthetics of the City Beautiful but also inspires creativity in the community.”

Lago added, “MG Developer has built truly exemplary residences in Coral Gables, and Beatrice Row elevated the standard for luxury living in Coral Gables. We are not surprised that this award-winning row of residences has garnered another impressive recognition, with the latest Palladio Award. We are truly proud of this award and international recognition Beatrice Row has brought to our City Beautiful, blending in perfectly with Coral Gables’ rich culture, history, environment, and aesthetic beauty. I congratulate them.”

The $50 million development will be completed by 2024

Coral Gables’ most active developer, MG Developer is about to break ground on its newest enclave, Gables Village, a 48-unit Seville-inspired residential community that will pay homage to George Merrick’s legacy and history in the form of shaded tree-lined streets, plazas, parks, and fountains. MG Developer’s CEO, Alirio Torrealba, plans to revive George Merrick’s original vision for this parcel of the City Beautiful in a classic, yet modern way.

Located at 535 Santander Avenue, the $50 million village will consist of duplexes, townhouses, and condominiums set throughout 17 lots, replacing the existing rental apartments bordered by Malaga Avenue, Santander Avenue, Segovia Street, and Hernando Street. Inspired by Merrick’s seven villages, Gables Village will be built in a Mediterranean Revival-style Architecture, designed by De La Guardia Victoria Architects & Urbanists, and bordered by gardens inspired by the alcoves in the Plaza de España.
Now in its planning stage, Gables Village will integrate gardens and courtyards throughout an entire block, with 50 percent of the site expected to include lush landscaping and hidden parking garages featuring an artistic component that complements the entire Coral Gables area. The assembly of the project pays homage to the city’s past while building for modern-day luxurious comforts.

“As our projects evolve and move through the planning and design phase, we remain committed to working closely with the City of Coral Gables to deliver communities that fall in line with the City’s aesthetic values, which are truly rich in historic and cultural traditions,” added Torrealba. “Furthermore, we create welcoming homes from the inside out, and places that people from the entire community can enjoy and appreciate.”

The development will include townhomes, duplexes, lofts, flats, and an archway with raised residences above ground level, creating a distinct welcoming feeling into the Gables Village enclave. Units will vary in style and sizes including, one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom townhomes that range size, from 1,750 sq. ft. to 3,100 sq. ft. The village will also boast recreational amenities, including a multipurpose room, a pool, and a Wellness Center for residents to enjoy. Construction for the project will start in 2022 and will be completed in 2024.

MG Developer, led by Alirio Torrealba, is the City’s most active residential developer having completed its newest project, Althea Row, which nearly sold out in less than 90 days. MG will soon wrap up its Biltmore Square community, as it completes Biltmore Row, the 10 exclusive townhomes featuring a total of 5,561 square feet each, with elaborate coralina-stoned entryways that trace back to the heritage of classical design elements found in Spanish colonial architecture.

Headed by Alirio Torrealba, MG Developer is changing Coral Gables for the better one townhome at a time. MG is the mind behind the upscale “Biltmore Square” neighborhood in the Gables, which is comprised of four developments: Biltmore Parc, Beatrice Row, Biltmore Row, and Althea Row.

Most recently, MG Developer partnered with home staging company Artefacto to put together a model apartment at their latest development - Althea Row. A mix of Mediterranean architecture with modernist finishes, Althea Row is a combination of the past and the present, creating a unique residence in the heart of the Gables.

“It's been different working with MG Developer on this,” says Pietro Bacchi, Third Generation of the Bacchi family who founded Artefacto. “And it was nice to see someone stray away from the white box/modern cube and go into the traditional Mediterranean. It was amazing for us because we got to showcase products that we usually wouldn't with finishes that aren't necessarily commercial, but they are beautiful. MG really did an amazing job finishing this as a home instead of a spec for sale.”

Located at 739 Almeria Avenue, Althea Row’s exclusive set of five townhouses is designed by Coral Gables-based De La Guardia Victoria Architects & Urbanists. Having recently opened its European-inspired model unit to much fanfare, Althea Row is inspired by George Merrick and original Gables architects H.George Fink, Phineas Paist, and Richard Kiehnel. The 3-story townhouses include four bedrooms, four bathrooms with one-half bath, a four-car garage, a private elevator, and private terraces with crafted loggias that bring the best of outdoor Gables living. Featuring 7,000 square feet of exceptional modern living, Althea Row starts at $3.8 million and has already sold its model unit.

“We’re thrilled to have introduced Althea Row to Coral Gables, a high-end community for those who appreciate the finest details of luxury living and lush surroundings of the City Beautiful,” said MG Developer CEO Alirio Torrealba. “Our goal is to always bring a sophisticated product that exceeds expectations while also complementing the aesthetic of the local community. It’s simply part of the fabric at MG Developer and a standard that we hold high.”

MG Developer is “building the city beautiful” and enhancing the Coral Gables neighborhoods with their luxurious residences. In all of their projects, they pursue a ceaseless quest for quality, value, and intelligent design which is reflected in the beauty of the Althea Row Residences.

As a member of the Coral Gables community, MG Developer is committed to the beautification of the city and supports its Art in Public Places program, recently commissioning an original stone sculpture at Balboa Plaza called “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The firm is an advocate of public exhibitions throughout Coral Gables that enhance the area’s unique lifestyle and design and is also a proponent of philanthropic efforts and organizations that elevate the city’s standard of living, including the Coral Gables Community Foundation and FundaHigado.

Althea Row, designed by Coral Gables-based De La Guardia Victoria Architects & Urbanists, indulges the senses with European-inspired luxury and craftsmanship. Inspired by George Merrick and original Gables architects H.George Fink, Phineas Paist, and Richard Kiehnel, the 3-story townhomes include four bedrooms, four bathrooms with one-half bath, a four-car garage, private elevator, and private terraces with crafted loggias that bring the best of outdoor Gables living.

Take a look around Coral Gables and you’ll start to understand what the city’s lifestyle truly entails. Whether it’s classic and contemporary architecture that stands out in the city’s Business District or its verdant parks that invite guests for a day out, Coral Gables is meticulously designed to encapsulate a distinct lifestyle that lives up to its nickname, the City Beautiful. To reflect this appeal and the city’s aesthetic allure, a new project that’s bringing that charm inside and out is MG Developer’s newly built Althea Row at Biltmore Square.

Althea Row interior

Opening soon in the city’s brand-new Biltmore Square community off Anderson Road and Valencia Avenue, Althea Row evokes a new standard of luxury residential living in the City Beautiful that is unmatched in its architectural designs and interior finishes. Offering an exclusive set of five residences that are close enough to Downtown Coral Gables’ renowned amenities yet tucked away near the Granada Golf Course and the city’s tree canopies, Althea Row – named after the mother of Coral Gables founder George Merrick – is a product of the original design and vision for the City Beautiful that honors its past while shaping its future.

Althea Row is more than just a beautiful living space that includes three floors with a private elevator and 4 car garage. Each 4-bed and 4.5-bath residence makes it unique and functional with an array of high-end finishes. A practical layout starting with a beautiful front garden, a coralina porch, balconies and an expansive terrace flow from an elegant kitchen in the heart of your home. Transitioning to the outdoors from its luxurious dining area, the majestic loggia set along the home’s terrace allows you to enjoy Coral Gables’ tropical weather, placing you in a relaxing and secluded retreat.

Built with sophisticated stone coral architecture, brown clay barrel roof tile, a cast aluminum balustrade in a dark walnut finish and exterior copper lanterns that greet residents with the warmest of welcomes, Althea Row’s elements derive from the distinct Spanish colonial architecture designed by the award-winning Maria de la Guardia. Drawing upon traditional and streamlined classical, regional and contemporary influences to reflect authentic details and proportions, each residence brings a sophisticated sense of place for the 21st century.

Taking it beyond anything else offered in Coral Gables, Althea Row is only a few minutes away from the celebrated Gables Waterway, originally navigated by George Merrick. This, and other recreational amenities abound near Althea Row, such as the elegant Biltmore Hotel and its 23,000-square-foot swimming pool along with its 18-hole championship golf course designed by Donald Ross. Also, just a short distance is the historic Venetian Pool, designed with a Mediterranean Revival style and serving as the largest freshwater pool in the United States.

Whether out on the town or at home, Althea Row’s dynamic location and thoughtful design easily complement the city’s appeal and a lifestyle that modern urban dwellers look for in a home. With so much to offer, Althea Row truly raises the standard in classic Gables living.

If you go to Coral Gables, you’ll notice a distinct change in atmosphere in every corner of the revered city. The tree-lined boulevards, carefully crafted buildings in and around the busy downtown section and lush, green spaces combine to make one of the most pleasant communities in South Florida. But Coral Gables also has a different side when the sun goes down, transforming places like Merrick Park and its historic Miracle Mile with shops and restaurants into a bustling corridor with sparkling lights that bring residents together. Even with this glowing avenue that remains one of the most popular places to be, Coral Gables needed an extra bit of magic to really showcase its charm.

As a sponsor of Illuminate Coral Gables, MG Developer is honored to help elevate the city’s culture and history while setting it apart from any other place else in South Florida.

Illuminate Coral Gables (ICG), one of South Florida’s most transformative public art initiatives with gleaming art, is that bit of magic. Operating under the Coral Gables Community Foundation and supported by MG Developer, ICG takes the intentional use of light and technology to transform public art by day into inspiring works at night. Curated by Lance Fung with Catherine Cathers, Jennifer Easton and Rosie Gordon-Wallace, ICG is created for specific outdoor locations throughout Coral Gables, adding an element of intrigue and sophistication that residents can enjoy during an evening stroll or meeting with friends and family for a night out.

“Coral Gables has always had something different that makes it one of the most dynamic and interesting places to live, work and play,” says MG Developer CEO Alirio Torrealba. “We’re here to build beautiful residences that complement the city’s design, but we’re also here to create world-class communities and support local businesses that make this The City Beautiful. The people are what make this community, and it’s our pleasure and honor to be a part of this initiative that elevates the city’s culture and history while setting it apart from any other place else in South Florida.”

On display from February 12 to March 14, ICG brings eight fantastic projects including video projections, sculpture and art installations by a stellar group of 15 local, national and international artists including Kiki Smith and Cai Guo-Qiang.

Smith’s project, Blue Night, brings 42 suspended mirrored renderings of animal constellations from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres over Giralda Plaza, a pedestrian-centric shopping corridor with unforgettable restaurants and music performances. Reflecting light through transparent blue backgrounds and holographic vinyl that denotes the stars comprising each constellation, the piece has an Augmented Reality (AR) component that enables viewers to see ghosted constellation images and asterism on their devices throughout the day and night, offering a unique conversation piece before or after dining at Giralda’s fine restaurants.

Cai Guo-Qiang’s Fireflies, making its debut in South Florida, is an interactive and mesmerizing public artwork with lighted pedicabs that roam through the city’s downtown, adding color and joy with handmade Chinese silk lanterns. Based out of Giralda Plaza and Miracle Mile, guests can enjoy riding through a mobile work of art and seeing Coral Gables from a new perspective, taking in its classic architecture, modern boutiques, and effortless lifestyle.

With an extensive variety of functional art in and around the city’s business district, Coral Gables is having a shining moment in culture and community, inviting everyone to visit and make their home in what continues to be the City Beautiful.

Biltmore Square is the vision for Coral Gables living in a new era of luxury real estate.

In 2015 a new developer to Coral Gables broke ground on his first luxury project, Biltmore Parc. In 2017, it announced that one of the first of a number of their Coral Gables-based developments, the townhouse community on Valencia Avenue was 100 percent sold out. In December of 2020, MG Developer, a company founded by Alirio Torrealba, began building its 8th property in the city and despite the pandemic, MG’s mission for the City Beautiful never wavered.
During these changing times, the company has been diligently working at finalizing its master-planned community -- Biltmore Square, a modern addition to the classic charm of Coral Gables, which will be completed in 2022. “Our new townhome residences in Coral Gables’ Biltmore Square enclave are the perfect place for newcomers to settle in and enjoy warm weather, ample indoor and outdoor space, all while being in proximity to the city’s core of luxury lifestyle amenities,” says Alirio Torrealba, CEO and Founder of MG Developer.
Ron Shuffield, President and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services (BHHS) EWM Realty, the highly-respected realty company now leading sales and marketing for MG’s Althea Row and Biltmore Row, said, “MG Developer has done remarkable things and is an integral part of the Coral Gables community. These residences present a unique opportunity to enjoy living in walking distance to the Giralda Plaza, Miracle Mile, Riviera Country Club, and The Biltmore Hotel.

All of MG’s contemporary enclaves offer their own unique charm and distinct design elements. In Coral Gables, MG developed Valencia Townhomes, The Ponce, Villa Blanc, and the first phase of Biltmore Square, which includes Biltmore Parc and the award-winning Beatrice Row residences.
