Developed by CL Investment Group in partnership with Hill West Architects and Tamarkin Co., 555 West End Avenue was once the home of the Beaux Arts Catholic School. Today, it plays host to 13 one-of-a-kind residences on the Upper West Side. One of the residences dubbed the Terrace Penthouse is worth a jaw-dropping $22.5M.

Providing the feeling of an expansive private home, the Terrace Penthouse is perfect for buyers looking to upgrade to more space in New York City. The spectacular home features over 2,200 square feet of interior space and 2,800 square feet of private outdoor space, with ample space for outdoor dining, entertaining and relaxation, as well as picturesque views of the Hudson River and city skyline. The full-floor roof terrace is accessed via a striking outdoor staircase leading from the wraparound terrace—a beautiful connection between the two impressive spaces.

Ensuring privacy, the penthouse is accessed through direct elevator entry. The incredibly spacious home, one of only 13 in the intimate, boutique development, overlooks a quiet, tree- and brownstone-lined street on the coveted Upper West Side.

Ideal for both privacy and entertaining, the penthouse’s interior living areas are spread across two full floors connected by an elegant floating staircase. The kitchen, living and great rooms are situated on the second level, while the bedroom suites, den and laundry occupy the private lower level.

The home’s expansive great room, complete with a double-sided, marble-wrapped gas fireplace, opens onto a wraparound terrace with elegant steel-framed French doors that offer a spectacular view of the building’s signature landmarked turrets.

Elegant finishes designed by Tamarkin Co. illustrate the attention to detail present throughout the development. The penthouse’s voluminous chef’s kitchen features a spacious butler’s pantry and is adorned with solid white oak cabinetry handcrafted by Christopher Peacock and complete with Nanz hardware, honed Pietra Cardosa stone floors, polished Arabescato marble slab countertops and backsplashes, and top-of-the-line Wolf, Sub-Zero and Miele appliances.

The elegant master bath features original arched windows, hand-selected Calacatta Gold marble slabs, custom white oak vanities by Christopher Peacock and Lefroy Brooks fixtures.

Located in the heart of the coveted Upper West Side, 555 West End Avenue offers residents access to world-class dining and cultural attractions as well as the peaceful respite of a quiet, tree-lined street.

The boutique condominium is moments from two of the City’s most desirable green spaces, Riverside Park and Central Park, and places residents in close proximity to the Henry Hudson Parkway, creating an easy getaway to upstate New York and Connecticut. An established and exclusive neighborhood, the surrounding area is home to some of the city’s most prestigious secondary schools, in addition to Columbia University and Fordham University, and directly across town from the Upper East Side’s most acclaimed schools.

With its combination of original architectural details and spacious floorplans that feel like private homes, 555 West End Avenue has become one of New York City’s most sought-after residential addresses. There are only five homes remaining and the development is available for immediate occupancy.

Who doesn't love soaring ceiling heights and large windows? We certainly do. In fact, some of the most jaw-dropping homes we've seen have been transformed from recreational spaces to high-end design homes. The benefit of using unconventional structures are the quirky and unique interior details, which are often highlighted by designers to become the focal point of the home. Here are six gymnasiums turned exceptional residences around the world that have us in awe.

The Gym Loft

Courtesy The Gym Loft

In Amsterdam, another gym from 1908 was transformed into a breathtaking home. Dutch architecture firm Eklund Terbeek transformed a 100-year-old school gymnasium into a spacious loft-style apartment for a family of four in Rotterdam North. The 2,690-square-foot Gym Loft sports a minimalistic design that focuses on space, light, and movement and emphasizes the soaring 16-foot ceilings.

555 West End Avenue

Courtesy 555 West End Avenue

Nestled in the heart of Manhattan's Upper West Side neighborhood, 555 West End Avenue offers 13 breathtaking, one-of-a-kind residences with unmatched architectural magnificence from the building's origin as a historic private school. Born from the school's former rooftop gymnasium, the stunning Solarium Penthouse features a jaw-dropping great room with a soaring barrel-vaulted ceiling that rises 20 feet, a massive skylight and a floor-to-ceiling wall of windows that opens onto a private south-facing terrace. Spanning 3,420 square feet with three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, the Solarium Penthouse pairs the volume of a Downtown loft with the elegance of a classic Uptown residence.

240 Centre Street

Courtesy 240 Centre Street

Back in New York City, 240 Centre Street in Little Italy features a stunning 6,600-square-foot, a four-bedroom apartment that was previously a gym at the former New York Police headquarters. The space was originally converted into an apartment in 1988 but was recently relisted for $12.7 million.

Gymnasium House in Lepoutre-Molière

Courtesy Gymnasium House in Lepoutre-Molière

In Brussels, Belgium, a gymnasium built in the early 1920s was converted into a four-bedroom, four-bathroom house. Double-height ceilings stretching to more than 26 feet create a show-stopping living space, and the original beams and trusses have been left exposed to preserve the original history and character of the space.

213 West 23rd Street

Courtesy 213 West 23rd Street

A 7,000-square-foot, four-bedroom home at 213 West 23rd Street in Chelsea, New York City, is the former YMCA McBurney branch gymnasium. Designed by Annabelle Selldorf and Jeffrey Beers, the converted space features a central glass-enclosed walnut staircase, 29-foot ceilings and an abundance of natural light.

Feel that? Summer is just around the corner, but before we can revel in lazy days oceanside in the Hamptons, we bask in the lukewarm rays of spring. Here at Haute Living, we like to do our basking from the top, and in Manhattan, there is no shortage of rooftop terraces to take advantage of. Here are four sky-high outdoor terraces to help you welcome spring.
