When choosing to look to the professionals in home design, Natalia Neverko, Founder and Principal Designer of Natalia Neverko Design, Inc. says it's important to know exactly what you want and need. Natalia Neverko Design is a high-end full-service architectural interior and interior design company that tailors each home design to the clients’ personality and specific needs.

Home Improvement

With regards to interior design, and exactly how our interior space makes us interact within the space, it’s important to consider the materials, colors and light. Many of these factors can be carried out on a budget or they could be done expensively – it’s important to comprehend how much you are prepared to devote to your home design. Most of us start with the fundamentals we are in need of then choose to include on, collecting occasionally, before our interior design is regarded as “complete.” It’s important to involve some type of budget which means that your bills are something your household can live with.

Budget Estimation

Your interior design budget will be greatly influenced by how big the room is (or size of space), the kind of furniture and furnishings you intend to purchase and your desired timeline. Your individual style will also affect the budget.

Even in situations where you want to take on most of the inside design yourself, seeing an interior designer can be a wise investment. When you will be adding up-front costs, learning from an accredited professional will probably limit problems for you later. Many interior designers are appointed not to only furnish the space but make interior changes. For example, you might want additional electric powered work done for lamps or want to change the entrances and exits of an area. Interior designers can draft plans and retain the services of subcontractors to complete the task. Before you get started assembling your project, consider the next factors which may are likely involved in your home design budget.

The expenses of an interior design job can vary widely with regards to the scope of the project. Having specific ideas at heart before starting is key for avoiding overruns. Any ambiguity may become a potential way to obtain higher costs down the road. Do some homework beforehand and be honest with yourself in what you want and need for the room. Within your contract, you can a layout of most plans detailed right down to drawings of your desired designs.

Compromises

Keeping yourself within budget sometimes means reducing on certain things. Top-of-the-line materials not only carry a higher materials cost but they could have an increased shipping fee, much longer lead time and perhaps a higher installation cost. If your budget is small, you’ll want to see all the expenses associated with your preferred materials or home furniture before you purchase.

Roche Bobois, a Paris-based fine contemporary furniture retailer, will debut its newest collaboration with world-renowned Portuguese artist, Joana Vasconcelos at this year’s Art Basel in Miami. Roche Bobois has showrooms in both the Miami Design District, Aventura and Coral Gables along with 255 showrooms worldwide. As an avid Roche Bobois consumer and enthusiast, herself, Joana's house is outfitted in iconic pieces such as the MAH JONG sofa and AVA chairs.

The works will be auctioned off following the exhibition and the proceeds will be donated to the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation, whose mission is to support those who make art their life’s journey.

"Everyday life is my main source of inspiration. My works are conceived from elements, from everyday materials. As a woman and Portuguese, the know-how and materials specific to my culture are essential: the azulejos that dress both the interiors and exteriors of our buildings or the crocheted doilies that are present in all Portuguese interiors, which cover sofas, tables, or televisions. For me, this collection in collaboration with Roche Bobois represents the perfect alliance between Art, Design and Life," Joana Vasconcelos, said about the collection.

Artist Joana Vasconcelos lives and works in Lisbon and has exhibited regularly since the mid-1990s. Her work became known internationally after her participation in the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005, with the work A Noiva [The Bride] (2001-05). She was the first woman and the youngest artist to exhibit at the Palace of Versailles, in 2012. Recent highlights of her career include a solo exhibition at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the project Trafaria Praia, for the Pavilion of Portugal at the 55th Venice Biennale; the participation in the group exhibition The World Belongs to You at the Palazzo Grassi/François Pinault Foundation, Venice (2011); and her first retrospective, held at the Museu Coleção Berardo, Lisbon (2010).

The sheer splendor of internationally acclaimed residential tower, Jade Signature, is evident from all vantage points of its Atlantic Oceanside setting. Crafted by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron, the Sunny Isles Beach condominium has become an iconic coastal landmark, revered for its slender façade and lush, oasis-like landscaping -- complete with a towering kapok tree at its center.

Yet beyond its distinctive exterior, Jade Signature’s inner offerings -- featuring the artistry of Parisian interior design firm PYR, led by Pierre Yves-Rochon -- are equally as compelling. The tower, which is the vision of lauded developer Fortune International Group, is replete with top-of-the-line features and services, rivaling those of a five-star resort.

Upon entry through the porte-cochère and sprawling, light-filled lobby, Jade Signature’s common areas connect directly to the beach at ground level -- a nod to the designs of Miami’s historic oceanfront hotels that began drawing visitors to the area in the early 20th century. Outside, a stunning deck overlooking the pristine, sugary-sand beach has an organic, zero entry free-form swimming pool -- adjacent to secluded cabanas, a heated spa, and 25-meter lap pool. These offerings are flanked by the Jade Signature Beach Bar & Grill – a gourmet restaurant (private for residents and their guests), which boasts a seasonal farm-to-table menu, as well as sweeping water views. Furthering the tower’s litany of conveniences, residents have access to private beach amenities, including chaise lounges, umbrellas, and towel and beach services.

Jade Signature also has a full-service, full-floor spa by natural beauty trailblazer Tata Harper – the first of its kind for Harper in the State of Florida. Featuring her eponymous, award-winning line of 100% natural products, the venue, also exclusive to residents and their guests, is complete with a sauna, steam room, hammam, relaxation zone, and treatment rooms.

Linly Designs began in 2002 in the suburbs of Chicago, offering elite home renovation & design services. After continued expansion, the design firm now houses over 11,000 sq. ft. of luxury furniture and home décor and offers design services such as kitchen & bathroom remodeling, custom window treatments, and decorative finishing. After repeated requests from their high-end clients seeking their expertise on unique, thoughtful, and beautiful customer appreciation gifts, Linly designs created Bonnâge.com, a luxury online shopping experience providing carefully curated bespoke and corporate gifts in beautiful packaging. Haute Residence caught up with Linly Designs to discuss how Bonnâge came about and the need it is filling amongst its clients.

How did you conceive the idea for Bonnâge?

The idea of creating a website offering luxury gifts in beautiful packaging seemed like a natural progression for Linly Designs. Our design firm provides elite design services and luxury home furnishings to a discerning clientele, many of whom are business professionals. And because of our reputation and keen eye for procuring beautiful home décor and accessories, our team had started receiving requests from current and former clients looking for unique and thoughtful customer appreciation gifts for their businesses. Thus, Bonnâge.com was born.

What need do you feel this service is filling?

We had recognized a lack of options in the gifting industry for luxury, professional, and memorable gifts. Sure, there are websites offering candy, nuts, chocolates, flowers, etc. but our goal with Bonnâge.com was to offer objects that would make a lasting impression, rather than perishable goods that are gone in a matter of days. Because our design firm has built and established relationships with manufacturers of all over the world, we knew that these beautiful and functional items were the pieces we wished to include in our housewarming gifts, corporate gifts, and thank you gift options.

What feedback have you received from clients about why they love and use your website?

Our customer service is unparalleled and everything is individually handled. From the packing of the boxes to the hand-written thank you cards and hand-crafted bows, it’s all done with care by our Bonnâge team. We recently had a client call to expedite his order as the gifts were for his wedding party, and the rehearsal dinner was in three days. We pulled his order, carefully packed all of the gifts, and we drove to our local UPS distribution center to ensure that he would get them the following day. This is the level of service that clients have come to expect from Linly Designs, and what we are so proud to offer with Bonnâge.com as well.

Is there something you’d like to see added to Bonnâge in the future?

We are excited to be constantly evolving. We have added a personalized Concierge service to assist in gift selections and customizing options. Should clients want a special item sourced or personalized, our Concierge can make this happen. Our team travels extensively sourcing amazing luxury options and bringing exclusive pieces to our clients. Our ever-changing gift selections are sure to wow every time.

Do you have a favorite feature of Bonnâge?

Our gift packaging! The gifts we offer are luxurious in and of themselves, but the premier packaging takes these pieces to a whole new level. We understand the value of presentation and wanted each gift recipient to feel appreciated before even opening the box! Plus, our team has developed a proprietary shipping technique that preserves the look of our hand-tied bows during transit. So the way the boxes are presented on our website are just the way they will arrive to your recipient, unlike gifts from other companies that arrive with a flattened or crushed bow.

What goals do you have for the next 5 years?

We hope to continue building our lavish gifting options, finding the best-quality craftsmanship combined with luxe presentation. We will continue to maintain our boutique approach to preserve and enhance our superlative client service and excellent reputation.

Editor's Note: Gina Holz Designs, Inc. is a full-service interior design firm that specializes in custom homes from the ground up. The company was established in 2011 to create luxurious spaces for the modern clientele. Haute Design sits down with Gina Holz Design, Inc. who gives us an in-depth look at their interior design process.

How does the building process change when a developer brings on an interior designer during the initial stages?

There are many advantages to hiring an interior designer at the initial stages of any project. Firstly, I believe that every member of the team should be on the same page, from the onset of a project. There are a lot of moving parts in construction and design and it is paramount that everybody has access to all of the information. This is a multi-year process and each member of the team is equally important. We need to work together to create an overall vision and a rhythm that is carried out until the end. The sooner the team can get organized and create a working relationship the better the outcome will be. This way everyone can hear the goals of the client and can work together collectively, to bring that vision to life from beginning to the end.

My job as a designer is to collect information from the client about how they want the home to function and feel. We go room by room and discuss what their needs are for each area. At that point the architect creates an architectural plan, laying out every inch of the property both inside and out. I would say the most important part of my job is what happens next. I take the architectural plans and I create a furniture plan for each room. Once the furniture is drawn in, we can assess what changes need to be made to the floor plan. Sometimes windows need to be moved, bathrooms need to be relocated and spaces need to be enlarged to accommodate the furnishings. When I walk my clients through each space and discuss which pieces will go where, they can really see themselves living there. At times, they discover that they need to completely relocate a room or a space based on their lifestyle. All of the changes are made on paper and discussed with the architect and builder before submitting anything to the city for permits. Doing a furniture plan is the only way to know if the room will function the way they desire.

It’s a real shame when someone hires me after the home is framed and drywalled. They may want me to make a room brighter, more open or to accommodate a certain piece of furniture and it’s just not possible without reinventing the wheel. I have my hand in all aspects of the building. I not only pick out all of the finishes and layouts but I give input on the architectural elements as well. We not only help select what kind of windows are in the space but how big they should be and where they are in relation to the room. The architecture is a crucial element of the home and their job is to make sure everything works from an exterior perspective. My main focus is to make sure that everything also makes sense on the interior.

What’s your favorite design element to incorporate into a brand new place?

One of my favorite elements to design is cabinetry. The cabinetry serves a major function in the home for storage and working spaces. However, I feel that the style, layout and details of the cabinets are what drives the vibe of the home. I like to play with colors, texture, style and also the scale of the cabinets. There is a certain artistry that is involved with the design of them and doing it right can take a house from ordinary to extraordinary. There are so many components to be factored into this equation. There are wood choices, cabinet hardware, countertops and lighting that all need to speak to the architecture, the furniture and the feel of the home. Creating the right balance of materials and finishes can completely elevate a space and the feeling it brings. This is where I can really push my clients out of their comfort zone and do something a little fresh and a little different. It can a simple nuance that really sets their house apart from every other home they have seen.

How involved should a designer be during the building process?

Every designer is different. I like to be involved every step of the way. What may seem like a small decision is often a huge part of the overall aesthetic. People are paying us to execute a vision and to select all of the little details that go along with it. Anyone who has built a home can tell you that changes arise in the middle of construction, no matter how good the plans are. I want to be involved in the solution, no matter how early in the process it is. I am also heavily involved in the background selections. This is everything from windows and doors, to flooring, materials, layout, lighting, cabinetry and everything in between. On some of my bigger projects we have weekly job site meetings with the contractor, architect and client. Every week there are many decisions to be made and approvals that are required to keep on schedule. There are a million details in a house that lots of people are executing. Small mistakes can fall through the cracks and add up to big mistakes. Sometimes my eye catches something that others may not notice. Since my job is to bring forward the final vision, I am looking at things from a different perspective than a sub reading plans or a contractor who has more responsibilities than anyone can comprehend. It’s so much easier to fix these things early on. Once the house is near complete, mistakes are easier to spot and harder to fix. It could be a wall sconces off by a half an inch. The next thing you know we’re ripping off drywall, moving electrical and patching and painting. The construction is actually my favorite part of the building process. I love watching a space come together. I treat it like it’s my own home and I want to make sure that everyone’s questions are answered and that I am available when needed.

Does the layout of floorplans change if a designer is able to work with the developer in making the space more usable?

I have worked with a number of developers. The ones who hired me at the beginning were grateful for the input and changes to the floor plan. The ones who did not, regretted it. Designers don’t just make things look pretty. We make sure that form follows function and the space makes sense. It’s imperative that we discuss with the developer who they are trying to sell this property to and who their clientele likely is. I also want to know how much they want to sell the house for. This way I can select appropriate finishes and make sure we have the right size rooms and the right amount of rooms for that price point and demographic. It is my job to bring my knowledge of space planning and design to the table and get my client the most bang for their buck. It is also my goal to get them excited about what we are building and create a space that they could see themselves living in. This process is stressful and there are a lot of moving parts but with a good team, it should also be a lot of fun.

Architect Frank Lloyd Wright left a trace of greatness all over the world, especially the United States. But one of his most personal residences—his own home at The Plaza Hotel (which he did not design)—was recently listed for $39.5 million. His 4,000-square-foot corner suite at 1 Central Park South boasts 13-foot ceilings, four bedrooms, three-and-a-half marble bathrooms, a modern chef’s kitchen, and perfect views of Central Park.

Wright lived in Apt. 409 from 1954 to 1959 while overseeing the construction of the iconic Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum on Fifth Avenue. He died in 1959, and the Plaza condo was one of his last official residences (if not his last). The famous apartment was featured in Architectural Digest last November.

Wright’s former condo was "gut renovated" by Louis Lisboa of VL Architects, and interior designer Susanna Maggard in 2011. The master bedroom size was reduced in favor of expanding the living and dining room space on both ends to enhance light and views (also aided by large windows).

With all important rooms facing Central Park, the collaboration also created three additional bedrooms (one doubles as a den and another is wheel chair accessible with private entry). The apartment also offers reduced rates to La Palestra's Spa and Gym, The Palm Court, and the Food Court—all Plaza amenities. Corcoran Group’s Marie-Claire Gladstone has the listing.

The architect was most famous for his organic architecture philosophy which involved designing structures in harmony with the environment. This included Prairie-style houses (extended low buildings with sloping roofs, overhangs, suppressed chimneys and terraces crafted of unfinished materials) as well as Usonian Houses (dwellings that were designed on concrete slabs with flat roofs and no basements or attics). He also incorporated Japanese art influences into his designs.

Wright’s organic architecture philosophy was best exemplified by Fallingwater, the National Historic Landmark residence near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania which is built partly over a waterfall in the Laurel Highlands of the Allegheny Mountains. Fallingwater was voted by the American Institute of Architects as the “best all-time work of American architecture” in 1991. The AIA also honored Lloyd-Wright as the greatest American architect of all-time.

Some of Wright’s other notable designs includes the Frederick C. Robie House and the Johnson Wax Building which were also honored by the AIA. Wright’s designs are perfect expressions of their era while timeless and impressive enough to stand out and attract positive attention in modern times. Now a new Plaza resident can see the world—or at least Central Park—as he saw it.
