Anyone who has ever been apartment hunting in Manhattan knows that it can be a long, drawn-out, grueling experience, and it was no different for "X-Files" and "Californication" star David Duchovny, who finally settled on a $6.25-million Upper West Side apartment after months of searching.

There's a catch though: before Duchovny can get his hands on the house keys, he'll need to pass The Ardsley's board, which rejected Mariah Carey in 1999 when she tried to buy Barbara Streisand's penthouse.

But even though Duchovny may have to charm his way into the co-op board, we're sure the three-bedroom, three-bathroom corner apartment featuring a private elevator, wood-burning fireplace, and terrace with sweeping views of Central Park is more than worth it.

Louis Vuitton collaborated with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama to create a collection of garments featuring Kusama's signature polka dot patterns for a concept store at the Selfridges department store in London.

Kusama is obsessed with polka dots—literally. The painter, poet and artist has even lived in a psychiatric institution since 1977 to help battle her obsession with the design, usually associated with a fun, quirky mood.

Louis Vuitton began to create materials, bags and shoes covered in bright red, yellow and black polka dots following its sponsorship of Kusama's Tate exhibition earlier this year when the designer inspired the brand with her repetitive designs—something the designers at Louis Vuitton are all too familiar with.

Fittingly, the concept store is also immersed in polka dots—just like the pieces it houses, including a plastic trench coat that makes the wearer appear as though he or she is painted in spots, one of Kusama's earlier ideas.

The concept store will remain open until Oct. 1.

The Nancy, France home of French designer Jean Prouvé is the highlight of the “Tribute to Jean Prouvé," which runs through Oct. 28.

The home, now known as Maison Jean Prouvé, is a model of rationalist ingenuity. It sits on a plot of land on the northern outskirts of Nancy on a wooded hill, which was purchased for relatively cheap because the hill was considered too steep to build on.

The long, skinny, single story home was made predominately from prefabricated compenents from Prouvé's factory, which he had just lost control of in 1952. With the help of his children, the home was completed in 1954.

It peeps out behind trees and features tiny bedrooms that resemble ship cabins. The living room's glass wall gives panoramic views of Nancy.

The house now belongs to the City of Nancy, which rents it out to an architect and his family on the condition that visitors may pass through at certain times. It offers valuable insight to the life of one of the 20th century's most influential designers.

The tribute to Prouvé includes the opening of permanent galleries devoted to Prouvé’s work at the Musée des beaux-arts and Musée de l’Histoire du Fer, an exhibition of his ironwork at Musée de l’École de Nancy, an analysis of his impact on the city during and after World War II at Musée Lorrain and the installation of one of the prefabricated Maisons Tropicales he designed for use in Africa at Musée des beaux-arts.

Prouvé practically had creativity running through his veins, born to an artist father an pianist mother. By the 1930s, his workshop was manufacturing furniture and architectural compenents for schools, factories and other buildings, and during World War II, he developed a barrack unit that could be assembled in three hours under German occupation. He later joined the French resistance and was appointed mayor of Nancy after the war before returning to manufacturing.

Almost every individual who owns a fridge has done it: stood in front of an ajar refrigerator door while indecisiveness causes us to waste an unfathomable amount of energy, and cool air billows out while we figure out what it is we want to eat.

Well, Chinese designer Changhong's creation has made it so that snacking procrastination doesn't have to be so wasteful. The S.Home Refrigerator is a full-size fridge that becomes transparent as you approach it.

From afar, the doors appear to be opaque, but the contents of the fridge can be seen from a closer proximity, allowing you to choose your food without opening the door. According to the Home Energy Magazine, the act of leaving the refrigerator door accounts for a whopping 7 percent of household electricity use per year.

There is no word yet on when Changhong plans to distribute the S.Home Refrigerator internationally and how much it'll cost people to save energy.

For those not afraid to hide their food (or tend to have extremely organized refrigerators), glass see-through alternatives exist, like the True T-49G, which features double pane thermal glass doors.

Designers out of Venice, Calif. have created the ultimate piece of novelty furniture for the most enthusiastic of gamers: a coffee table that looks like the original Nintendo controller—and it actually works.

To use the table as a controller, the user simply removes the glass on top of the table and connects a retractable cord from underneath to the console.

Bohemian Work Bench is the first to come out with such a creation. A do-it-yourself designer from Australian built a table with a similar concept, but the table comes complete with storage box for games underneath.

The original price of the table was $1,950, but the new design featuring maple, mahogany and walnut woods will run $3,700 at the group's Etsy store.

How is this possible, you ask? The Oxfordshire-based designer added a a dynamic twist to his deceptively understated furniture dubbed 'Linger a Little Longer.'

The furniture maintains evidence of any kind of human contact in the form of a watermark when the thermochronic finish responds to body heat or decorative dining accessories placed on it.

It's a new concept for furniture design, and one that won't go unnoticed.

Almost every aspect of the house is made of glass—from the stairs to the dining table. The bed, thankfully, isn't.

One of these three-bedroom babies would cost about $625,000 to build, and it's not all that practical. There's little privacy and no toilets, and it looks pretty chilly out there to have to use an outhouse multiple times a day.

At least the design is pretty.

Leslie Sacks, a name synonymous with fine art, opened his first gallery in 1981 in Johannesburg, South Africa and followed it with an opening in the Los Angeles Brentwood neighborhood in 1992. Sacks' gallery is now an important venue in America, specializing in fine prints by contemporary American and European artists.

In addition to unique works on paper, the gallery also features sculpture, painting, impressionist and expressionist work, a selection of illustrated artists' books, and a vetted collection of African tribal art.

Worldwide supplier of luxury window decor Coulisse has presented a collection of roller blind fabrics ranging from plain fabrics with a real textile look to delicate micro designs and expressive nature prints, helping to reinvent and refresh the often overlooked and underdressed window.

The Nature Print Collection brings fauna and flora into the home with organic prints inspired by Mother Nature, offering several unique prints in a range of hues taken from nature. This line works for roller blinds and is available in a width of 200 centimeters.

The Micro Fashion roller blind collection draws inspiration from the exclusive woven fabrics of Como, Italy, a city famed for its variety of exquisite textiles. The micro-theme relates to its fashion industry counterpart, in which clothing is decorated with small, repetitive designs. The collection is suitable for roller blinds as well, and 89 and 127-millimeter vertical blinds.

Coulisse also released three new collections in the plain fabric category: Rio, Fernando and Natal, which are all characterized by a real textile look. Think linen prints, woven structures and unique styles. The collection offers 10 colors and transparent as well as black0out options.

Coulisse opened its first showroom in the United States in Miami. The luxury brand now has a showroom in Mexico and 29 locations in Brazil.

Musician, actor and clothing designer Justin Timberlake is now adding another title to his already impressive resume: home decor designer.

Timberlake announced that he designed and curated a collection of home goods and art in collaboration with his longtime interior designer and friend Estee Stanley. He's quoted as saying that without her inspiration, he wouldn't have had the idea for the project.

Timberlake's collection has been available exclusively at HomeMint.com since May. He and Stanley drew inspiration from Europe, Los Angeles and Paris for their pieces. The pair also admitted that they prefer antiques to contemporary pieces, which is evident in the style of the collection.

For a look of the complete collection, check out the HomeMint Web site.

The Clean Bedroom, the organic mattress and bedroom furniture retailer that insists its customers deserve a healthier night's sleep, is now offering some amazing products exclusive to the brand.

The Tribeca Bed is a reflection of the namesake neighborhood. Designed by The Clean Bedroom, the bed frame features a stainless steel headboard and a low-profile slat foundation.

The Sierra Bed is an eco-friendly gem. It's made with wood reclaimed from century-old warehouses doomed to be demolished. Customers can see the density and strength of the bed by the growth rings on the grain of the wood. The natural sheen and color of the timber is preserved in the manufacturing process, giving the bed a look that would have been impossible to create with new wood.

Oyasumi in Japanese means "good night," which should be indicative of the sleep customers will get on the Oyasumi Natural Latex Organic Mattress. The mattress is customizable and moderately priced, making it a top seller in all of The Clean Bedroom showrooms. Each side of the bed can be customized to medium or firm latex cores, and the outer cover features an organic cotton stretch knit fabric that contours to your body.

House Beautiful's annual Kitchen of the Year award was unveiled mid-month, and its display miraculously stood in Rockefeller Center for days despite temperatures rising to more than 95 degrees in Manhattan.

Chicago-based designer Mick De Giulio, who designed the space meant for indoor and outdoor use, said, "Kitchens can get very complicated. I wanted to keep this simple and classic. It's also a little bit glamorous."

A butler's pantry with a Venetian-plastered cove ceiling makes us think Giulio is being modest when he says this kitchen is just a little bit glam. The 1,000-square-foot kitchen also features polished-nickel pendants, a Jonathan Adler for Kohler-designed navy sink and bold cabinet knobs. The space is unique with its custom oak table and mismatched chairs.

Thomas utilized the creative expertise of the Maya Romanoff workshop as well as elements of nature and fine art as inspiration for the collection.

Thomas translated his vision to an industrial scale while managing to mantain the artisanal and hand-crafted quality the Maya Romanoff brand is known for.

The design house, located at 8900 Beverly Blvd., aims to represent the lavish Los Angeles lifestyle with a state-of-the-art showroom experience.

It's no coincidence that Christopher Guy chose to not only open its new store during Britweek 2012, but the posh furniture brand also announced the winner and runner-up of the second annual Christopher Guy-BritWeek Design Award. The prestigious award went to Karolina Kurek from the Otis Parsons School of Design, and second place was a tie between Rana Desar of UCLA and Patrice Yagen of the Academy of Art.

The competition challenged students to design a furnishing or decorative accent based on the creations of haute couture hat designer Phillip Treacy.
