Pop singer Katy Perry is demonstrating her admiration for California by purchasing multiple Hollywood Hills homes totaling $11.2 million.

Perry recently purchased two properties on three adjoining lots in the Hollywood Hills area of Los Angeles. According to The Huffington Post, Perry purchased the land, which “tops the acreage scales at about four” lots, from oil heiress Aileen Getty.

Of the two homes, the smaller mid-century modern residence was once owned by Conan O’Brien band leader Max Weinberg and Jake Gyllenhall’s parents. The Huffington Post also reports that her manager Bernie Gudvi is listed as the trustee on the properties, and is also on at least one other property she owns in Los Feliz.

According to Zillow, property records show that Weinberg’s former 2,916-square-foot home was purchased for $3 million and features five bedrooms, three bathrooms, an open floor plan, floor-to-ceiling windows, outdoor living spaces, high-end appliances in the kitchen and new bath features.

Popular daytime TV judge Judy Sheindlin and her husband Jerry purchased a condo in the Montage Beverly Hills hotel and condo complex, according to Real Estalker. Property records indicate that Sheindlin paid $10.7 million for an upper floor private apartment featuring five bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, seven small balconies, four exposures, and four dedicated parking spots in the building’s underground garage.

Real Estalker reports that floor plans, which would likely be similar to what Sheindlin may have, show a long, L-shaped foyer and gallery, a coat closet, powder room, small library, formal dining room, well-equipped kitchen with center island, walk-in pantry, walk-in wine cellar, a 42-plus-foot long living room, a fireplace, and city and/or mountain views. There is also a living room that opens to a bedroom (or den), a bedroom wing with two bedrooms on opposite sides of a corridor, a laundry room, and a master suite with walk-in closets, a spacious bedroom and private balcony. For visitors, there is a guest suite behind the kitchen with a small balcony, large walk-in closet and bathroom.

Building amenities include concierges, spa and fitness facilities, roof-top swimming pool, room service, laundry, housekeeping, tight security, a lobby and lounge area, and Scarpetta restaurant in the hotel section of the building.

In the first quarter of 2013, the average price of luxury homes in Los Angeles County rose 7.1% compared to the first quarter of 2013.

A new study by the First Republic Prestige Home Index by First Republic Bank indicates that the average price of a high-end home in Los Angeles for the first quarter of 2013 was $2.1 million, which is 1.9% higher than the average price in the final three months of 2012. The Beverly Hills Courier reports that Billy Rose of The Agency in Beverly Hills said, “the first quarter of this year was on fire.”

Los Angeles average luxury home price of $2.1 million compares to $2.8 million in San Francisco and $1.7 million in San Diego, and it is the highest it has been in almost four years.

President and COO of First Republic Bank told The Beverly Hills Courier, “Limited inventory exists in many areas, and buyer demand is accelerating for properties in the most desirable neighborhoods. Many homes have received multiple offers and are selling over the asking prices.”

Rose indicates that these results are a consequence of a “real confidence in the economy, foreign buyers and wealthy people who no longer want to hold off buying homes.” An observed lack of inventory has created what appears to be a “true competition in the market.”

The study looked at homes in many high-end areas of Los Angeles, including Beverly Hills, Calabasas, Malibu, North Hollywood, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Bel Air, Westwood, Brentwood and more.

Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner has just purchased a $4.995 million home for his 27-year-old wife, Crystal Harris. The nearly 6,000-square-foot modern estate features four bedrooms and five bathrooms.

Overlooking the Los Angeles skyline and just minutes from the Sunset Strip, Harris’ new home was built in 2011 and includes smart technology, according to Redfin. The property also has a theater room, game room, infinity pool and spa, a floating butcher-block wooden staircase, stone walls, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass floors, multiple terraces, and much more.

The home was previously owned by video game director, comic book creator and Internet company founder Jason Rubin, who bought the land in 2004 for $710,000. Hefner and Harris are said to primarily reside at the Playboy mansion, however Harris now also has a place she can call her own.

According to the Redfin blog, Grammer has unloaded one of his many homes, though he still has three homes he shares ownership with ex-wife Camille Grammer. The Beverly Hills home that he just sold was one he purchased in April 2012 with new wife Kayte Walsh for $6.5 million. The Spanish Colonial-style home includes “wood-beamed ceilings, arched windows and Spanish tile.” Within the 6,000 square feet of living space, there are fived bedrooms and 6.5 baths. Grammar reportedly attempted to rent the home out for $30,000 per month, but recently found a buyer willing to pay $6.7 million.

Grammer currently has a Malibu home on the market for $14.9 million and a property in Beaver Creek, Colorado for $6.9 million.

Fashion icon Donatella Versace has teamed up with Los Angeles furniture designers Nikolai and Simon Haas of Haas Brothers to collaborated on a range of furniture pieces for Salone del Mobile in Milan.

The Haas Brothers are L.A.-based twins known for their design collaborations with Peter Marino and Mario Testino. Now set to work with Versace, the Haas Brothers will create a 12-piece homage to Donatella’s style, according to The New York Times.

Style.com indicates that the collection will include primarily black and gold colors and features “a club chair graced with Versace’s iconic Medusa head and a Bondage bench generously wrapped in straps.”

Donatella Versace told Vogue, “As soon as I met the Haas Brothers, I knew I wanted them to work on a special project for me. They have such energy and their ideas were so brave and bold, I couldn’t wait to see what they would do with the DNA of Versace. I am thrilled with the results and these new iconic pieces for Versace.”

Built in 1989, the circular U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles features approximately 1.4 million square feet of space spread over 72 floors with six floors of underground parking, according to a statement released by OUE. Bloomberg reports that OUE’s recent acquisition of the building is a way of expanding their business beyond Singapore.

Stephen Riady, OUE Executive Chairman said, “U.S. Bank Tower is a well-positioned building that we expect to appeal to a broad base of both local and international office tenants operating in California.”

The U.S. Bank Tower is one of the best-known office buildings in the country. Designed by the New York firm of architect I.M. Pei, the landmark was previously owned by MPG Office Trust Inc., who declined to discuss the sale, according to The Los Angeles Times. MPG is estimated to bring in a profit of approximately $103 million from the sale.

Buyer OUE develops and operates commercial properties in Southeast Asia, such as hotels, condominiums and offices.

The soaring tower, which is currently 56 percent occupied, has been featured in numerous television shows and movies, including the 1996 film ‘Independence Day.’

An unidentified Russian billionaire couple has just purchased what may go on the books for being the most expensive home purchase in 2013; a Malibu mansion that cost $75 million. Sold by investment manager Howard Marks and his wife Nancy, the home features more than 300 feet of beach frontage.

According to LA Curbed, the Markses have just sold their nine and a half acre Malibu estate to a wealthy Russian couple for $75 million, after “quietly shopping it around for $125 million” without every formally listing it.

The Wall Street Journal notes that it is “one of the largest pieces of oceanfront property in Malibu” and it includes a 15,000-square-foot main house with eight bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, two guesthouses, a tennis court, a pool and a separate building with a gym.

It is currently the second most expensive home sale in Southern California, according to brokers, following the $85 million sale of Candy Spelling’s manor to British heiress Petra Ecclestone. It also ranks as the third most expensive home sale in all of California, following the Spelling mansion and Yuri Milner’s $100 million purchase of a Los Altos Hills home in 2011.
