Melanie Haselmayr: Home staging transforms an empty space into a welcoming home. It tremendously changes the first impression of a home. Great staging and the right photography will get you more views and attention online. During a showing or Open House, staging allows buyers to sink into the lifestyle we designed - they don't just walk room after room, but they can experience living in the home, and create an emotional connection with it.

HR: How do you ensure the home is properly staged in order to help sell it quicker? 

MH: Everything we do is based on one fundamental question: who is going to live here? What is their lifestyle like? How can we elevate the best features of the home and make it stand out among others?

HR: What is your method and process when staging a home?

MH: It's quite simple! We provide a bespoke proposal to every client; once approved our client can sit back and relax. We do everything necessary behind the scenes - space planning, design concept, furniture procurement and site coordination. Finally, we schedule 2-3 installation days, before the grand reveal.

This project was a total gut renovation of a 1970s-era two-bedroom condominium to meet the needs of a young bachelor, with balcony terraces and floorplan revised to create an integrated and open space for entertaining. Ample storage, an open layout, and abundant natural light melded with a masculine, geometric, and "uncluttered" style. The black and white color palette and natural wood accents added warmth, with natural stone coverings on main surfaces accentuating key architectural features to capture sleek, sensitive elegance laced with edgy, contemporary craftsmanship.

We worked to design a space suitable for entertaining, with plenty of seating, room for gathering and movement, and an inviting, modern aesthetic. Spacious storage structures comprising clean lines and natural materials fulfilled the client’s “uncluttered” vision while serving as a stately, eye-catching canvas for gentle reflections of natural light. At the client’s request, we improved the quality of artificial light in the space while simultaneously taking advantage of the natural light already existent in the structure.

Attention to detail and craftsmanship was key: high-quality materials imbued the space with compelling yet minimal palettes of texture and color, while also remaining within the client’s budget constraints. The result was a refined, welcoming, and – above all – functional design that transformed an outdated structure into a contemporary, desirable kitchen space.

This project has received the 2017 AIA Miami Merit Award for Interior Architecture, the Gold Medal for Best Kitchen Under $100,000 in the 2017 KBDN Kitchen & Bath Design Awards, Third Place Powder Room in the 2019 NKBA Professional Design Competition, and winner of the 2019 IIDA Bragg Award for Residential – Single-Family Project. The project has also been named a Finalist in the 2019 Wolf-SubZero Kitchen Design Contest and has been selected by notable design industry educator Ellen Cheever as a teaching tool for an interior designer education course (CEU approved by IDCEC, NKBA, NARI and AIA) to train the next generation of design professionals.

Haute Residence: Why are these two elements such an important part of your design work?

Joe Human: Color and pattern are my two favorite design elements to play with. The kid inside of me that wants to portray spaces in a fun and artistic way, yet the adult side of me desires them to be sophisticated as well.  Also, growing up in Idaho, there was a lot of beautiful nature, the term “God’s Country” is a great description of the wonderful landscape, with its colors, textures, and patterns. Yet, the residential design seemed so lackluster and unimaginative with plain beige and brown everywhere you looked. I really wanted to have my aesthetic break away from that and have fun with design. That is why we start our own firms right, to fill that gap!

HR: What advice would you give to people who want to use large patterns successfully in their homes?

HR: How important is it to ensure that the color palettes within a certain space are well balanced and harmonious? 

JH: The most important idea to remember is that colors don’t necessarily have to be matchy-matchy to be harmonious. Furthermore, non-neutral colors can be harmonious. I did a project, nicknamed the 'Fun House' here in Manhattan; there are so many different elements at play including antiques, pop art, patterns of many scales and bright colors. But the use of metals and woods brought that balance and harmony that was needed to make a cohesive and comfortable space.  Having a space with all these elements takes a lot of trial and error and a unique eye for editing to mix all these different elements together. When done right, the outcome will look easy. But when done improperly, a space can feel contrived and incongruous.

Kohanaiki is one of the first private residential clubs to debut an onsite brewery and beer tasting room, run by Brew Master Garratt Fitts. He started as a homebrewer and so impressed members and club management with samples of his beer that they designed a fully-licensed, high-tech brewing facility with 120-gallon tanks within community’s new clubhouse that enables Fitts to brew his own creations on a much larger scale.

He currently offers three flagships and four seasonal brews as well as some tasty kombucha. The most popular brew is the Blond Ale, favored for its light, crisp and dry flavor profile. Seasonal brews include a Witbier in the Spring, an IPA in the Summer, a Kabocha Pumpkin Oktoberfest in the Fall and a Gingersnap Ale in the Winter.

Fitts, who is also a certified sommelier, offers tours of the brewery and tastings to Kohanaiki members and their guests.

The brewery is just one of the many amenities at Kohanaiki’s 67,000-square-foot clubhouse situated in the heart of this 450-acre Kona Coast community. These developments coincide with a recent surge of domestic investment at the tower. American buyers purchased 32 units valued at $50 million in 2018, up from 18 units valued at $23 million in 2017. Since the project’s inception in 2014, U.S. buyers have accounted for $290 million in total sales – making the U.S. the building’s top feeder market by a wide margin. 

“The enhanced purchasing power that comes with a strong U.S. dollar, the tax advantages of Florida residency, and Downtown Miami’s growing appeal as an urban, cosmopolitan district are all contributing to an influx of domestic buyer activity at Brickell Flatiron,” says Vanessa Grout, president of CMC Real Estate.

But for over a century or so, there has also been the practice, often exercised by a single person, of designing and making furniture that obeys other criteria and has other aims, i.e. the description of a fantastic world, the desire of a thinker to express himself with a design, and then the actual construction of allegories, of ‘physicalism’ diagrams of thought.

Some architects do this because they have discovered that the creation of a piece of furniture can aid them in working out an architectural plan as well as illustrate many things: their time, their existence, their love, desires and wishes. When one considers architecture, on whatever scale, when the models are prepared in reduced size, the checks are often uncertain…

In furniture, the design exercise is less frustrating: one can use drawings or models, but (and furniture is unique in this in the world of design) the models must be life-size, not reduced, and the materials used have to be the actual ones planned! It means working on the project and not being bogged down on a silly 1:100 scale (if you’re lucky). 

This was a great discovery for those in my generation, like Archizoom, Ufo, Superstudio, and of course myself. Being faced by the full-size results of your design phase, in the actual materials, and in just a short space of time (compared to the years that architectural plans require, and when the building is finally completed, you have already moved on, you are after), producing the design, tackling it, and seeing it face to face is a thrilling experience. This is permitted to visual artists like actors and set designers, but to architects no. Thus, the production of furniture becomes an important aspect of the architect’s externalization of self and the organization of spaces. And seeing that you are right at the start, your own vision of the world flows into these allegories. The item of furniture becomes a vehicle or a tool that allows you to externalize and face up to yourself, it becomes a place of dreams, the fantastic and the visionary. All this is accompanied by writings, drawings, models, prototypes and paraphernalia.

Someone is responsible for all this. Who was it that began to bring back to the design process from the traditional architecture menu the ingredients that had been expelled from it during the 1930s? Right after the Second World War, Ettore Sottsass began to follow an entirely independent route in the world of design in which, in his hands, the functionalist experience seemed to lose strength and be replaced by materials, color and ornamentation. These are the spices that were removed from the menu when, in the 1920s, at the risk of bulimia, architecture decided to slim down and limit itself to the simplified diet of pure geometry. Ettore understood that for him such a diet would risk anorexia, so he slowly brought back to his own table materials, color and ornamentation to re-establish a balance. 

He did so in his production of furniture, glassworks and ceramics, often at his own expense and often ‘…impossible to produce, impossible to transport, impossible to make them pay…’. Andrea, Lapo, myself, Cristiano, Adolfo and then Alessandro, Gaetano and Riccardo* understood by examining his works that, yes, design was not just the mirror of a rational world but could describe so many other things, ourselves, desires, the love of love, emotions, irony and the crossing of barriers. The design had to tell a story and describe ourselves. That’s a hell of a task. It was stirring, radical stuff. Global Tools, Alchimia, Memphis: one after another these were where my first students went, and then those of Adolfo, like Michele (De Lucchi), and then those of Buti, like Giovannoni and Venturini and today Mannino.

For years, students and young graduates flocked from Florence to Milan, and of those who were seduced by this climate, Sergio remains the one who interprets this world in the most orthodox manner. In his university thesis he was already searching out Ettore, and with him learned to design small, marvelous houses halfway between nature and spatial organizations that were simple, intense and well-balanced. His furniture also had the desire to capture alphabets and thoughts, so as to describe and use them to make statements through their construction, defining consistency colors transparency.

In my opinion, Ettore’s best pieces are produced when he lets himself go, and his subject matter faces you square on, almost two-dimensional, with the almost mechanical addition of depth. His designs make the statement about the possibility of existence, alone, in a room.

Sergio understood the lesson and these works of his describe the routes he has taken within himself and within us.

Bedrooms are sanctuaries of rest. They are places we retreat to in good times as well as stressful moments so their environment needs to accommodate the wide spectrum of these moods. Each bedroom is different for each client but all of the choices you make in this particular space can only serve to heighten the experience. In the end, a bedroom is perhaps the most versatile room in the house serving every need a homeowner has…including a leisurely breakfast!

I always start a bedroom choosing the color scheme and then creating a palette of tones and textures to start the visual of the space. For instance, let’s start with color for the perimeter, the walls. The decision to choose wallpaper or paint for these vertical surfaces is the first step and there are reasons for each: wallpaper adds texture, warmth and detail while paint can add mood with the subtlety of tone. We can additionally accent the trim and ceiling by using a paint color/finish that compliments. Or maybe contrasts? Your choice!

Now we have our “canvas” where we start to add wool/silk/linen draperies and trim that soften the “box” and also add a layer of insulation for sound. Putting these fabric panels on a bronze metal rod and rings with crystal ball finials serves to accent the great contrast between these soft and hard materials. It is one of many creative options to be offered and of course, the client is the arbiter on decision. Perhaps they will want a soft fabric cornice with inverted corner pleats to add additional softness to the hard glass of the windows…a personal choice and a subject of discussion, always! Or perhaps, they LOVE the view in front of them and want nothing to take away from the moment…solar shades electronically disappearing and hidden when not needed!

Carpets are the next selection. A wool and silk monochromatic combination continue to add softness but there are so many other choices that may be more colorful or patterned. This carpet discussion centers on whether the rug disappears as part of the total design or is the feature of the space. Each client is different and their priorities and what they “see” in the room eventually rule the design. If they want an area rug, it usually needs to be a soft material so when getting into and out of bed, it is comfortable underfoot. In fact, some clients prefer a wall-to-wall plush cut pile carpet for the lush softness and deep pile that it presents. This feels like the ultimate royalty and is usually pretty affordable!

When furniture enters into the discussion, the wood and style choices are dependent on the interior look we have determined; paint grade, stain grade or even distressed looks are appropriate and can be used with flair in these spaces. Interior Designer Hint: I NEVER make every piece of furniture “match.” In fact, I like to use upholstered headboards, wooden nightstands and a dresser or bureau in mixed but complementary stains or finishes…so much more interesting! My linens will come at the end of the project and blend with the walls and trim when I will already feel the calm and romance in this room.

Perhaps you thought I forgot lighting! NEVER! One of my passions is creative and unique lighting and sometimes I design my own to fit the space. In today’s market, a lot of homes/apartments have only tiny recessed lights which I like. But given the opportunity to light the room with something more intimate to bring the ceiling down, I select a chandelier to reflect the beauty of the space. And then I choose lamps which have a contrasting material to add to the complexity of the bedroom…crystal? Murano glass? Ceramic/ Porcelain? Wood? Metal? So many, many choices! Can you envision a vintage glass chandelier delicately dropping from the ceiling with 2 Murano glass lamps on the nightstands, and an accent chair and ottoman completing the furnishings of my bedroom? I certainly can…..

The final finishing touches are the most important Accessorizing is the most necessary requirement of every room and a bedroom is no exception! From artwork to a bench at the end of the bed, books under the nightstands, throw and accent pillows, picture frames, clocks, flowers, phones and vessels, living with your special collectibles help to make this wonderful space so personal and meaningful.

Haute Residence: What's your day-to-day like? 

Nelson De La Nuez: I'm out in the countryside on the outskirts of Los Angeles. I've got to be in a place of total seclusion so that I can avoid distractions. The kind of life I live is -- I come home and/or I wake up and go to my studio. It's my sanctuary. I can easily spend 14 hours there. It's my go-to place to stay away from the rest of the world and focus on my work.

HR: What's your creative process like when curating a new work of art? 

NDLN: It really starts with an idea. The idea is the basis of everything. It always starts with an idea that you need to keep molding until it is great and you are certain it will resonate with the viewer. You structure the artwork around the idea you've built out and planned. When I first started out I always wanted to be an artist but I had no clue on how to get started. I took my work to the masses to see what would perform well with the crowd. You can create whatever you want to create and you may think it's the best thing in the world [the art]  but it's only when you show it that you'll be able to see if people are willing to pay for your work or not.

HR: How do you continue to evolve as an artist? 

NDLN: It's a constant process of chasing your own tail. You're always trying to get better at what you do. It's really about perfecting your craft. If you love what you do, then it is no longer considered work. Art is a way to express yourself. My art speaks to a lot of those people in the luxury [high-end]  lifestyle. When they're looking to add more art to their home or office, they turn to me and my art to express themselves through the art I've created.

HR: How does your art speak to art enthusiasts and collectors? 

NDLN: Once you have your fourth home, a jet and yacht, the only thing left is art. My audience is the very high-end, wealthy and well-traveled individual that pretty much has it all and wants to either express themselves through buying a new Ferrari or plane or they invest in art as eye candy to put up in their house so that when people come by, it reflects a part of them.

HR: You have an impressive collector's list including celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Kelly Clarkson, can you tell us more? 

NDLN: I've been doing this for 30 years. I've sold to a lot of people in the entertainment industry, both in front of the camera and behind the camera. Kelly Clarkson is my latest collector and she actually stopped by my Los Angeles gallery for the most recent piece she acquired. When you're in LA, and you do what I do, word gets around and people begin to express interest in collecting your work.

In my challenging childhood where I often felt lonely or invisible, I discovered that I had the power to shape a ‘feeling’ for myself within my environment. I know this is very personal, but it is the truth. It is because of this very fact that I chose to become an interior designer. I can regulate the ‘feeling’ of someone’s space, I think that is amazing and exciting! I love the creative aspect and the solving of a plethora of problems, challenges………. whatever you want to call them!

Our lives today in this era of fast-moving technology takes us away from nature. Constant connection to our ‘smart devices’ even thwarts our personal connections with each other. Undoubtedly you have made note of people in a restaurant absorbed with checking their e-mail or even being distracted by social media instead of having a meaningful conversation with their friend or loved one. I do not think that we can ever replace a hike in any natural space with natural elements in interior design because let’s face it not everyone can hike or ski or play every single day! By being thoughtful and deliberate with my design work I can bring a little bit of nature to every project and influence someone else’s wellbeing.

There are many ways as interior designers we can accomplish this intention. Some ways are by utilizing natural stone tile, pebbles, reclaimed wood elements, plant walls, botanical-inspired fabrics and wallcoverings, natural stone lamps consisting of real quartz crystalline bases, stone veneers on walls and so on. The ideas to nurture with the nature-inspired design are endless! At the end of the day, the key is to approach the design with careful consideration for the end user’s health and wellbeing whether it is a residential, commercial or health care application.

What attracts buyers to oceanfront property?

Besides the lifestyle that it provides, it has always been very exclusive to own or rent oceanfront homes.

Why do you think oceanfront living never goes out of style?

Who doesn’t enjoy going to sleep and listening to the waves crashing as well as waking up to it and putting your bare feet in the nice warm sand? The fact that you can live right on [the beach] without needing to get into a car to go enjoy it means it will never go out of style.

Why do you think some buyers are attracted to vertical while others are looking for horizontal living?

Often times when people have multiple residences, they want things to be as easy as possible and not have to fuss with all the upkeep with a house. In a highrise, you just pay your monthly dues or your rent and really have nothing to worry about. It also allows you to have superior views as you can be significantly elevated higher than a two-story house on the beach.

What are the current trends in your market and how are you preparing for the 3rd and 4th quarter of the year?

The oceanfront market in Santa Monica is still hot. We had two of the biggest sales that we have ever seen this year and I just set a record as well for the sale of a condo that I owned at 101 Ocean. The biggest issue right now is a lack of good inventory and this is pretty common in a place like Santa Monica. I can’t tell you how many calls/emails I get a day from agents asking me if I know of anything good coming to the market and for massive price points.

What is special about 1221 Ocean Avenue?

Real estate is all about location and in my opinion 1221 is in one of the best locations in the United States. The building sits right on the edge of downtown Santa Monica and the Pacific ocean . You are surrounded by world-class dining, awesome bar & lounges like Elephante & The Bungalow, great shopping, movie theaters, bike paths, the beach, tons of yoga & fitness studios, and two times per week one of the best farmers markets in the country. Beyond the location, you have a building that would be like the equivalent of living at The Four Seasons packed with the best amenities of any building in the area and units which all feature insane views. To top it all off you have by far the best rooftop pool and lounge in the city and a building that feels very private and exclusive.

Dear John,

The boat was sailing around the island of Stromboli on a clear summer night. The Mediterranean sea was a flat surface of dark water that extended in front of my eyes like an infinite slab of thin black marble. I couldn’t see the end of it as it melted in a blurry line on the horizon with the sky over me. The sky was also a mysterious black veil patterned with billions of stars and galaxies whose fate, origin, meaning and mysteries we know close to nothing about.

So there I was, sailing in the silence of the night, trapped in between those two curtains, thinking if there will ever be a way to cut through them in order to get a glimpse of truth. And I can sail again in that same place every time I close my eyes and I remove all the buildings, objects, people, thoughts, anxieties, memories, fears, feelings, love or hate and I go deep into my soul or into void...

I remember the first time I saw one of your planks in a book. I was probably 22 or 23 years old and it felt like something out of this world, perfect, polished, extremely simple yet very complex, almost like that black slab of water at night. I immediately made one out of sheet metal and one out of frosted glass. It took me several days and countless models to define the right proportions and height (I had no idea about the real size of your planks). Both prototypes had a fluorescent light behind it but only the metal one was able to maintain its aura of mystery and its depth. I saw my plank as the connection between two worlds: body and mind, matter and spirit, the black Mediterranean sea and the dark sky above. Was it the same for you? Were you trying like me to scratch the surface of the black slabs in order to find some truths? Were you looking for new connections? New explanations? Maybe you wondered like me on the ocean hoping at some point to be able to stare at one temporary fragment of truth, perfectly lit, with eyes wide open.

HR: What sets Brickell Flatiron apart from other developments in the city?

UC: Since arriving in Miami, I have envisioned Brickell’s potential as a high-end residential neighborhood. Our development firm, CMC Group, began investing here in the early-1990s with Bristol Tower and Santa Maria – the first luxury towers to rise in this part of the city. We took a risk at the time, but we felt that this setting could be unique for its urban environment and proximity to the water. We believed that Brickell would be capable of luring premium buyers, provided that we delivered a premium product.

At the time, downtown Miami was not proven as an urban neighborhood. Our firm viewed Brickell and Downtown as a ‘blank canvas’ that would one day come to life as a vibrant residential and commercial district where streets were alive 24 hours a day. Today, those dreams are a reality. More than 150 towers have since risen as Miami’s urban core has become a mini-Manhattan. It was only a matter of time, given Miami’s land constraints and the trend toward urbanism. In the 25 years that have passed, the Brickell brand has become synonymous with luxury living, premium dining and retail, and international tourism and business.

HR: What was the developing process like and the inspiration behind the iconic project?

UC: CMC Group has always developed at our own pace, typically building only one or two developments at a time. Some firms race to build the most product in the shortest amount of time, but we believe there’s value in being deliberate when it comes to planning, designing, constructing and selling a project. This allows us to emphasize the highest degree of quality over speed and volume. If a project takes a little more time and money to construct, so be it. In the end, the finished product will be stronger and more valuable to the end user.

In terms of inspiration, I like to think a real estate development is a reflection of a moment in time. That has been the case with all of our projects, and I believe Brickell Flatiron is a reflection of Miami’s coming of age as a cosmopolitan city with a thriving downtown at its heart. The name echoes Manhattan’s famous Flatiron building – and the similarities go well beyond the shape. In Brickell, you can live without driving, you have public transportation across the street from your building, you can walk to 20 amazing restaurants in the neighborhood. The lifestyle is becoming very much like New York – except you can be at the beach in minutes!

The urban lifestyle is familiar to them, and they can purchase a top-line unit in Miami for far less than what it would cost in New York.

As far as what’s next for me, my main focus right now is putting the finishing touches on Brickell Flatiron. We’re looking forward to seeing it deliver and open to residents this summer.

HR: How do you seamlessly blend the worlds of fashion, architectural history, visual arts and films into your design aesthetic and renowned projects?

BN: Every project is a new story for me. When we are analyzing the brief from the client we spend a huge amount of time researching the world for inspiration that fits the unique narrative we’ve created for each client.  

My deep interest in fashion, architectural history, visual arts and films means I have a large mental library that I draw upon. For example, we designed an award show in New York which was inspired by both the architecture of an old railway station along with a Gucci collection where the patterns looked like intersecting train tracks. The set became the worlds most glamorous train station! 

I do love the constant creation of the fashion industry, the pressure of a number of collections a year means that the industry comes up with some brilliant new ideas which can be then furthered. As a design studio, we too are driven to be at the forefront of design innovation and craftsmanship, thus each of our projects is highly conceptualized with unique references to art, fashion, culture and of course, the client’s lifestyle. This proves to be a point of difference at Blainey North which our discerning clients appreciate.

HR: What can design aficionados expect from your newest furniture collection?

BN: You can expect something different and young. It all started when I was flying into Hong Kong one night and as we came into land the car headlights below blurred to form a continuous line streaming through the city. The image of light, movement and business encapsulated the feelings I have when I’m in a city. I love the city. Strangely it’s the place my body feels most comfortable, rather than in nature like most people. I’ve been interested in exploring why that is. This collection is about that exploration; it’s about showing the combination of the movement of people vs the repetitive mechanics of a city. It also has come about through the realization that much high-end city design has been focussed on evoking an image of somewhere else – the country or the beach for instance – rather than referencing the brilliantly exciting environments in which the vast majority of us live.

HR: What is your favorite piece in the Man & The Machine collection?

BN: I just adore the Strobe Coffee Table. It feels strangely like something you’ve seen before, like a bank vault or a piece of machinery and yet at the same time it presents as something unexpectedly new. This piece has the rigor of the mechanical repetition of the city tied together by a metal-trimmed leather strap. When you walk past the table your reflection in the mirrored stainless steel rods creating the top, reminds you of a whirling reflection of yourself driving through the city, thus I called it the Strobe. I also love it in the night as the light can shine both through the table to form a striped shadow on the floor and then onto the wall creating a dramatic fan like a shadow. The Strobe has for me, just the right level of perfection and expressive attention to detail which proves interesting to look at and talk about. A great characteristic for a coffee table.

HR: How would you describe the collection in three words?

BN: Timeless,  energetic, transcendent

HR: Walk us through some of your most renowned interior projects, how do you approach the different stages from creating a concept to executing the design?

BN: The start of any project in my office is a deep rigorous process of research and design.  As a team we brainstorm ideas, research the project and the clients brief, all of this resulting in a concept which is original and particular and the clients own. It’s from this idea we generate the look and feel of the project. We refer to each project in the office by its concept name. For example “Edge Mapping’ is an apartment interior we designed at the angled top of a tower in Sydney, formerly the space for the mechanical plant rooms. The concept was inspired by on the littoral zone of Sydney harbor, which is the area where the water and land touch. We accentuated an undulating edge throughout the apartment with a ribbon of black lacquered timber which connected all the volumes of this complex space, imagining the walls as landforms and the floor as the sea. The resulting design felt almost like the interior of a yacht and incidentally Won Best Residence over £40,000 at the International Design Awards in London.  

Another example would be the stores we have designed for Temperley London. After we analyzed Alice Temperley’s Design’s and her process we uncovered a fascinating geometry in the pattern making, this combined with the handmade characteristics of the garments led us to the work of Iranian Artist, Monir Sharoudy Farfamanian. Her work explored complex geometries made from mirrors which felt strangely like the Temperley clothes. It inspired us to design the stores with tiny inlays of mosaic mirror tiles like an exoskeleton to reflect the clothes. Emulating the process of Temperley’s creation. 

In the office, every project has its own concept name which we refer and its this idea that threads through the interior, architecture and furniture. It’s really that overarching vision, which I believe can create a space which is unique and holistic. In essence, the idea is a return to the 1800s where one creative direction steered the grand homes and palace designs.  

HR: What is the number one design tip you always give your clients?

BN: Enjoy the process, it’s such a luxury to be creating and having something designed and built just for you.  

HR: The 2019 design trend that all aficionados should be on the lookout for

BN: I think we are seeing a return to detail, and the unique rather than a consistent style. When I was in Paris a few months ago many of the new interiors are referencing the Art Nouveau period, which was a celebration of design and handmade craft. It's exciting for me to see the world embracing a more meticulous and imaginative design style as my work has always been aligned with these principles.
